What is that switch called if i wanted to replace it so i didn't have to worry about it anymore? Also can i just replace that entire shifter with 1 i would pull from the boneyard?

Before you spend money on replacement parts take off the shift knob and see if you can shake out any plastic pieces that are loose inside, blocking the button from operating properly and releasing the key (or moving the shifter out of park).. what happens is the little plastic tabs that hold the cap on the shift knob break and fall into the button mechanism.. causing all this trouble. Of course it could also be a bad part but check the simple stuff first

I have an 05 hyundai sonata with same problem think this fix would work on my car i went into the center console to try n figure it out but didn't really know what was what

So what's the solution to correct it? ... besides having to use a screwdriver constantly? I tried to bend that piece back up, but it won't bend, you can't get it to bend past where it touches, so it doesn't really bend. Thoughts?

I have the same problem but takes wiggling the steering wheel to remove it, on a 2007 kia sedona. Any ideas??

yes open up the console and check that switch. If your key is not coming out after its in park it is that switch. you can test it with a pencil like i did and you will have your answer. if it is that switch like mine you can possibly bend the wire a little and see if that corrects the issue. this is a very common problem

Is this the same for a 2007? My wife’s van is having the same problem and I can disconnect the negative on the battery and the key comes out. We been doing that for a few days now.

Yes unfortunately you have to take out the shifter. Its not difficult you can modify the switch if you cant buy a new one the video shows how it works and that prevents getting the key out

Sorry i dont have a video to remove it. But i recall it being pretty simple. You will need to remove the panel first to get to the bolts for the shifter. Or to make the modification to it. My video was to show what was causing the problem rather then just removing cable on battery. Hope i helped.

You can rig up the bar to the top and that will by pass thw feature

I saposed rigging the bar to stay up....maybe a tiny screw ??? I didnt do that I went to junk yard and pulled out the whole shifter assembly and installed it. I dont know if there is a way to replace just the switch because it all goes i to one plug assembly quick connect. Although you could cut the wires and resolder them with replacement switch. Either way there is options. It can be by passed

No Sorry I just posted what causes it. I removed the whole shifter assembly and bought a junk yard replacement
