Coming from an Arkansas fan, I must say that this was one of the classic college basketball games that won't be forgotten for future generations of sports followers! We once played Texas that season, and despite our defeat we fought really hard to the end and congratulated the future draft to the NBA, Kevin Durant, and even he is one of my favorite NBA players, though my #1 favorite is LeBron James, and my team is the Miami Heat!

1:32:09 The exact same play the Hawks ran against Memphis to force OT in the 2008 National Title game.
@stonecoldku10 жыл бұрын
Not exactly the same, because in this game Julian Wright put on a screen to free up Chalmers. In the Memphis game there was no screen, so either they changed the play because Texas was playing zone and Memphis was in Man to Man defense or the play they screwed up the play in the National Championship, but the result is the same. Either way Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
@RickiTickiRabbis10 жыл бұрын
stonecoldku Yeah you are right. Memphis was in man and Darnell Jackson, who was playing in Wright's old spot in 2008, was guarded by Dozier and he led Dozier deep into the paint to get him out of the way instead of screen a zone defender at the top of the arc. But ultimately, I was meaning it was the same play as in that it was the same weave Bill likes to run at the end of games and in 07 and 08 Sherron was on point and dishing the assist to Chalmers even though he wasn't the starting PG at the time (Russell Robinson). And of course as you said, Rock Chalk!
@derekmathews18188 жыл бұрын
It was not the exact same play, but it was absouletely similar though. Either way, it was the same shot, same person who hit the shot, it was overtime in both games, and the result was the same.

Sherron Collins had to keep fr getting fouled. Cuz I heard DRose was trying to foul Collins. Sherron was IMO #1 factor for KU coming back vs Memphis

This is why KU blows, their fans can't say anything without talking about theirselves! Get lost Poop dicks, Durant is better than any player Lawrence will ever have! You have 3 national titles, after being the founding school for basketball. Not that much to talk about, except that you're good at playing on your playground, with the tshirt squads squawking for you always!

To this day, I have absolutely no IDEA how teams just somehow magically fall apart in the second half when they've had a double digit lead on KU. Idk how Self does it, but it's absolutely infuriating to watch again and again if you're an opponent.

AJ Abrams had a sweet stroke, unfortunately he wasn't drafted, now if I were a general manager, I could use that beautiful stroke on my squad. He could be in the league, making millions, instead he took his game overseas, best of luck to you AJ stay gifted and blessed!

@@mattneal5257 Oh yea, I think his height, hindered him from getting drafted, they said, he was the teeniest player going into the draft back in 2010. Do you know, if he graduated with his degree? I'm glad he made his money overseas though.
@mattneal5257 Жыл бұрын
@@largec I don’t know if he graduated or not, but I was at this game and at the game @ Kansas a week earlier. Both were great games and it was fun seeing Abrams in person. And of course Durant. I had never seen a visiting player do what he did in the first half in Lawrence

Anytime I see highlights of this particular team, I remember that absolute stupid decision of Rick Barnes to tell LaMarcus Aldridge to go pro when he wanted to come back and play with Durant. It was the beginning of his downfall at UT. Two future bonafide NBA superstars on the same college team would have been a nightmare for the Big XII even KU.

@forgotaboutbre4 жыл бұрын
Historically this was soon before the game changed and wings became 10x more valuable than centers. At the time, the decision was a legitimate toss-up where Oden was seen as the safe choice. (I know, it boggles the mind these days)

Great game. Lots of fun to watch but did anybody else notice at the 1:11:11 mark that they gave KU 2 points after a charge on Chalmers? Never corrected it. Should have been down 5 when he hit the game tying 3
@johnpinto6971 Жыл бұрын
Yeah how did nobody notice that, especially either the players or refs? That can't happen. This game should have an asterisk lmao
@bluedog9935 Жыл бұрын
They counted the basket because the ref believed Chalmers released the ball before the charge. That’s the rule. It’s debatable whether he actually released the ball first but that’s a judgement call.

@4:55 too many counters. wright has too many moves for his own good. He needs to turn his head and locate the defender. He would have scored on the first over&back move. Then he could have hit a hook shot off the spin back. But he pump faked and pivoted again and ended up in a dead end. He had KD beat. He just needed to see/feel the defender better.
