Tutorial instructing how to replace the center dash storage component in a 2006 Mazdaspeed6. These components are poorly designed and usually break in the right side hinge area. The entire process took me half an hour or so.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video. It's so important to know how to disassemble things with plastic clip, lest you break something removing it. Mine broke just without me even opening it ... clearly a design flaw. I bought a new replacement figuring it will last another 11 years compared to a used one. Thanks again for a really clear and concise video.

I have to say your video helped me a lot! Thank you! I had the same problem on my Mazda6 (not Speed6) with auto transmission. Here in Canada the cheapest price for the replacement part is actually from the dealership. Part # GR6A-55-244-02 (also known as 55-244C) for CAD$112.07 + tax. The part about pulling out the stereo was actually quite difficult and required various pry tools to stick into the edges to get it out. I tried to glue the hinge back together with Permatex Plastic Welder, but it must have been the wrong adhesive because it didn't weld. So I ended up having to buy the replacement storage bin from the dealership. Putting it all back together was a lot easier.

Thanks for the video. Same thing happened to my wife’s Mazda 6 S(non speed). First time I glued it back. 8 years later, it’s broken again. Gonna buy a replacement, hopefully for super cheap like what you found.

An additional tip , after having just done the lid replacement: You might want to place a towel on the lower (shifter) trim before you pull the center trim so you don't scratch it. Also, to remove the glove box cover: pinch the sides as the video shows and then put some downward pressure on the lid, as you pull towards you (the pins have flats on them that allow you to pull the cover off after it rotates down as far as it can go. I let it hand while removing the inner bolt. It took me about 30 minutes to do the whole thing.... great video.

Great video! Extraordinarily helpful. The only thing I can think of to add is that a set of plastic trim tools are useful - the vertical column was quite difficult to remove, and prying up and down each side was really helpful!

Great video. On a 2007 Mazda 6, besides the screws behind the AC control knobs mentioned by Matthew, with an automatic unscrew the shift knob, and put the shift rod in Drive. You can't get the trim off if it's in Park. On reassembly, after putting the trim over the shift rod, I think Reverse was a good position to snap the trim back into place.

Awesome! Works the same for 2005 Mazda 6 Station wagon (same faulty compartment, although on mine the left hinge broke).

On a normal 2006 Mazda 6, the second set of screws are behind the AC control knobs. I had to do this to install AUX in my car. Anyways, great video with all the necessary details.

I am replacing this for the 2nd time also. This time I put an epoxy on the hinge casing to beef it up. Shouldn't have to do it again

Im looking for a used Mazda 6 now....EVERY one I look at has a broken lid!!! If I buy one I'm gluing the damn thing SHUT........like you found out, it'll just break again, one obvious weak point on the Mazda.

That's exactly what I am going to do with mine. Left hinge broke on my 2008 Mazda 6, and I am not willing to pay $40 for a thing I don't use.
