I want to commend you on taking the time to produce this video but I wanted to make some suggestions and hope it’s helpful. 1. When setting up the shock length out of the box you will always want to make it shorter than the factory dampers. The reason is that aftermarket coilovers will usually have a much higher spring rate than the stock spring. So, if the shocks are the same length then the higher spring rate one will have a higher sitting car. If you felt like doing math you can find out the coilover’s spring rates, look up the corner weights, and motion ratio for your car. 2. Most of these manufacturers want you to put a few mm’s of preload on the spring and do all height adjustments from the lower bracket. I know what you all are thinking, “I don’t want to unbolt the lower bracket each time to spin it.” Well, you actually just spin the threaded body part by grabbing it with two hands and rotating. If that doesn’t work you can always use the spanner wrench on the spring collars to get it to rotate in and out of the lower bracket. If you do want to droop the spring it may actually improve your ride quality if you maintain adequate compression stroke but I suggest you use helper springs to soak up that void/slop in the main spring. This will help maintain the main spring’s position under droop and mitigate noise that may come from the spring clunking around in a rebound/droop situation. If you pursue this method and really want to setup the car like a race shop would then you’d want to google things like setting “critical shock length” and adjusting height via the spring and lower bracket combo. 3. One of the most helpful things I can offer when adjusting ride height is to find out the suspension motion ratio for your car. For example, let’s say you install the coils and the car is 1” too high. That doesn’t mean you will adjust the coilovers an inch. On cars that are not macpherson strut, like this, will adjust a lot more at the fender than at the shock. Let’s say the car has a 0.75 motion ratio in the rear. That means a 1” drop at the fender is equivalent to a 3/4” adjustment at the shock. I see time and time again that people have a really hard time bouncing back and forth with height adjustments. If you have the ratio you should be able to hit your target in one adjustment. 4. When connecting the rear LCA to the spindle it can be made easier if the shock and sway bar links and not bolted in. I have the control arm connected at the subframe and then connect to the spindle. That will allow you to articulate the arm much easier. If that’s too hard then unbolt it from the subframe and connect to the spindle first. Then reconnect to the subframe. Once that’s done you can use your jack to push the LCA upward so you can bolt the shock bottom in, with the but finger tight. Then do the other shock. Then do the other shock. Then compress the suspension as shown and torque all connections. After this is done then connect the end links and torque them. After that drop it on the ground and see what you got. It’s much faster this way imo. Hope that’s helpful. I’m doing one next week and checked out your video to just remind me of what panels i needed to remove in the trunk. Thanks for that.

Hm, I see. Well regardless on a DIY you would still have to bring it in for an alignment afterwards lol I was going to have a shop install it and do alignment and all that. Corey Mun you usually just need initial alignment when first lowering. After that, if no major damage or changes, you should be good. I haven’t had an alignment in 9 years. After my 3 year alignment expired, haven’t done it. Plus it’s a pain to find a shop with a low or inground lift.

Just bought these and in the process of installing them. Do I have to take off the entire coil to adjust the height? It seems that if I use the top two with the adjusting hooks it only moves the spring? The only time it adjusted the height is when I would twist the coil while it was off the car.
@TunerwithKids
@TunerwithKids 4 жыл бұрын
Joseph Reyes you set the lower perch as far up or down as you need for normal heights. The top perch will be your adjusting for when it’s on car, if you ever go up or down. That also affects the amount of suspension travel. You have to dial it in enough where you can even move the top perch once it’s on car.

One day on this. You know what stupid mistake I made? Haha, like how I drive everyday, I stepped on brake, shifted to Park, then set e-brake (on my slightly slopped driveway). Then jacked up the rear wheels (both), the spindles are under torque from the axles !!!! All the linkages and the control arms are under so much tension, making it so hard to remove the M14 bolts (I stripped one but luckily I have M14x1.50 die and tap), and impossible to put the last bolt from control arm to spindle. Oh man, I tried everything, shortening the coilover height all the way, finding a long long pry bar, disconnecting the lower linkage (which popped out and its hole was then off one inch from the bushing.) 8pm, I finally figured out something is not right when everything is under so much tension EVEN WITHOUT THE COILOVER, then started the engine, shifted to Neutral and release the e-brake. Voila! Everything falls back in place! GUYS, CHOKE THE FRONT WHEELS, JACK UP THE REAR WHEELS, AND RELEASE THE E-BRAKE!

My cars had same alignment for over 15 years. No issues unless you unbolt toe arms. For lowered cars, you need to find a place with inground lift so car can drive on without ramps.

I Z 20x8.5 on 245/30 front and 20x10 on 275/30 rear. Offsets are weak be fit car perfectly with out major rubbing or modifying. I have perfect front camber using a 1IS SPC camber kit. Rear camber is fixed “Miami Chassis” style by widening the lower inside mounting hole and pushing the LCA inward.
@TheGambinoo
@TheGambinoo 3 жыл бұрын
@@TunerwithKids I did my sc300 back in the days at Miami chassis. Hammer made did my camber kit!! Quality work!!! What the offset on the rear wheels I'm looking at some esr 05 for my 06 is250 but they only have 10.5x 19 +22 they don't make a higher offset or a 10 inch so I was wondering about going with the 9.5x19 +22 with a 275/30/19
@TunerwithKids
@TunerwithKids 3 жыл бұрын
That Miami Chassis torch, hammer, and grinder is sus for most people. That’s why they don’t let customers know what the magic is. For offset, +22 is too much for 2IS. You probably need something in the 30s to clear nicely. With +22, expect to grind and add negative camber to fit.
