Did 2 tone rings today on my 06 explorer. Without this video, I would have never gotten them done, let alone both back rings in 1 day....Thank you so much for the information....

Helpful video, just did this on my 2006 Ford Explorer. Took me much longer than I hoped. Be prepared for the 3 screws on the inside of the wheel. They're extremely difficult to reach and basically cemented on. I spent 2-3 hours alone on those and even used an impact gun with a U-joint. I had to use a breaker bar on 2 of them at different points and put all of my strength into it a dozen times. Not sure I would do this again :)

But my traction control light and ABS are both gone - this was also giving me transmission problems with a really really rough shift that appear to be resolved.
@brianreed56863 жыл бұрын
Some times the ring will move to one side. I have done a couple that somehow shifted out of perfect alignment. Used a punch to gently put it back in alignment with the sensor and it was good to go. Some will even work when cracked. The crack let's it open and shift position so the sensor doesn't read the ring. Try to put it back in place and Use a dab of epoxy to hold in place. (For emergency repair only)

Thanks for the informative vids. The first "expert" I've seen who doesn't direct ABS problems to the rear end sensor (That never seems to solve the issue) I think my 2003 F150 might need this repair, but it looks like a different set-up. Internal ring maybe? Would the repair be similar? Thanks again.

I just want to Thank You your videos have helped save my family a lot of money they are step by step and extremely thorough. Question if you have the time , I recently purchased a 2007 expedition limited that had rear air ride. I just put in Arnott strut conversion and didn't get a chance to put the bypass switch in yet. But today a steady traction control light and abs came on. Can that occur because that bypass switch isn't installed yet,or could that be the tone ring and if so would it show up in freeze data on scan tool. Thanks again

thanks alot i got rsc now and truck wont start i did the front hubs they were old anyways, still wont start, this is all after son caught some air driving thru a roundabout at 50mph. so would the tone rings in the rear cause the car not to start?

Replacing the ABS Rear Center Speed Sensor on my 2005 Explorer with AdvTrac I was able to locate the bolt on top of the differential as described. However there is no connector and no sensor anywhere to be found. Instead the bolt seems to be holding some sort of plastic plug instead of the sensor. Is it possible there was a manufacturers modification eliminating the rear center ABS wheel sensor? Any feedback from subscribers also welcome. Thanks. Coach Mac

Great video, as always. Didn’t see one for an expedition. I have 07 Expy with a C1236 code (and both ABS and traction control lights on). Replaced the sensor, reset and it lights came back on? At low speeds the lights will go off but once I get moving they come back on. Could it be a tone ring issue too? It’s the driver side rear wheel. Thanks!! Joe

I’ve got a 2005 that used 2006 wheel hub assembly I’m replacing right now. I am getting the ABS LIGHT and feeling the advanced track go on and then off.. thusly throwing off the 4x4 high low and all.... so SAME ISSUES. Problem is I don’t have power going up a small incline and probably not towing... Question- when I replace the rear hub I hope to fix the issue... how hard is replacing the tone ring.. does it matter the year 2005-2006 for ring ?
@steviem52794 жыл бұрын
The 06 Escape/Mariner has a similar problem but with the tone rings on the front, what will end up happening is the 4x4 light will flash eight times and the ABS light comes on and most of the times its a cracked and loose tone ring. What I am wondering is when you replace it, it better to just replace the entire axle or just to tone ring is enough?

I have a 2010 ford e350. The dash screen will say service advanced traction control. And the swerve tires dummy light comes on. But then they both turn off. This doesn't happen ever day driving. But when lights turn on, they will do it many times in a row intermittently. Sometimes it seems like a loose wire just disconnecting and reconnecting, but then one time while cleaning van out, it did it..... So that's where I am.

Tony Lorenz The Ford tool number is from like 1978 just use a little heat and tap it on as shown in my other videos. An oven to heat the ring evenly is a good idea also.

It's pretty tight getting a socket in on the bolt head closest to the lower control arm and I'm guessing you would need to use an extension, thoughts?

Hi Brian, I am getting a similar problem with my 2005 explorer whoever I can not move the car and the 4X4 high keeps activating and the abs as well. it feels as though it is coming from the front because I hear a bit of a grinding noise. What could it be. Need your help thanks
@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
I would jack up the fronts and check the bearing to see if they are loose causing erratic abs signal. You can disable abs by pulling fuse 5 and 10 from engine fuse box and fuse 22 from the interior fuse box.

I removed the fuses and the truck is running normal what do you think? Is it the sensor or the tone ring. I did have the bearings change once before. Sorry for all the questions but you seem to want to help us every day guys. I can not thank you enough.
@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
An 05 was more common for the rear abs sensor in the diff but it sounds like yours has RSC and should have these tone rings on the rear anyway. Anyway like I showed in the video inspect the rear rings for cracks or looseness and you will need a scan tool to check for codes and most likely the tone ring pattern as shown in the video if not visually evident.

Need help! I have a 2010 Ford Explorer, that started to stall when I would make a right turn. Yesterday I was driving it and it and the truck just kept stalling like the abs or traction control kicked on. Weather condition was sunny with 70 degrees out. Once I pulled over the traction control light and the 4x4 came on. I turned both switches off and the truck continued to drive but with the stalling. I removed the abs and the 4x4 fuses and I was able to drive it home with no problem. I installed the fuses back and the issue started all over again. I checked the tone rings and they seem to be fine. Is there anything I should be checking. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it!!!

It turned out to b one of my wheel hubs. The way I checked it I lifted the front end and I grabbed the front wheel while it’s in the air top and bottom then tried shaking the tire. There was a little play on my driver’s side so I figured that was the bad one. I ordered both hubs with the abs sensor and I started with the one I thought was bad. Once I replaced it the problem went away, then I proceeded to change the other side. If ur truck is stuck somewhere with the issue I had. The way I got it home was by removing all of the abs fuses. All the lights on the dash came on but the truck drove home with no issue. Hope this helps, good luck and let me know if u have any other questions!
