exactly what I was thinking while watching not sure total was $250,000 but why when do this to a white run of the mill Cayman S when you could buy a newer Cayman S for less money?
@hayabusa2723 күн бұрын
@ or buy a Lamborghini. Its funny Porsche would release this video like as if restoring a Porsche is like restoring a Honda in the backyard. I took my Boxster in to replace a fuel sending unit it cost me as much as a used Honda. Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes only make money through their service department and overpriced hard to get parts its their business model. You'll be frowned upon if you drag your delapitated old Cayman to a dealer, I did that once the people there looked at me as if I brought in a stripper.

My 2018 Cayman S is the best car I've owned in my 54 years. Although it's a 718, it has the APR mapping, and some 911s are surprised to see me pull away with a smile. These are the ultimate machines. To each their own, as I've owned an R8 and a few others. Looking at the 2025 GTS 4.0.......coming soon!

Well done, Porsche SF...! Just restored my own Cayman 2.7! These cars are mid-modern classics, the last of the analog cars, and a joy to own and drive!

New headliner, no kidding - probably the third or fourth one of those by now. :) On the other hand, those fresh lobster claws look delicious! The engine in the first gen Cayman is a liability. I have a 2016 Cayman S and love it even though I will be replacing my headliner very soon, ha. It's a keeper.

The car has 44K miles and it has a rod failure
@keithjackson4985Ай бұрын
Is that Porsche quality? I don't know? I've generally owned Honda products. I've never experienced a rod failure.
@_IMNNOАй бұрын
@@keithjackson4985It depends on the engine type. Some Porsche engines suffered IMS bearing, bore score, or valve train issues. Most of these issue were over 10-20 years ago and about 5 to 10% of vehicles affected. Most Porsche engines are highly reliable - with respect to the power they make NA or turbo.

Why does an 18 yr old car only have 44K miles on it?!? For shame! These cars are meant to be driven!
@lebordeАй бұрын
Of course it does; it's Porsche 🤣 And they make it look so cool that you want to spend your money on that. The genius of marketing.
@lebordeАй бұрын
@@keithjackson4985 Yes it is. Stick to your Honda. For example, the latest GT3/GT4, that are matching the S2000 performance in terms of hp/l and offering the same 9000 rpm redlines, are given for not more than 300,000 kms (180,000 miles). There are countless S2000 out there doing much more than that, even while being prepped. But Honda won't brag about it, because this is what it would be. On the other hand, Porsche brakes a rod at 44k and makes it in a video, with a technician telling it's a classic textbook thing. Friend of mine owns a similar car and he says the upgrade he needs to do is putting cast iron cylinder sleeves and change the rods, just to be sure he won't have a failure...

Porsche owner/enthusiast for 25 years. I have a 2008 Cayman S in my stable next to a few other Porsches. The original 987 platform was so good out of the box, that it deserves all the accolades and hype for being an amazing Porsche. Love what you are doing with this Porsche and restoration..... but 23 weeks!! Yikes! Would love to see the final bill for costs. How much of that was waiting around for parts?! I am surprised you did not do or show a full suspension refresh/rebuild.

Coventry becoming Atlantis when you need technical support or somekind of small parts. I felt sorry for the working people in the dealership because even they don’t getting all the informations what they need.

Don't get me wrong I love seeing older cars getting some love but isn't a "classic" a car over 25 years old where this isn't and is there anything special about this Cayman S? It's white (worst color you could get one in) and I have to believe that you could buy a newer like new condition Cayman S in an appealing color for less money than what was spent on this. I don't see the point.

2006 Cayman a “classic”needing a restoration? What a load of crap! I have a 1999 Boxster which has over 100k kilometers (60k miles) and it is still like new without a restoration. You restore something which is worthy of restoring. This car?…. maybe in another 25-30 years, if it’s still around.
