Quick way to test this valve is to remove the hose that attaches to the intake and to remove the electrical connector. . Use a vacuum pump and attach it to the hose you just removed that leads into the valve. This valve is normally closed. . Apply vacuum. It should hold vacuum. if it doesn't then the valve is stuck open and you should replace it. If it does hold vacuum apply 12 volts to one of the pins at the connector and ground to the other. Doesnt matter which one since its just a simple solenoid. Once you apply the 12 volts and you have the valve holding vacuum, it should drop to zero. if it doesn't then the valve is stuck closed and you should replace it. To confirm its stuck closed tap on the valve to see if the tapping action will make it go open. Your vacumm should drop then confirming its bad and gets stuck closed.

With replacement the engine error code disappeared. The most difficult part was separating the hose for which I had to twist the hose with plier.

I have the “check fuel cap” light always blinking on my dash. If u replace the purge valve, this will go away? Also my odyssey burns alot of gas, I think it’s because of this

I could not tell you, but if it was me, I would try to find out what triggers the light first. In other words, how does that system work. Is the light triggered by a pressure sensor, or by a position sensor? if you can tell this, then you can think about what can be causing the condition and attempt a repair if appropriate. Hope this helps.

@@w.v.1833 You are right W.V. To add to yours, i had a similar situation. I change the fuel cap, then fuel sensor and then the Charcoal Canister but they didn't help. Lastly, i changed the charcoal canister purge valve which is next to the Charcoal Canister and the code stopped.

Very helpful video. What was the code that came up on diagnostic check? Mine says it's an evap "purge valve circuit malfunction" (p0443). I heard it can be a few things but im hoping it's just this. And would you say someone can fix this issue at home easily? Thank you

I am unable to recall the exact codes I was dealing with, but P0443 was definitely one of them. The way the engine light is triggered can be confusing for diagnosis. The system does not have a way to report mechanical failure. It only reports that something on an electrical circuit did not go as expected, and leaves the rest to the person to figure out why. So, yes, it could be a few things but in my opinion, the EVAP valve is the easiest step to start for the home mechanic: It only takes a few minutes to take out and check, and it is fairly inexpensive to replace. Before replacing the valve however, I would check for other easy things like fuse and connections. I hope this helps.

In a few words, there is no urgent symptom associated with this issue that I am aware of. The most annoying thing is the engine light in the dash board. However, I read that if the valve sticks open, it will result in a rich mixture for combustion (low fuel efficiency and other potential problems), and if the valve sticks closed, the gasses from the fuel tank will not pass to the engine which could result in some pressure build up in the tank and strong gas odor.
