omg thank you so much for this video....my challenger 3.5 was running great. i changed the plugs and cleaned throttle body, put everything back together and thats when i got the lightning bolt, looked at other videos but nothing helped. saw your video so went to check it cus i changed that gasket also. it was good but i forgot to put one of the other hoses back on. so without your video i would of never checked back there....THANK YOU SO MUCH

Thanks! I had to make injector harness repairs, which required having the intake off. Now my wife's 300 is going into limp mode occasionally. I'll be replacing that gasket tomorrow when it's light outside.

You were so right mind 05 dodge magnum 3.5 had the same problem clean the throttlebody spark plugs and still the lightning bolts it was the EGR gasket took it to the dealer cost 846 to fix and clean

I just picked up an 06 magnum rt . I use to stall out and and lack power so i got the sparkplugs done. Sometime later as i pulled out from the shop i ran much better but the lightning bolt and engine light came on. U0100 p0700 codes. Eventually dissapaered but comes back here and there. when i turned it off today and back on it dissappeared.... hopefully this solves the issue

If the lightning bolt does not go out after turning the key on and your car goes into limp mode when driving then the most likely causes are your Accelerator Pedal Position sensors (there are two in every pedal) and your Throttle Position Sensors (two which are built into your throttle body). One of those two things may need replacing or something in between them. It could be a loose connection to the pedal, ECM or throttle body which should all be checked. The lightning bolt means information from the pedal and the throttle body does not make sense to the computer so either the pedal, throttle body, ECM or the wires in between... Best move is to check for codes with the key dance and go from there. If there are no codes (worst case) then it could very well be the ECM or the power being delivered to the ECM or the TIPM. :(

@@chrissexton6634 Clean the throttle body and if there is no change, if it still shows up, check the codes in the computer. Anything to do with APP1 or APP2 would be your pedal. TB1/2 would be the throttle body. No codes at all would be the ECM. Some readers might show them as 1/2 others as A/B but there are two on the pedal (three wires each) and two on the throttle body. Each pair of sensors read a different value as they are usually 1:2 scale ( one reads half of the other). Intermittent faults are not going to show up on a meter though, you would need a scope to see when one goes bad.

Hey great video I just replaced the throttle body today, Thinking the that would fix the problem, But it did not, On my 06 300 the lightning bolt comes on along with the ESP on the dash, And now that u mention the rubber seal i do hear a air liking on the tube that connects to the intake manifold, I’ll replace it and see what happens after. thank you 👍👍

Jacob Yes it worked for me. I swamped the seal from the intake manifold and the EGR tune seal and make sure i had no leaks. Done deal working fine now. 👍🏻

I just have a hole different issue now. It’s been going on for a while now. But on Cluster speedometer i have been getting a fault and it does it many times while driving or stopped. I get a fault and my gages go al crazy down and up like the car wants to turn off I don’t know what the problem is. Anyone knows or had the same issue please comment back Thankss

I have learn ANYTIME! You remove the intake just replace the seal. It cost 3.00 top. I got the check engine light and the things on the print out, I already replace. ALWAYS start with the small unapparent thing first. But he is 100% right.

Mike 230- Helpful vid in the diagnosis and probable cause, But it would have been even BETTER If you demonstrated HOW to change the seal? For instance, does the intake manifold / plenum have to be loosened to get the tube and seal out? What about the 2 small bolts at the other end of the tube where it bolts up to the EGR valve itself? IF the have to be removed, would be good to see how it's accomplished. I'm having this issue and will look at mine tomorrow. Hopefully, I can do this from behind the plastic trim / take wipers off etc. and not mess with the intake mani...! G

I've replaced the EGR tube seal on my wife's car about 7 times in the last 16 years, so hopefully I can help. You can either take the plenum off, put new gasket on the top of the EGR tube, (aka EGR gasket tube seal), then reinstall, or you can loosen the 2 lower bolts of the EGR tube, remove it, replace the EGR tube seal, reinstall into the back of the plenum, then reinstall the EGR tube at the flange. It's a very tight squeeze to get to both bolts though if you're planning on keeping the intake plenum on and trying to replace the tube seal by just removing the lower 2 EGR bolts at the flange. The one closest to you will be much more accessible and can be reached with a 9" extension and a wobbly socket, but the one closest to the firewall will require having to reach around the back side of the plenum and you'll be doing much of the work by feel. I did this very same procedure 2 weeks ago and used a 1/4" ratchet, 2" wobbly extension & shallow 8mm socket. Pay special attention to ensure the lower EGR gasket is seated correctly at the flange when reinstalling, and you might want to replace that little gasket while you have the upper tube off anyways, (less than $5). Also note the orientation of the EGR tube seal before removing to replace it from the upper EGR tube after you pull it out of the back side of the plenum, as there's a right way and a wrong way. Simply loosening the EGR tube bolts at the flange will not give you the angle you need to re-seat the upper EGR tube & tube seal back into the back side of the intake plenum, in case you're wondering, (ask me how I know). Removing & replacing the EGR tube seal by removing & replacing the EGR tube is much faster than removing the entire intake plenum, but can be very frustrating when it comes time to reinstall due to not being able to see what you're doing as well as the challenge of trying to keep the EGR gasket lined up on the bottom of the tube when mounting it back to the flange. 1A Auto actually has some decent vids on this. Note the orientation of the tube seal if you watch the vid, especially if yours is currently torn or missing and not able to see which way is the correct way, since they do get sucked into the intake sometimes when torn. My egr seal disappeared during install. Placed the tube in the socket of the intake manifold. Then had to remove the manifold to bolt in the egr. Upon removing the manifold the seal vanished. No where to be found manifold, intake, on the transmission bell housing NO WHERE. This is working my nerve.

Okay Much appreciated. Did mines on a 2010 Dodge challenger with a 3.5, very important. You need a good Rtv SEALANT after u put the ring in....ITS, poor engineering by Chrysler. Also. I used a plastic black weld weatherproof. MOST IMPORTANTLY ""RELEARN THE THROTTLE BODY"" THERE ARE VIDEOS ON IT, IF NOT THE LIGHT WILL COME UP AGAIN. It happened to me. Once you plug out the throttle body connector, it must be relearned or reprogrammed. VERY IMPORTANT!

When someone tells you that you need a new com, don't believe it until you troubleshoot for yourself. I was told I had no 5 volt reference and turns out I had a short in my camshaft sensor. 30$ fix plus a little time. Dealer wanted 1800.00.

Throttle body. I got a 06 300c. If it stalls when ur hitting the gas or goes into limp mode ECM/PCM but more likely than not it's ya Throttle body. Especially if it's over 80,000 miles. If u put in a new one it has to be programmed. If u just clean the old one you don't. I recommend new

At your own risk try to feel around see if you can find that vacuum leak. Keep your hand away from the fan and more towards the top Center. Shake couple things around and I'm sure you'll find it. I would start there first.

Ok I went out there and it is sounding like its coming from back around the throttle body itself .I tried to pull the air filter to move the black deal to listen an observe. It's a loud hissing .the throttle body itself was hissing the other day when I cleaned the throttle body .i didnt dismount the throttle body I just cleaned the outer butterfly .should I clean the hole thing?

Martin Luna you would have to take the intake manifold off completely which should take you no more than 15 minutes. First you should turn on your vehicle and listen for a hissing sound to ID a vacuum leak which would cause this, then you're going to need to take off your intake manifold and there is a 2 bolt gasket that's on the bottom of the tube and a rubber blue o-ring for the top

Martin Luna Check the EGR tube gaskets on both ends first , see if that tube has any play in it and also verify that the gasket that I'm holding in my hand isn't sticking out or making a hissing noise meaning vacuum leak. This will 100% cause the red lightning bolt.

If anyone is experiencing this problem directly after a tune-up especially after a tune-up then the reason for this is most likely your EGR tube gaskets. As soon as you remove the intake manifold you separate the EGR tube from the manifold and when people go to reassemble after they're finished sometimes that gasket doesn't sit correctly in the manifold so it causes a vacuum leak. Now if you didn't just do a tune-up then it could be that the gaskets on the tube are bad and need replacing. To install these two gaskets one on the bottom and one of the top it is a very easy task but for the gasket going in to the manifold make sure to slide the blue ring all the way back on the sleeve, if you don't it will get sucked in and you will have to do it again.

That's exactly what was happening with the car that I was working on. Flashing lightning bolt, car started shuddering and then stalled. That seal for my vehicle was causing that problem.

This is something that typically happens after a tune-up because the seal is Disturbed and sometimes it doesn't seat correctly back into the manifold. Do you hear any hissing from behind the manifold?

You can reset everything from unplugging the battery or using the scanner. If I'm not mistaken if it's done correctly with the seal your limp mode should go away on its own. You may have other things happening but this is one of the cheapest approaches to fixing this problem if it's related to the seal.

Check your throttle body or throttle position sensor, especially I ur car is over 80,000 miles. If it's showing lightening bolt with reverse commas it's has something to do with that,ur sensor or info running o ur ECM/PCM unit

The throttle body valve doesn't open like a regular throttle body will because it's electronic. Trying to remember correctly but if you put the key on the accessory mode it should unlock.

I would say the engine overheating would probably be the water pump, thermostat or head gasket related. Now you could somehow have an air pocket in the system if you recently done some kind of maintenance to the coolant system but as far as overheating in relation to the seal I would assume no since it would just be a large vacuum leak.

There should be a couple videos online about how to replace the EGR tube.

At your own risk, the egr tube behind the manifold should be secured with two bolts in the top and two bolts in the bottom. Take all bolts out of the tube and remove the tube. Please note the direction of the seal and remove and replace with new seal. Then reassemble the EGR tube and secure all bolts. That should be it. please be aware of your surroundings when attempting to repair. Again any repairs that are attempted are at your own risk.
