2006 Nissan Titan Rear Differential Repairs pt. 1

I obtained a used rear differential assembly but I believed it was the wrong ratio so opted for rebuilding the rear differential that was in the truck. Turns out somebody changed out the original carrier with a 47:16 crown gear when the pinion is a 47:14. it's no wonder the crown gear teeth failed. what a mess!

wow - what a careless mistake someone made before you. I am shocked it even went down the road like that.

Yes never would have suspected someone could be that dumb to make that mistake. I guess cause it has adjusters on the side bearings they managed to get the case in at all. My customer bought the truck two weeks prior to this so had no knowledge of this "repair".

My stock titan was 336 and it said 14 on the pinion and 47 on the ring

Why do you back those adjustors a quarter turn ?

Relieve the side bearing preload to pull the case out.

For all the work you did why not just buy a new assembly

A complete NEW assembly is not available and a complete used one which I did buy and take parts from, is more time consuming to install given the condition and quality of the used parts.
