This video is nothing fancy but a hopefully useful DIY coilover install. I am not no mechanic by any means, just a normal person just trying to save a few bucks doing my own install and help others with their project. I know there are 1000 ways to do this and this is my way.

Years late but best vid for the 2006 GS 430 by far. I wish I would have saw this vid before I started working on it, but the vid cut down half the time I was going to use working on this...

Super glad it helped. KZbin helps me, figure I would give back to the community. Every time someone comments, makes me look at one of these videos again. Gosh I miss this car. Had it for around 8 years, only issues I ever had was a bad gas cap, and leaking strut. Crazy. My 2014 Jeep has one issue after another.

ha ha. Have to add that disclaimer because KZbin comments will tear you apart if you do one thing wrong. Own a Jeep now, well this thing lives with a check engine light on. After not ever actually having to break a bolt in the engine bay, finally broke down and took it to the dealership. They repaired it to where the CEL stayed off for a little while, but they broke the tabs on my fuse box, left the inside of the vehicle sooted from jumping in and out, left off misc. hardware on various components in my engine bay, then the check engine light came back on after 20 miles of driving. Hate people touching my vehicles.

Use a pry bar to lower suspension arm more. I had one handy. Or use a long pipe.

Trickiest part was using a long pry bar to lower the rear lower control arm to let me pull out factory strut. Literally put bar in there, with one foot put weight down on pry bar, stood on my other foot, and grabbed strut with my hand. If you have some help, will be a lot easier. lol. I may have used a 10' piece of pipe. Either way, use some long type bar.

Do you have to compress the spring before removing it? And why did you tie it up with the rope?
@tunedis95
@tunedis95 7 жыл бұрын
Clearance. You can unbolt the lower suspension arm and wouldn't have to do that. I just wanted the spring to stay compressed, once removed, i compressed the spring with proper tools, cut the rope, and split up the strut assembly

Thanks for the great video! I just had to replace a blown strut on my 06 GS430 at 117k. A note for others - my strut would not come out without disconnecting the upper sway bar end link to let the control arm hang lower. I battled a spring compressor for an hour only to figure out it does no good on the stock spring/strut combo. The spring is fixed at both ends.

Probably because the ride is alot stiffer. I have BC coil overs on my 07 GS450h and at setting 5 which is very soft, range is 1-30 (hardest) . it is still noticeably stiffer than stock. But i believe the aftermarket to be better quality than stock. because everyone knows the factory Lexus/Toyota strutrs/shocks go at 70-80k miles. Also the hard tires I have Michelin Pilot Sport AVS3 doesnt help either. With stiff sidewalls They feel like Pirelli run flats.
