Yes i totally agree And long gone are the days we fixed our cars with just a spanner screwdriver and the faithful hammer... BUT BOY DO WE PAY FOR IT...$$$$£££££,,, I would say im hands on with mechanics but all this computer and data readings is over my head... My motto is if it stops scrap it and buy another or stick with classics pre ECU.S 1 no ECU.s 2 no electric sensors 3 no electric windows 4 no central locking = no problems There's something to be said for pre ECU CARS If you have fuel and a spark ya good to go... I have the same car in the vid and its full of the same problems with fuel gauge reading whatever it wants and goes in limp mode as and when it feels like it and only had it a day before having the problems and i got rid of a range rover l322 for the same reasons ... But i do have a 1976 Triumph 1.5 TC strange how the old classic is the most reliable i guess its due to being free of an ecu and all the problems that is ran by an ecu ... Happy motoring guys

Have same issue!! Only thing I notice is when air temp outside is colder...the gage works properly until I drive a bit and then it goes back to full. Could it be a low voltage battery? Fuse? Any updates???

Ah I see!! I took a video of mine behaving this morning. It's a colder morning here on van isle and in the video you can see it starts correct then as the engine warms up it creeps higher and higher. Then when I park and turn off and on it's stuck at 3/4. So bizarre!! But in cold it works fine! There's a Nissan forum that talks about issue and someone had success with a gas cleaner from can tire because GM had similar recall and suggested a gas cleaner with techron. Imma gonna try it!

Hi Hussain, I don't know if you've solved the problem but I've just had the same issue on my Nissan X-Trail 2008. I simply disconnected the fuel reader under the back seats, had a key cycle (showing empty), cleaned the contact and put it back. it seems to work now but I'll figure it out in the next days.

Most often it appears that the gauge is the failure but test the resistance of the sender units and continuity of the wiring from the gage to the senders. good luck

@PhillipBailey3 жыл бұрын
It could be the sender/s or the dash unit. My research found that the gage in the dash is common to fail. You need to test the sending units in the tank. There are two as shown in the video. I also gave the resistance specs in the video. Good luck.

The sender in the pump on left side if roughly 70 ohms empty and 1 ohm full. The sub sender on the right side is 36 ohms empty and 1 ohm full. They are in series with each other so add together. The fuel gage should read empty with roughly 105 to 110 ohms in circuit and full at 1 to 2 ohms. See 15:10 in video. Problem on this vehicle was in the gage itself. Hope this helps you.

@@ilkkamaatta8088 yes that is correct. They are in series so they add up. I don't remember the specific values though but it's mentioned in the video. @@PhillipBailey Yes, the video shows: 1st sensor 5 ohm. (full), 80 ohm. (empty) 2nd sensor 1 ohm. (full), 40 ohm. (empty) So a total of both 6 ohms. (full), 120 ohms. Nice video. I've been struggling with the same issue in my Xtrail. I have tried cleaning both senders and replacing with junkyard senders yet the problem still persists. I did notice that when I wiggled the connector behind the cluster the level would sometimes change, so thought it might be a wiring issue. I also noticed in the wiring diagram that there is a resistor wired in parallel across the circuit (can see it at about 5:25 in this video). I'm thinking that this is like a "voltage regulator" that used to be in instrument clusters of older cars. I'm thinking that the issue could be with this resistor. Thoughts?
@PhillipBailey3 жыл бұрын
I believe what you saw in the cluster was a diode. Likely for bulb check. Older gages used to used a regulator but those were thermal type gages. This is electronic. This appears to be a fairly common failure on this vehicle. Sorry wish I could be more help. Customer decided to live with the issue. Reset the trip odometer every fill up.

But how to solve it?
