I searched thru 100s of videos to narrow down to this exact issue. I was just gonna Gorilla glue it back on but after seeing how easy you make it look I'm gonna give it a try! If it works then I'm gonna try to tackle the 3 CDs that someone jammed into player, lol. Thanks for making such an informative and funny vid.

A few points Clay: 1. don't attempt to wash the material. Automotive fabrics like that are very thin and you'll likely ruin it. If it's bad replace it. 2. I looked up the specs for Super 77. It's good to 60C (150F). On the door card, it'll be okay somewhere like Michigan, but it wouldn't last in, say, Florida. Also it wouldn't last on an A pillar, you need a glue that can cope with 100C and the solar load. 3. Most general fabrics should be okay (ish) for a few years below the waist line, but they'll fade like mad on pillars and dash or parcel shelf. 4. A more even finish could be achieved by using a tape rather than spray (also saves masking). Something like 3M 9088 for the high temp performance. 5. a nylon brush or a plastic blade rather than a putty knife *** Don't get me wrong Clay, I'm not criticising. That was a great job on an older car. For those who might need a 'top notch' job on a newer machine, these are 'finessing' tips. I'll be doing something similar myself soon - I've got a roll of Alstom in Charcoal (exact same stuff JLR use in their 'Black Edition' cars) and will be covering my pillars, headlining and parcel shelf (currently light cream). And Kudos to you for helping to prep cars going to needy families. Stay safe, Clay

Extremely valid points. I didn’t think about the heat down there in Florida but this is pretty close to the material that they use when they thermal form these back to factory . I used to build these years ago when I worked at a factory here in Michigan and we used a very similar glue when we would make them. I guess we’ll see a little bit overtime I did this a couple weeks ago and they seem to be fine but you may be correct about that not holding up in the heat

Hey, Clay! You saved me again brother! It's funny, not in a haha way but funny weird, everything that has gone wrong with my 05 Escape you have covered...fuel Pressure sensor, Rear wheel wells (Those turned out GREAT thanks to your videos) Now with the high heat the last couple of weeks here in Michigan the cloth rolled off the driver and passenger side rear door in the last few days..I'm literally working on it every other day now! Still trying to solve that 9 mpg in colder weather (below 60)?? 18 to 20 city 24-26 highway in the warm weather..Cats are clear, changed upper and lower intake 3 TIMES!, New MAF, PCV, Manually cleaned all Fuel Injectors (good spray pattern) coils are all working. Used good IAC Valve, PCV Valve, Changing out the Thermostat with factory 192 Deg, they accidentally gave me 180 deg and I didn't notice till I saw the old box a few days ago.Don't think it will do any good, I just haven't worked on it in a few days now..LOL..Just rusting out and can't afford a new one one right now. But the new used engine only has 40k or so on it, Weird! Thanks for another great video my friend!! God Bless

Dude I’m so glad I could help you out. I personally really like these vehicles and from your description I can’t think of anything right off the top of my head but there’s something that’s got to be causing that problem with your fuel mileage issue…. You do know there’s three catalytic converter‘s in it correct? Anyways if I think of something I will certainly let you know… Remember though if you ever have a real question that you need to answer quicker it’s easier to message me on my Facebook page Clay Ac and Auto Repair. I only say that because I do remember speaking to you before because I remember your name. Thanks for the kind words and the compliments I greatly appreciate and God bless you as well and your family have a great day

Rub it with your hand. It’s going to get a little bit warm but it’ll get it off really pretty easy it’ll take you a little while but it’s like rubber glue when we were kids in kindergarten. If that makes sense Hopefully that’s helpful welcome to the channel were very happy to have you and that will make a terrific automobile for your 16-year-old

What do you think about something like s-18 glue in a can with brush vs a spray?
@grimairbrush Жыл бұрын
Any automotive glue try using thinners on a rag, wipe it over to soften the glue then either use your hand to wipe it off or rub it with the rag, the glue comes right off, works best with cloth stuck to plastic door trims.

7:20 I've been looking for a good way to do this part. It's unfortunate that there isn't a better way to do this. I wonder how the original manufacturer installed the fabric?

Really sorry about that Matt I try to do that because I love that type of stuff it’s really helpful when I’m around people that I don’t know I have something to talk about.... And it’s also to help with video retention because that’s how you tubers make money most people will watch 10 seconds of a video and then turn it off and you don’t make any money and it actually hurts your channel. Algorithms so I do that for this reason entirely I’m sorry for the distraction but hopefully you find it fun or entertaining and you can use that other information some other time in life lol Thank you very much for the like and sub I greatly appreciate it . Even though I will tell you just in case you don’t already know subscribers have nothing to do with how much money you make on KZbin. It’s very interesting that it works that way

An easy option for removing the adhesive is to use an Oxo dish scrubbing brush with a bit of water and dish soap. Not as dramatic as his options but faster and more efficient. I let surfaces dry completely before doing the adhesive.

I don’t know what taking off the Dorr panel would’ve accomplished that I didn’t accomplish. I couldn’t personally see it being any better in this particular situation.
