Thank you so much!!! I have been putting this off for 2 years. Bought the parts but couldn’t find a good video. Everything looked hard so I didn’t think I would be able to do it in less than a week. Did this last night in a few hours. Only issues I had was the tensioner.

Thanks for that.. My wife took her civic into the dealer to do a recall on airbag sensor.. While she was there she had rhem look at her a/c as it isnt as cold as before.. They said she needed a new compressor and expansion valve. Parts and labor $1800.00 !!! So I'm be fixing this myself...

Dealer usually tries to rip you off. The compressor is fairly easy the expansion valve is under the dash but can be done without Removing the dash.

@@fixitish yeah you are right... couple hours maybe $180-$250 and others may charge only $150 installing this but best to take evac the system first before doing this.

How does the 'home mechanic' release freon pressure or as you stated 'recover the a/c system'. How do you do this and is it necessary to flush the system? If so, not sure how to do that also?? Thanks!!!!

Arnold Movies at home you shouldn’t do it unless you have a way to evacuate it with an ac machine. Maybe I can make another video on how you can do this at home cause it’s a bit of a process and I know a lot would say not the proper way but it works.

yes you can remove the ac and drive the car without it. When removing the ac compressor you will need to use a different belt. for this civic the part number was 646k7 from AutoZone. When you go ask for a belt they should have an option for with ac or without ac. You get the one without ac but from what I remember it should be that part number

What size belt did they use to bipass the compresser before I need to do this to mine asap I’m stranded in CAnada haha and I don’t have the money to fix it just enough to throw a belt and go

If it’s just the pulley that’s bad you can replace the clutch without having to remove the compressor and discharging the system! Only costs 35 bucks!

MTBA I don’t think there’s not enough room while it’s on the car to take it off. You would still need to take it out and do the clutch off the car.

MTBA I just watched the video, it does look tight but I see how he did it just unbolted it so tilt it over enough to get to the pulley and clutch. As long as your bearing is good then you should be good to do it this way. On mine the beating was shot.

Hmm 🤔 if he’s talking about the service ports they have schrader valves that can be replaced but do not need to be replaced when doing the compressor. It would be a good idea to do those and any orings that are easily accessible not not that you would have to

What's the proper way of removing the gas from the old compressor? Don't want to be damaging the environment. Finally, the new AC compressor is installed, what is the next step besides putting in R-134A?

The proper way of removing the charge from the ac system is With an ac recovery machine. Once you have the new compressor in if you got a new compressor you will need to add the proper amount of pag oil to the compressor. Then put a vacuum to the system before charging it with the r134a

You can take it to a shop to have it recovered or you can slowly release it to atmosphere. You aren’t suppose to do it that way but if you can’t get to a shop or don’t have the money to spend at the shop it can be down that way.

You can do that. When I’ve had to do it that way i would loosen a bolt for a hose that was gonna need to come off but not fully take it off just a little lose and move the hose a bit. It will start leaking pretty quickly

You can refill it yourself if you go rent the tools for it you’ll need to use the ac manifold gauges and vacuum pump. If you don’t wanna go through all that a shop can recharge it for not too much. And you’ll also need to make sure you add oil to the compressor. If you get a new one it will usually say it comes prefilled with some but you’ll need the correct amount for this car

Sillyboy Ent if you don’t need ac anymore you can just wait until you can afford it. They make a smaller belt that you can use to bypass the compressor.

This is one way of doing it. It can be done without removing the alternator from underneath the car, also by removing the fan from the top.

Just rewatched this and realized I didn’t talk about that. If only replacing the compressor you will only need 1.5-2oz, new ac compressors will come with some oil. It should say on there how much usually it’s 3oz so take out 1oz out or drain it all the way out and add the correct amount. It takes pag46

MardiGras if yours still has the splash shield yes take that off. The compressor will come out from the passenger side so any plastics by the wheel well that will get in the way you’ll need to take off.
