I found this looking to remove my door panel to replace the vinyl on the driver's arm rest now I want new speakers. How do the JBL's compare to factory? Are the magnets on the factory speakers tiny? Like an inch in diameter?

I purchased a 2009 RDX Base with 119,000 miles on it. I bought 2 pair of Polk Audio DB 652 coaxial speakers for it. I started with the driver's door, with some apprehension. I installed the 6.5" coaxial speaker and tested it. It sounded worse than the stock speaker. I realized, at that point, that the stock head unit had a built-in crossover. The car has factory tweeters in the door sail panels and mid range drivers in the front doors. No filters were on the individual factory drivers, which meant the head unit had the cross overs built in. IMO, It is a waste of time to install new speakers, unless you replace the factory head unit, or install component speakers. This is the problem with many newer vehicles.

You sound like you know more about audio than I do, but my speakers were completely blown and the problem with resolved by replacing them with the ones that I bought. Sorry that you didn't have the same luck.

@@clintme No worries! I apologize for the tone of my comment yesterday. I had sweat out 10 gallons of perspiration with nothing to show for it! 😊😊 I suspect I could replace the 6.5" midrange drivers in the front doors with better ones, which I may do eventually. The factory tweeters are good quality and sound fine. Those can be replaced easily.

Good news for the rear doors, at least. I popped the door panels and they are full range speakers, so they can be replaced with no problems regarding the signal from the stock head unit. 👍

Just used this video to try to change my mirror. When you're running the pry under and around the door, are you looking for something? I'm having no luck popping the plastic from the metal. I'm worried im going to snap something..

Dylan Quan go get a trim and body panel tool kit for about $15-25 at an auto parts store. Work quicker with extremely low possible of scratching or damaging anything.

Thanks for the video. Quick question though, I need to replace my fronts because my driver side is on its way out. Problem is that I cannot find 2 Ohm replacements. Does it make that much of a difference going 4 Ohms? Thanks!

the ones I got from Crutchfield were 4 ohms --jbl stage 602 and they sound much better than the oems. they are loud and clear.

clintme yeah, I saw them on there. I was just concerned because the stocks are 2 ohms so I didn't know how much of a difference the ones you installed would be since they're 4 ohms. did you just replace the two fronts or did you do the rears as well?

When I ordered them, an automated warning came up and said that the 4 ohm's may result in lower volume. I have not found that to be true. In my opinion, they are just as loud as the factory speakers with significantly better bass and treble. One of my rear door speakers is shot too, but I wanted to see how the new speakers sounded in front before changing out the rear. After hearing the improvement in quality in the front, I ordered a pair for the rear as well. they are coming today and I hope to install them this evening. Are they the best speakers on the market? I don't know, but I can tell you that they are a significant improvement over the oems. For $80 (for 4 speakers) and and an hour or 2 of labor, it is a great investment, especially if your factory speakers are shot.

It's a shame Acura makes it so difficult. Seems they had no problem with the 01 MDXs. All the speakers can be accessed by removing just the speaker cover.
