2006 BMW 330i rear left driver side window regulator replacement (New HD)

The rear left driver side window of my 10 years old BMW 330i stopped working. I could hear the window regulator motor rolling but the window glass did not move at all. Since it doesn't require any complicated tools to fix it, I decided to DIY and made this video to share with you. Please let me know what do you think about it :-)

This helped me so much! Midas was going to charge me almost $600 for parts and labor, but with this video's help, I bought the window regulator replacement on Amazon for $20 (didn't need the motor) and got through the labor in 2 hours (And someone with more mechanical experience could do it much faster than I). I just fixed it, took 30-45 min. Toughest part is the glass. Total cost was 32$ and it saved me hundreds compared to local mechanics and dealerships. Thank you for such a helpful vid, 10/10

First thank you for this video. I am going to attempt to replace the regulator on my 2006 325i and it will be my first time doing something like this. I was told by a mechanic that when replacing the regulator you have to take it to a professional so they can attach scanners. However I do not see you performed any kind of scan. Thoughts?? Are they just trying to scare me into having them do it for the nearly $400 they are asking?

Xelene Guardado They are ! I hope you were able to fix it yourself. Read forums online as well to see if there's any difference between your BMW and others when it comes to the windows. Most like there isn't and you should be fine doing it yourself.

Did you get it fixed? You don't need scanners to fix. Some can use a tool/scanner to reset the windows if not aligned in the PC memory, but this can be done using the window switch. Look it up.

Thank you for the reply, good video. It took me a little longer to separate the window from the regulator because for some reason my window would not move up at all manually or otherwise. I was able to maneuver a screwdriver to push the pin.

Damn. I did it. It took me about an hour and half. Never in my life I fixed anything in a car. YourMechanic quoted $450 and the dealership quoted $500. It costed me ~$70. Dorman Window Regulator $45 (at Autozone). Don't buy at O'Reilly they asked for $72. Star screw driver & handle $25. There is no need for a star screw driver. It can be done with a line screw driver too. More than anything It is good to get hands dirty once in a while. Gives a perspective on prices.

Hi there, I can press the switch of the rear passenger side window and hear the motor sound, but I can slide the window up and down with my palm as if no thing is attached to it. Is it regulator not motor issue? Asking b/c I am visiting a salvage yard soon to buy used parts. Thanks

Thanks for your commend. But sorry, I really don't know if it will work for the e90 LCI or not. If you buy parts from Amazon, you actually can check if the parts fit your vehicle or not on their website.

Two tips for those windows stuck all the way down and not moving at all. 1. Push the green hook/clip to release the glass then it will move up or down. 2. You don't have to always buy entire regulator, See which part is broken. Plastic clip or string can be bought separately and repair your broken regulator. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gX_beYBqqtyeh8k

do you hold the glass window up or how do you keep the glass window in place?

Before putting regulator in you will need to hold the glass up. After putting regulator in, the glass needs to "sit" in the white plastic holder. watch it at 2:30.

Mine (the rear left) is still working fine after replacement. But yesterday my rear passenger side glass regulator broke again after the replacement I did only 6 months ago, shit.
