I've always had a soft spot for Finlay. I was born 1995 and was first watching wrestling in around 2006-2008 (keep in mind that I'm from Germany and there was barely any way to get good wrestling and the commentators were horrible too). Finlay, along with Matt Hardy, always stuck out to me during that time. While I liked Matt Hardy for being cool, like the child that I was, Finlay had that subtle fascination on me that I didn't even realize at the time and now, looking back, I find myself thinking "This guy was good."

I was only 6 when Finlay first came out to this theme but as a proud Irishman, instilled in me from a very early age, when I heard this theme I knew shit was about to go down. The Belfast brawler, the epitome of the fighting Irish. Finlay laid the groundwork for the likes of Sheamus, Becky, Finn and JD, and Killian Dane to name a few, someone who us young Irish wrestling fans could look up to and say “us Irish from our wee island, if we can make it here, we can make it there and everywhere”, to now the younger generation of Irish wrestling fans saying “I could be the next Becky” or “I could walk in Sheamus’s shoes”, to even “Finn made a name for himself in Japan, I’ll try it there”. The door is so far wide open for young hungry Irish talent, and we have a stereotype of a love to fight as Finlay’s theme here so perfectly acknowledges in the intro. We love a fight, like McGregor took over the UFC for a period, like Katie Taylor still dominates the female boxing world, and as Becky became “Becky two belts” while Finn and Sheamus took any match thrown at them without question, the Irish are in the fight game for a long time, scripted or non scripted.
