2006 Troybilt Riding mower steering shaft replacement

Today, we're tackling a fairly common problem in these tractors, worn out steering shaft/gear. the rest of the mower is in good enough shape to invest in a few off the shelf parts. I purchased everything on Amazon,

Really for 20 years of mowing this is no big deal 😊 it’s just good maintenance of a mower that is better than the new ones 😮

yea, I really love this mower, and it splits duties with my simplicity 23 hp. only consistent issue I have with this mower is deck belts, I can never seem to get the right belt for it, even the oem belt listed for it doesn't seem to fit... thinkithanks for watchinng the deck has been changed at some point... thanks for watching!

Good day from Ontario. My went wrong onYar works replace it. Would white greae or some grease on gear help from wear? Thanks

you could try some grease on it, some graphite based grease might work best, as white lithium tends to dry up, and regular grease could build up dirt and dried grass and accelerate the problem. thanks for watching!

@@donvoll2580 no problem. If you don't have alot of dust, or can keep it pretty clean in there, you could probably run the regular grease. I have alot of straw type grass, and hard ground that turns to a cloud of dust when the deck blades hit...

That screw on the bottom of my shaft wouldn't come out for nothing. I even broke my number 3 Philips head. I had to cut it off.

my buddy that does lawn mower repair told me that it's more common than most think, and that I ws lucky that it came off like it did. of course he told me that after I posted the vid.

It’s actually a number 4. Use a impact gun with an extension to reach it.

Next time heat the shaft and the lock tight will allow it to be removed 😊. But remove the grass and fuel tank, fire and have a water hose handy
