2007-2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid - Outer Tail Light Assembly Replacement

Just replaced the outer tail light assembly (RH side) on my '08 Camry Hybrid and you DO have to partially remove the bumper to do so. I tried it the way shown in the video but unless your bumper retainer clip is broken, there is no amount of wiggling or pulling that will get it to snap out of that clip. Add'l in the vid, once he removed the light, he shows that the black retainer clip is just sliding around on the bumper cover. Mine was snapped into a little lip on the bumper cover that keeps it in place. I had to snap the lip out of the retainer in order to pull the light out. Only then was I able to remove the black clip from the tail light, and the only way I was able to was by sticking something in the tiny hole on the underside that then releases the clip. I can't see a way of doing this while the clip is attached to the bumper, unless the small plastic part inside that clips/locks onto the tail light is busted. For anyone that is having trouble removing theirs the way shown in the vid: instead just remove the one screw located in the wheel well (there is an access cutout in the felt liner for where that screw is located), one screw at the very bottom of the bumper cover near the wheel well, and the one located under the circular tap (when you open your trunk, you'll see circular pieces, one on each side. Pop that off to reveal the screw). Carefully, starting from the section closest to the wheel well, pull the top of the cover to unclip it from the bumper bracket. I only unclipped mine just enough to where I could access the black retainer clip to unclip it from the bumper cover and then slide the tail light out. Bumper cover snaps back into the bracket easily when you're done installing new light. Side note, I saw some others commenting on theirs not having the LEDs. The hybrid models where the only trim that came with this type of tail lights and replacements will specify whether it is for the hybrid model or not. The non-hybrid trims have replaceable bulbs for all (3, I believe) lights. The process for replacing the light assembly, however, is the same.

Just did my 2007 camry hybrid. I had more challenges to pop it out as there is a bottom black clip from bumper to twilight that just won’t release easily Thanks for the hybrid video. Crazy how the lights mount different for non hybrid

@@36chambersodeath it’s a PITA!!! But probably most easy way is to remove or loosen the bumper so ya can slide that clip retainer off sideways. Don’t be surprised if ya break it yanking on it but don’t worry as everything fits just fine with or without it. It’s kind of one of those 0.5% parts that don’t really do anything except satisfy some regulation from what I gather

Shouldn’t the new light come with the led bulb already inside. My replacement lights just came and they don’t have the bulbs inside. Please help!

Well this looks much easier than the headlights where you have to take the entire car front off. Fingers crossed I can at least replace the one with broken plastic cover.

Update: I finally replaced it. Mine is 2007 and not hybrid but this worked. I had to retrieve the bulbs from my old one. The brake light and blinker light bulbs do not come in the new assembly. 😊

07 hybrid why doesn’t it just come out and have light bulb like other cars and twist and it automatically comes out and just change the bulb I’m confused it’s it malfunctioning thing? 🙃
