@khadan8433
@khadan8433 2 жыл бұрын
You can rotate them independently but you must make sure crank shaft is NOT at TDC when you are trying to get camshaft at TDC. Reason for this is because the camshaft valves have a spring resistance, and it can spring the cam backward or too much forward and hit the top of the piston. By not having crank shaft at tdc, your piston is at its lower than max elevation with respect to the ground. That means you are free to rotate cam however you like and it won’t hit the top of the piston as it goes through the cycles. In short, make sure the crankshaft is at the bottom or BDC, rotate camshaft to TDC, rotate crank/pistons to tdc, put on timing belt. Best of luck!

@@irisbaez1972 hi iris, rotate your crankshaft CW until the marks are NOT aligned (crank shaft is now not at TDC, if the marks are already not aligned, you are free to move onto next step). Rotates your camshaft to align with its TDC mark. Rotate crank shaft again to its TDC mark because you just rotated it out of TDC in the 1st step. Put on/loop your timing belt. Pull the tensioner. Done. If you don’t know what TDC for crankshaft and camshaft looks like, please Google it because it’s difficult for me to explain what it looks like through text. All the best!

@SEsGarage

@@freddytech01 the hardest part for you will probably be setting valve timing. As long as none of your sprockets move and you keep all the slack on the tensioner side of the belt you shouldn’t have any issues. With that being said, these are interference engines so if you do mess timing up you can cause catastrophic damage to the engine so just be careful

@SEsGarage 2 жыл бұрын
@@genehutson6865 it very well could be. However, with a correlation code I’d really take a hard look at those timing marks. P0018 would usually be accompanied with a cam timing over advance code. Make sure you have the timing marks dead on, and make sure you have the timing belt installed correctly, they are directional

@stephanM5
@stephanM5 2 жыл бұрын
Why automobile manufacturers are still using timing belts is absolutely ridiculous. You have this cheap synthetic rubber material that is prone to premature wear and tear that is responsible for the timing of the valves opening at the right time in concert with the pistons coming to top dead center that if it breaks will cause the pistons to crash into the valves and destroy an engine. For the small additional cost of a timing chain instead of a belt you would never have to worry about a cheap belt letting go and having to buy a new engine that would cost thousands of dollars to repair. An engine where the piston can possibly strike the valves due to a timing belt failure is known as interference engine. When the piston cannot hit the valves regardless of timing belt failure is known as a non-interference engine.
