Thank you so much for recording this video. I just changed the blower motor for my son who recently bought a second hand 2006 x-trail. Fan was making a terrible clicking noise when running. Was hoping it was just a stick but no luck. Luckily I'd ordered a new motor off ebay just in case. Think it was about $50 AUD. Here in Australia the blower is on the left hand side but pretty much the same layout. For anyone doing this fix in the future, my tips are as follows... The computer has to be removed to get enough room as its a tight fit. There are 3 connections to the blower box. The motor (bottom), the thermostat (on the front right) and the door actuator (behind the black actuator box on the back/right.) This isn't shown on the video and needs to be unplugged before the blower box will come out and its a b*#ch to get to and very hard to press the locking tab and unhook one handed. Nearly ripped it out as I didn't know it was there initially. Our blower box didn't have any screws holding it together, just plastic clips that were brittle and some broke when splitting the box so I just used 4 screws the right length, one in each corner when putting it back together as added strength. There's a great video on youtube on an easy way to remove the old motor from the housing using loops of cable threaded through the holes in front of the motor and and looped over a piece of wood on top of a jack and then jacked out. I used weed eater cord tied in 2 loops. Check it out as it worked really well and made the process of getting the old motor out much easier as it was really stuck in there. The replacement motor I bought off ebay had a plastic lip around the screw hole at the bottom that stopped the motor sliding all the way home. Of course I didn't work this out until I had already re-installed the blower box and couldn't get the motor plug to connect, so I had the joy of removing it for a second time!! I just used a stanley knife and shaved the raised screw hole off the motor after getting it out of the housing (for the second time). Make sure you check that the motor plug connects before joining the blower box halves and reinstalling just in case you have the motor slightly twisted or not down far enough. Trust me it could save you another 2 hours..... Thanks again from Australia as well!!!.

Thank you so much! Just recently we started having trouble with our A/C and heat. I have a 2005 x-trail LE, with climate control. I changed the amplifier ($30 online) a month ago hoping/praying that would be the issue. It seemed to fix the problem... sort of for a while. When I realized the "easy" repair didn't work, I resorted to buying a motor off Amazon. I got the motor for less than $50. When removing the motor from the housing I used some WD40, letting it sit for a while and then blasted the housing where the motor was with my hair dryer. The motor came out of the housing like a dream! I gave a everything a bit of a clean and then put the new motor into the housing. This was more difficult. I ended up calling in the big guns, my husband. I needed more weight to push it all the way into the housing. Anyway, I placed the entire housing back into the x-trail, with relatively no trouble (it helps to be a bit of a contortionist). After reconnecting everything and not having any screws left, I checked my work. We will have heat this winter! Thank you so much canadiancontent for such an awesome and detailed video.

Invaluable information-I saved many hours and finished the job as neat as it looked before I started. For a right hand drive vehicle I think the hardest part was getting the connector for the recirculate/fresh solenoid off-I recommend you take off two small cover plates on the airconditioning pipes. Only other hints would be 1. Buy a new vehicle 2. Get your son or son-in-law (both 30 years younger) to do the job for you. Thanks from Australia

Boy Rudi you have saved my bacon. Got a blower motor from Amazon for $70. Checked with local Nissan dealer, parts and labour would have been nearly $1,000! Your procedures were clearly explained and, yes, it does take approx.4 hours to replace. Make sure all three zap straps are cut off, I forgot the back one, it’s almost inaccessible. My 2006 X-Trail was slightly different than yours, but pretty close. Don’t miss out any of the steps shown. I bag my screws/bolts as I take them off in individual little bags, makes for easier replacement. Had to snap off the plastic tabs that hold the two parts of the blower assembly, but used some of the unused screw holes for extra screws. The removal of the motor from the housing was a real pain. Used Liquid Wrench aplenty and a heat gun, to soften (expand?) the motor housing while prying out VERY slowly. Took me almost an hour to do that. I used a black pvc pipe to hammer the new motor in, do not hit the spindle. As someone else said, pushing the assembly back into place was tough and very tricky. If you are a reasonably confident home mechanic you can do it. Mine was made unpleasant by doing it outside when it was freezing. Thanks a whole bunch, Rudi.

Another happy watcher here. Thank you for sharing. I just did this procedure on my RHD Australian 2005 Xtrail in about 1.5 hours. It's slightly different, but you provided enough info to get me started. I didn't remove the computer, but removed the 2 bolts securing it to the frame so it could be moved aside to allow more space. It seems like there isn't enough space to get get the blower enclosure out and back in, but there is if you're determined. There is a third bolt on the right side of the assembly that is tricky to locate - you'll know if you've got them all out as the assembly will move freely.

I fitted one today; your advice of removing the ECU first was invaluable, it made the job a breeze!
@mikequinlan33085 жыл бұрын
Thanks for making this. My only comment to add is that a heat gun on a low setting is helpful to soften the assembly and remove the motor, and then to press it in. Also, you need to be exact in the refitting in order to ensure that electrical connector will plug back in without issue. I was off by 1.5mm and had to find a way to twist it in the case to be able to plug it anew.

This well made video provided everything I needed to diagnose and change out the blower motor. After checking the fuses and relay I ordered a combo deal from Amazon which included a new resistor and motor $59 with free shipping using Prime and next day delivery. The resistor may have had some life left in it but it did look corroded. We replaced it anyway which confirmed that the motor was the issue. Followed your instructions exactly and because I had fabulous help (both over 60) we did the job in about 2 hours. The most difficult part is contorting under the dash to get the unit in and out. If your replaced the entire enclosure you would still have this challenge so save your hard earned money and follow Rudi Jones' instructional video and receive a sense of accomplishment at the same time! We also fixed the wiring harness to the tailgate which had rendered the Rear Wiper, Defogger, Centre Brake Light, Lock and License Plate Lights inoperable. This took another hour with the expert help I had. If I were to tabulate the savings it would be at minimum $1200. The dealer would have charged for replacing parts versus fixing them and shop time to diagnose and repair, Thanks again Rudi

Perfect detailed video. Thanks for taking the time to post. The thermostat you mentioned is actually a resistor and the symptom of it failing is only fan speed 4 works. However if you have a bad fan motor, replacing the resistor will just cause the new one to blow early. So if resistor is bad AND fan is noisey, replace both 😁

Thanks! Getting the motor out of the housing is much easier if you spray a little oil between the housing sides and the motor. Also use a heat gun/hair dryer to warm up the plastic and then the motor just slid right out. Don't do what I did. I pulled on the shaft with a lever mechanism and broke the motor. I also drilled holes in the bottom and tried to hammer the motor out and that broke the plastic housing on the bottom of the motor. I suppose it does not matter since that was the old motor anyway. Great video canadiancontent thank you.

Thanks. RHD. Xtrail. The longest and hardest part was getting to the bolt on the right that holds the white housing unit. When I finally got it out, was surprised to find that the unit had missing screws. Replaced the motor and missing screws, luckily, I had similar screws on hand. There was a crack from previous bad workmanship, which as it is Easter amd everything(shops) is close, I used my hot glue gun to seal the crack. Cold air is blowing brilliant. Ebay and Amazon dont deliver to South Africa, so I purchased it of Aliexpress. It was roughly R450 + R800 courier charges compared to Nissan quote of R11500 for part only.

One question please - the resistor (thermostat) of my fan motor was not working and I replaced it with a new one. I decided to test it before I put it in it original place and turned the fan on - it was working for about 10 min and then stopped. The metal part of the resistor was so hot, so it literally burned out my fingers when I touched it. Did I do wrong when left the new resistor working outside, or should I assume that the motor of the fan is not working properly and is causing the resistors to burn out? At a glance - there were no strange noises, however I don't know if the brushes inside are ok... Will appreciate your input!

I just did this job yesterday. Remove the nut on top and then pull cage up. Hope that helps(there is also a flat part on the shaft and a flat part in the cage hole that need to match when putting back together) ....this guy did a great job.
