This is an amazing guitar even completely stock

I have a collection of 12 Highway One Stratocaster HSS's (??!??). They're great guitars....you just have to change out the crappy stock pickups. Once you do that and put in some quality aftermarket pickups....they become awesome! They're built nicely, have huge frets, nice neck and a big headstock........all I could possibly want from a guitar!

if you ever decide to sell a bigger fretted maple necked strat version of one of these, hit me up!

The stock pickups in mine are far from crappy. I looked up the specs on mine (2002- small headstock- honey blonde- rosewood fretboard) and they're vintage style Alnico single coils with staggered pole pieces.. Again, these are far from what I'd consider crappy. I have considered some Pure Vintage 59s but either way I'm not stressed about tone 😉

If you are happy with the stock mucho mediocre/crappy pickups then more power to you! I require a lot more from my pickups. I play out regularly and must have noiseless performance. I have outfitted all my Highways with different combos of DiMarzio Area and Virtual Vintage pickups and I couldn't be happier.
@Ben6Strings

@rich655 so they're crappy because you need noiseless pickups? Lol okay man
@rich655
@rich655 Жыл бұрын
@@Ben6Strings .....no....they were weak and toneless that's why they were crappy! I guess you like toneless pickups then...lol!

This one - Dave - gave me a clue: Fender/CBS- engineers where able to see the future .. the big headstock was aimed at the clip tuners which came out ~ 40 years later! Equipped one JHS-Vintage Stat with a JBjr ... really had to get used to it ... the split coil option helped a lot although i would describe this tone as "very cold" compared to the original single coil sound which had more jangle. But the 15k ohm hot-hot humbucker sound is usable at higher distortion ... One should put a set of JHS-Vintage low output single coils and a PAF-like humbucker into this beauty and ... there you go with a nice axe imho. Great demo ... as always (sorry for the boring repetitive +++ (;-)) Thanks Dave!

I've got one. I got it to gig with cos I didn't want my '69 Strat getting damaged but it's ended up being my most played guitar (out of 7 electrics, the other 5 being Gibsons & Epi's). It's just so versatile & I prefer the thicker neck & fatter headstock. Maybe I was lucky & got a good one but I've played the shit out of mine. The different finish wears off much easier too & they look great relic'd. No way would I ever part with mine now :)

Great demo, Dave. I recently got a '07 and agree with you that the humbucker is not great. I will be swapping it out for sure. 🤘

Great guitars. I have a 2005 Tele. Stunning. I’m after a 2002/4 HW1 Strat. A lot of clowns say the HW1 is made in Mexico and assembled in US. Bull, it’s made at the Corona plant and cheaper as it is a stripped down version of the more expensive US made Standard. With acrylic finish and Alder body. The Strat changed in 2005/6 and they put on the stupid CBS flary headstock. Humbuckers on a strat suck. Just buy a Gibson if you want a Bucker! You’ll look good changing guitars mid show!

The Highway one's had really hot pick-ups in the later models! I have a 2009 highway one Tele, pick-ups replaced with Bare Knuckles second hand bargain for £300!

I agree, it does not feel exactly like Fender, but it is. In 2007 they started making them with high-output single coils. Plus the rosewood fingerboard also adds a Gibson vibe. However, everything else is pure Fender: 9.5 radius, controls, the bridge, and the shape. Maybe the colors make it look a bit more aggressive.

I think these are really great guitars & the single coils sounded lovely (yeah, I'm with you on the 'bucker lol), though fortunately they usually come with 3 single coils. If you get a chance to get your hands on one I seriously recommend them. All singing, all dancing US made Fenders for not that much more than a top of the range Squier, which makes a lot of difference if you ever decide to sell it on. I've got big hands so I kinda like the slightly thicker neck & I luv the fatter 'Hendrix style' headstock.

I like the humbucker better than my sg's 490t. Those are all low freq. The atomic humucker is more cutting. You forgot to try the amazing grease b circuit.
@FingersOnAFretboard

It's ironic that adding a humbucker limits the versatility, when typically having one at the bridge is supposed to "allow for greater tonal range". I'd prefer P-90's or just a beefier single coil...no noiseless ones-those don't seem to sound right either. Keep a strat a strat, go to a Les P for beef, if that's what you're looking for (or one preferably with P-90's and a Bigsby trem !)

@matzer8846
@matzer8846 9 жыл бұрын
+FingersOnAFender ... yes P90 are some great PUs ... but a low output PAF like PU in the bridge position could do too ... for some of us (;-) ... guess one "Strat" which i could imagine to add is the Pacifica 611 or the Jim Adkins Tele ...
@matzer8846
@matzer8846 9 жыл бұрын
+FingersOnAFender ".. a Les P for beef .." ? ... hm ... my oven is just too small to bake a Les P as Xmas meal ... unless i break its neck ... which i just can't ... i'm a softy (;-)) Besides this stupid joke ... A Strat doesn't have beef? really? If yours is lacking .. do something to help her ... (replace the body with a 5 years old Serrano (:-)) ... NO! ask Dave!

+Matze R I've played all my rockiest stuff on bridge single coils,no prob(Ritchie Blackmore?) or you CAN beef 'em up with a nice tube screamer, or keep the clean twang, thing is hot humbuckers cant clean up so well. Right, a low output humbucker would maybe blend better. I didn't even like a SD little 59 i tried once.
