Well guys sold my 06 chevy aveo 1.6 LT to a good buddy of mine even though I done alot of work to it I told him to let me hold onto it for a week or so... i changed the entire timing kit(water pump included again) and replaced every gasket from top to bottom and then gave it to him he asked why'd you do all that for free.. I said well I enjoy working on vehicles and itll save you alot of time in the future and plus I wouldnt do it for just anyone so as a past aveo owner I was happy with the all around overall of it but I'll be signing off today as a chevy aveo owner✊✊ FYI he bought the parts I just added the labor😁

Good video with a clear explanation. The blue perma-dry continuous gasket from Fel Pro should not need any sealant whatsoever though. But beware of Fel Pro calling their regular gaskets Perma dry because they will leak. As a rule, you use either a GOOD gasket OR a sealant, There should not be a need for both, But if leaks are persistent. and gaskets are not doing the job then by all means add sealant to the more uneven or leak-prone side. The Video is very correct when pointing out the incorrect application of RTV to the gasket being removed at the spark plug well location. I personally like the thick blue perma-dry gaskets but not a fan of Fel Pro otherwise. Sealed kits from Fel Pro are not returnable if they are opened even if they are short gaskets listed on the package or are regular gaskets marked Perma-Dry.

Advice To those that look to buy a early model chevy aveo with high mileage, dont get an aveo with anything smaller than the 1.6L engine, go ahead and change timing belt, both pulleys and water pump, change valve cover gasket and replace every vaccum hose id say within the first month of having the car trust me itll save you so much time and hassle

I do not recommend the sandpaper. It will break off the sandpaper particles and get in to your engine. Probably will cause some minor damage till the filter catches it. If you insist on using sandpaper, i recommend you don't use that type of sandpaper because it is designed for woodworking. You should use instead the wet/dry type which usually had a grey/olive color paper backing as opposed the one you are using which is tan colored. Its less likely to loose its grit. Designed for sanding paint and bondo. Maybe go to a 600 or 800 grit would be smoother.

So the section that I needed, you didn't film. The two hoses in the back. Particularly the breather tube on the left/passenger side is the one I was having trouble with. Although I did not see the clip on that same side near the electrical plug you disconnected, so that may have been part of the issue of my trouble.

Is that 'silver' 4 pointed 'cross' that is attached to the cover in the far left hand side (facing the engine) the PCV valve? At 11:51 on the video, it is sitting on top of your battery, that part. Is that it? I have a 2006 Aveo I had this gasket replaced, seems all the replacement gaskets are all bright blue! Mine is just like yours. I had the same oil on the top, around the spark plugs, and minor weeping of oil around the gasket. So i had it replaced. I replaced the sparkplugs a few days later, I put in Iridium ones, it runs like a 150HP car now:) BUT i have wanted to replace the PCV vale for a while, it has the OEM one in it, and it is so cheap to replace. I look up online and i see like 5 different designs, most look like they screw into some part of the engine and then a hose goes on the other end. BUT a few also look like that silver cross part of yours. So...is that our PCV valve, or what is it? It seems to depend on the year, 2006 is different from 04,05,07,08 etc...so can you tell me? Thanks.

Robert Cookson If I understand your question you’d like me to provide the parts kit I used. I used a Fel Pro Valve Cover Gasket Kit. I got it locally from a parts store. Sorry I don’t have the number for the kit. You definitely want to make sure to get those o-rings swapped. This area of an engine is always heat soaked and it slowly destroys any rubber component.

@JoesCarSmartsNY

Thanks, I'm doing the same job on the same vehicle. How would you recommend removing oil from around the spark plugs
@JoesCarSmartsNY
@JoesCarSmartsNY 4 жыл бұрын
Compressed air (with the old spark plugs still installed). If you don’t have compressed air it becomes a matter of trying to fish a paper towel or something down there to soak up as much as possible. Try not to get it into the spark plug hole tho. There’s probably other contaminants in that oil too.

After fixing the problem that cause oil in plugs and changing the plugs what i did because i didnt have a air compressor or tank i tokk a long 3/8 inch fuel line rubber hose and took like 20 qtips and put them together with a rubber band and stuck em in one end of the hose but make sure there in the hose like super tight then i sprayed the ends with brakleen and stuck it down the wells and carefully cleaned the oil out...this out of the blue method i used takes more time than compressed air but cleans it way better

You can leave the spark plugs in while you do this. You should follow manufacturers recommendations on spark plugs. If you can’t find those recommendations then 50k miles between spark plug replacements is a good idea. Some go longer than that depending on the exact vehicle.

@JoesCarSmartsNY
@JoesCarSmartsNY 2 жыл бұрын
Driving it is reasonably safe. If the oil is leaking badly there is a risk of fire so you want to keep track of what’s going on. Degreasing the engine to remove the excess oil would reduce the risk of fire. It also depends how long you need to delay the repair.

I'm doing this and I'm half way to the finish.. I just need to know where to set my torque wrench to the 89 in. Lbs. The owners manual gives me an example that goes like this... 40 In. -Lbs. (40+0) (250 In. -Lbs. wrench) ... So I guess this means that when I set the selector scale on the wrench to 250 In. Lbs I'm actually getting 40 In. Lbs.? ....so to get 80 In. Lbs. I double 250 to get 500 on the wrench selector scale? the selector scale starts at 120 -960.. any feed back will be appreciated... thanks.
