I used a Jackery on my Hunter 240 before I sold it. It worked so much better for me than a lead acid battery. It could handle all the electronics that I needed for a weekend sailing on the lake. I loved my Hunter 240, but I decided to downsize. The P18 is on the short list for my next trailer sailer.

My Jackery 160 should be able to handle my boat needs. I'm in the process of changing all lights to LED and I use Navionics on my cell phone. I sold my P18 and bought a 1980 Cape Dory 25 that needs work. The P18 is a very well built boat and more capable than most people would think. You can download a free book by Tom Scott @ www.precisionboatworks.com/boats/p18/index.php, it's about his P18 "Alert" and it is very informative. Thanks for watching!

I purchased your boat. Looking forward to lake-hopping with it next summer.

I think you will be really happy with it. I bought it earlier this year and I couldn't believe the excellent shape it was in. The inside looks and feels like new. The lightest breeze will get the boat moving. Very responsive. If you don't mind please comment back when you take it out and what you think. For a boat that is 17' 5" on deck it sails like a bigger boat. Very well designed and constructed. If you go to Precisionboatworks.com, under Precision 18 sailboat, you can download Tom Scott's book on the precision 18 for free. He has owned one since the 1980's. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for posting, I am considering the Precision 18 and 21 versus the Catalina 22.
@tmwhatif86304 жыл бұрын
I had a Catalina 22 with a fixed keel about 12 yrs ago just for a summer but I didn't sail it do to a shoulder injury. The keel bolts didn't look good, rusted. The Precision's have incapsulated lead in a stub keel so no keel bolts. The Catalina 22 with the swing keel is very popular and you don't have to worry about the Catalina smile( The keel area that bolts into the fiberglass. Catalina22.org can give you a lot of info. As for what I would choose the Precision is very well constructed, sails closer to the wind with the side stays located on the cabin top and I'm I prefer incapsulated ballast. But the Catalina 22 had over 15000 thousand sold so no problem finding a good condition inexpensive one on the market. Thanks.for watching

I think the Catalina 22 has more headroom then the Precision 21. Probably not by much but it could make a difference. It is easy to get parts for the Precision through Precision boatworks and Catalina 22 has Catalina direct. It all comes down to what boat is best for you. I am going to throw in that my Precision 18 is excellent in light air as well as strong wind.

Hi Great info,, Like one of your previous message I’m caught between the Suncat and your boat, P18. Can you elaborate more about pros and cons of both, ie cabin etc Thx Tony
@tmwhatif86302 жыл бұрын
Hi, Both the Suncat and P18 are great boats and are similar in that they both have a 1'6" stub keel with ballast that houses a retractable centerboard. The Suncat is very easy to sail and very stable. It has more head room in the cabin and is easier to move around in. Very nice sailing characteristics, but not fast. Very easy to raise the mast. The P18 is a fast little boat and sails very close to the wind. Not much head room but good space below. The mast is tall and is not as easy to raise and lower. Tom Scott wrote a book about his P18 "Alert" that I downloaded free on www.precisionboatworks.com. For me, I like the Suncat just a bit better because of the cabin layout. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

i am looking at a suncat and the precision 18 which do you prefer? how is that ladder , it looks narrow? how about the your traveller set up it work well?
@tmwhatif86304 жыл бұрын
Both boats are fun to sail I just wanted to sail a sloop again. The ladder works fine for this boat, any wider and it might get in the way of the rudder. As for a traveller, it does not have one. The backstay splits near the bottom and has a three hole plate - one for the backstay - one for the split - one for the main sheet block w/cam. The shrouds are located on the cabin top so you can sheet in and sail closer to the wind. Very good boat. Build quality is excellent in both the Compac Suncat and Precision.

Hello, do you still have the Precision 18 ?

Thanks for watching! Precision makes great quality built boats and sail really good. Being able to retract the centerboard into a ballasted stub keel is ideal for getting over shallow areas. Excellent windward performance.

Fair video, would be better if you knew & used proper terms, and parts of the boat.
@tmwhatif86303 жыл бұрын
I try to keep sailing terms general for this boat as I think it is more of a beginners, day sail, harbor/lake boat. The used 1980 Cape Dory 25 I just bought is a heavier and more capable design and I will be using more proper sailing terms, Port, Starboard, Bow, Stern, KPH, Tack, Jibe, Windward, Leeward, Bolt on keel, Encapsulated keel, Full keel (modified), Fin keel, Sheets, lines, Different areas of the sail, Spreaders, Upper/Lower shrouds, Forward/Back stays,Tiller, Rudder, etc...
