I am a first-time rider. I just got my license and I bought a 2006 Yamaha V-Star 650 same color as the one you are riding in this video except it has a windshield, hard saddle bags, heel toe shifter and luggage rack. I love it! It is a great motorcycle! Thank you for posting this video.

I'm looking at 1 tomorrow hopefully. Is it heavy
@BEEBEE1594 жыл бұрын
@@BroadenYourMind I sat on one, and I was surprised how light it felt. It's looks like a big bike, but it feels feather light. The weight must be down low. Seriously, I ended up getting a V-Star 250, and the 650 actually feels lighter than my bike, just sitting on it.
@jonathanvillalba32144 жыл бұрын
@@BEEBEE159 same height as you. Not sure how the 250 feels heavier than this. I took the MSF course (they had rebels and groms which are at around 320-340 pounds) and passed the skills test with it. Those bikes felt really nimble compared to my 650 (540 pounds when the gas tank is full). I have to get a couple more road miles on it to have a fair comparison but it still scares the crap out of me when i feel it leaning a little too much for my comfort lol

The V-Star 650 Classic just feels so...solid and reassuring, docile, controllable, yet with enough power to get you *OUT* of trouble, but not enough to get you *into* trouble in the first place Since I’m past my juvenile “must go faster, must go FASTER!” Stage, the V-Star is the perfect bike for me, just a great, stable confidence builder, I don’t see myself outgrowing this one I’m still a novice rider after a long hiatus, my last bike was in 2004/5, a poor condition Yamaha Virago Midnight 920, that bike was truly bipolar, fine for puttering around at idle, but when I twisted on it, the bike wanted to jump out from under me! It felt like it could do 0-60 in around the low 3 second mark... The V-Star is nowhere near as explosive, it’s far more manageable, the Virago screamed “YOU SUCK! I WANNA GO FASTER, NOW!!!” The V-Star whispers “I’ve got your back, buddy, you *CAN* do this!”

'06 VSTAR 650 was my Motocrosser wife's 1st road bike. she's 4'11" so the dealer did some back link lowering. She put 10k road miles on it; I was on a Road King. She has since moved up to modified sportsters for 'keep up' reasons (BURLY slam kits and Fatboy front ends, to end the wobble) but never the less, that 650 got her started really quick and was a very acceptable 3 day weekend ride. .

Anyway, about the power, real good power ! I wonder if it is because of low gearing ? She runs 4200 RPM at 60 MPH. Not a problem but I keep thinking I've got another gear. Also I hear the 650 is one of the most durable motors around. I LOVE my V Star ! PS, your test rides are really enjoyable.

I know metric cruisers usually get clowned on but these are good bikes. They’re small/light enough to learn on, but big/fast enough to grow into/keep long term. Coming from a Harley I like my V star 650 a lot more. Easier to own and ride, doesn’t shake itself apart. Granted it lacks the character of a HD but for 1/3 of the price I can overlook that.

Is this bike too big for a short man (5' 6"), who is a new rider? If I remember right, I have seen women mention that they rode these as a first bike, and they loved it. The choices I have at this time are as follows: 2009 Rebel 250; 2003 V Star 650 Classic; or 2002 Honda Shadow 600. All the bikes are in mint condition with low miles, and the prices are all pretty much the same, around $1,500. I figure the Rebel is probably the responsible choice, and will most likely fit me the best, but with the other two bikes I'm getting way more for my money. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
