Six years I put a TYC from Rock Auto in my 2007 XLT. A few months ago my cooler fitting started leaking. I watched this video so I logged onto my Rock Auto account and it listed the TYC with a life time warranty. I put in what my problem was and Rock Auto send me a brand new radiator free of charge. I took off the new double o-ring cooler fitting and replaced the one that was leaking. Worked like a champ. Thanks for your channel. I am a fan.

Your videos are not bad I've learned a thing or two about many of these newer Fords. One thing worth mentioning, in addition to what you addressed ,is over tightening of bolts fittings etc. threads naturally want to "stick" together especially pipe threads due to the pitch of the thread. When tightening any fastener snugging it up and then giving an eighth or a quarter turn will be more than enough to hold it properly. Keep up the good information.

Oh man... Those cooler line fittings are much better than the plastic ones that came with the Spectre Premium for the 02 Taurus. The original rad had those same fittings, but you'd figure it would be improved with aftermarket. The Spectre was a pretty stout rad and was very impressed with the quality of it. I ended up breaking one because I put the wrong bolt in the front and punched through the tank on the passenger side. Luckily, Autozone warrantied it and I got the second one in properly. That rad is still running well today! Thanks for the Spectre Premium recommendation. I feel better knowing I put that in my Wife's car.

A perfect example is my last radiator I paid 800 bucks for with all new hoses. The mechanic put in the stock pos with PLASTIC top and bottom. It lasted for only 8,000 miles! I’m replacing it myself with a all aluminum one that cost only 100 bucks more than the stock plastic one. My replacement will cost me about 260 bucks for a top of the line aftermarket radiator in apposed to a 800 plastic one.

Watched a very good video on repairing that, you can undo the crimps with a flathead, take the side tanks off, clean everything up, then just put some form a gasket on the gasket, put everything back on and redo the crimps with some pliers and its good as new, adds maybe a half hour to your repair time but saves you a few hundred dollars

Can just the trans cooler line fittings be changed within the Ford factory rad if the rad is ok other than the trans cooler lines leaking? ? I know you mentioned avoiding cross contamination but have to ask since the price difference between buying the fittings and buying the fittings + Radiator is $100 +. Excellent video! I love how you took the time to carefully explain the background info - keep up the great work!

The bad news for me is that I bought the Spectra Premium CU2816, and the Dorman 800-621 are slightly too big. I realized this after I got the first one in about half-way and it seems that I ended up rethreading that hole, but I decided to leave the one that came with it on the second one. That fitting does not fit the cooler line properly so now I have a problem.

Installed a spectra today on my 06 powerstroke. Then watched this video. Is there a way to actually quickly disconnect the quick connect fitting? I bought 3 different tools for this... ended up carefully cutting with die grinder on each side and breaking with screwdriver. Maybe "only" quick connect design and not "disconnect". When they start leaking I'll do the Dorman fittings. Learning new stuff from you all the time! You do great work! Thank you!

Looking for a new ac condenser and after comparing all the specs of the top rated feature brands the best seems to be the Spectra Premium It has the same mounts as the oem condenser and has the closest dimensions to the oem condenser so I dont get overpressurization on the low side I been checking out all the videos though and it seems they suck ass when it comes to shipping and handling so alot of times it gets damaged in the mail. Gonna give it a try though

Spectra Premium CU2952 will take the Dorman 800-621, whereas the Spectra Premium CU2816 which is also for the same vehicle and comes with the new fittings with plastic catches and only 1 O Ring, will not take the Dorman 800-621. Get the CU2952 for the Explorer Limited 4.6l 2006 as it will accept the double O Ring as in this video.

Thanks for all you do man. You're class A. I am thrilled you have had good luck with the spectra name. I've never heard of them. I have a 1985 Toyota pickup 2wd 2.4L 22r 2BL Carb. The only available aftermarket or oe I could find for an A/C condenser was Spectra premium number 7-3931. Everything else is I replaced is all Denso. I was hesitant to use spectra and I know you can't read the future but just hearing it from a tech whose opinion I trust makes me feel better.

I think my 08 Explorer 4.6L has the cooler in the bottom of the radiator and an auxiliary cooler in front of the AC condenser, at least from what I can tell, the way the front end is built its hard to see what is in there and where all the lines run to. Was it normal to have both transmission coolers in these, or was that an add-on? Just picked this Explorer up about 3 weeks ago, love it so far, 125k miles. Need to have spark plugs done and transmission drain/fill done ASAP. Just dreading spark plugs given the huge amount of horror stories with them. Seems very well maintained, but no record of plugs and transmission service so I want it done so I know its been done. Looks like 5w-20 engine oil is required according to the oil cap. Overall it seems this will be a pretty easy to service vehicle. I'll keep an eye out for leaks though in that radiator cooler, you aren't the only one I've heard mention the cooler leak issues. Kind of a dumb design IMO. I came from a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Selec-Trac 4WD, to the I guess Ford calls it Control Trac that has 4auto, high, and low range. The 4Auto in the Explorer is extremely quick to engage I've noticed, course the Selec-Trac in the Jeep was just full time 4WD so it was engaged all the time when you had it in 4 all time mode but the reaction time of the 4Auto in the Explorer is a very good replacement. Jeep decided to puke transmission fluid all over my carport last month, the front transmission seal had failed, after several other mechanical issues it was time for it to go so the 08 Explorer replaced my Jeep. Now I'm an all Ford guy again. 2008 Explorer Eddie Bauer, 1988 Ford Bronco 2 Eddie Bauer, and 1987 Ford Ranger 4x2 Custom with 7 foot bed. I stray away from Ford for a while and always seem to come back to Ford. Very happy with my Explorer, I do need to find a trailer hitch for it though, that Class 2 factory hitch isn't exactly enough LOL. I'll watch the pick a part yards for a hitch then order the trailer wiring harness kit.

All the shocks are shot and need to be replaced. The repairs are starting to mount up. 132k miles. Engine has stayed strong with regular oil changes. Of course I keep a close eye on the spark plugs. All the coils have been replaced after a few started to fail. Next up is a transmission drain and fill with filter replacement.

I have a 1996 ford ranger. They replaced the radiator because they said I had a transmission leak. the new radiator continues to leak at the metal connections on the inlet and outlet lines. I took it back. they said they fixed it. It continues to leak. Why cant Northside ford in san Antonio fix this problem. It seems just a metal thread connection. This shouldn't be a problem.

Is it ok to delete the inside radiator trans pipes since my f150 has a trans cooler ,it is easy to route them and since the 6r80 has a thermal bypass the trans is not getting heated by the radiator, is there really a need to run that fluid through the radiator, almost seems like ford made them all the same way then just added coolers to certain models but it was cheaper to just keep the design the same way. Might be a cool video because I see alot of people talking about it in the forums

Checking and filling trans fluid on these 6R60 transmissions is a royal PITA. Is there any way to fill the ATF coolant tank in the RAD before connecting the lines? 3. What was the idea behind raising the pressure? Increase boiling point? But why? Operating temperature is still relatively the same. Also, can you use regular old plumbers pipe dope for automotive threads? I notice that there is some special thread sealant available for automotive applications, although it seems very similar to pipe dope. Do you have an opinion?

70carlton Thanks. I just notice that the NAPA stuff says "teflon" or something like that. I stray away from using teflon tape in automotive applications. And you definitely do not want to use it on gas lines, normally code specifies against it because if it tears off it can get lodged in a gas valve. Household water only for teflon tape.

I just ordered radiator from summit racing a spectra premium, they say the CU1995 is made in China $214. It's for a 2002 E150. Ford says discontinued, but would you try a Motorcraft from RockAuto $350 for a 2014 E350 and change the trans cooler line connector to 3/8, if it comes with 1/2 inch? FYI, I ordered and returned an FVP $173 from RA and it arrived with a busted tank, the ribbing was flat rectangles, not like OEM as shown on website, I wasn't a fan of that item. R U considering a playlist of failed aftermarket parts?

@Fordtechmakuloco Spectra Premium package was really really beatup by the conveyor belts at UPS, the radiator packing done in China was good, but not good enough as an interior core channel was badly bent enough to return. Have you done any motorcraft radiators for vans lately, do they usually include 1/2 and 3/8 fittings in a bag with their radiators?

I think this fitting may be leaking on my 2010 expedition. Do you know if there is a similar problem or similar new fitting solution for mine? I'd like to try it before replacing the whole radiator. Thanks!

FordTechMakuloco, The Spectre radiator you have listed on the link is that for the 2006 Ford Explorer 4.0? You showed how to fix the trans coolant line leak using the doorman adapter fittings ok do you have a video on how to drain and fill the trans fluid for the 2006 Ford Explorer 4.0? My 06 Ford Explorer has those symptoms of the leaking at the trans oil line fittings and i like to replace them even more like to replace it with a new Spectre radiator with those new Doorman fittings even thou i had the radiator replaced once at my local Ford dealership several years ago but first i would like to know how you would go about filling the transmission with trans fluid when there is no fill plug on the transmission just a drain plug from the bottom of the pan which i don't understand why would Ford design it that way and no trans oil stick either?

@@rudsaki Well my question isn't for you and it was intended for FordTechMakuloco but i will tell you i took a risk and went ahead and purchased the radiator off of amazon anyway. They say that the listed radiator is for the Ford explorer 07-10 and was wandering what was so special that made the 06 explorer different from the 07-10. I found out from some source i can't remember where but they said that the 07-10 specter premium radiators core is a little thicker than the 2006 radiator. So i got the radiator put in my 2006 explorer with no problem. I even compared the new specter premium radiator with my old radiator side by side i can honestly tell you i didn't really see any difference between the two, they look identically the same to me.

Does anyone know if the 2952 rad will fit explorers before 8/7/06? I had to install a tyc2816 as that was all that was quickly available and now the cooler line is leaking.

Leave the radiator cap loose. Run the engine with heater on max heat with blower going. That will force coolant through entire system. Let run 10-15 minutes at idle.

whats the difference between the 2006 and 2007-2010 radiators? The Dorman 800-621 is listed for use in 2006 not 2007-2010. Will it work in my 2008 Mountaineer? Or is there something different about the trans fitting design?

If your trans fluid has coolant in it. The trans oil will look like a strawberry milkshake. No longer red, or brown dirty oil. But contaminated by water giving it a white pink look.

What did you do with your 2002? I have one also. I JB Welded a small leak and that worked fine but it leaks on a seam. I don't want to deal with patching it. I want to replace it. Ford wants $410.62 + tax for their radiator. I didn't ask who makes it. I'm also trying to figure out if I should replace the transcooler while I'm "in there".
