2007 Aprilia RSV1000 bad immobilizer unit, runs with key off

Immobilizer light is staying on when unit is turned off. Engine will continue to run after key is turned off. Engine has to be turned off by using kill switch. I am an aprilia technician uploading this video for review by my district service representative. The advice that I was given was to unplug the immobilizer unit, which was located behind the left mid fairing, and start the unit to test the immobilizer unit function. After unplugging the immobilizer unit the machine operated normally. Solution to the problem was to replace the immobilizer unit. By that logic the immobilizer unit could, theoretically, be unplugged and used normally like a dirtbike with the kill switch unplugged. This theory was not tested as the customer chose to replace the immobilizer unit to properly repair the problem.

Notice that when I first cycle the key the immobilizer light stays on. After I start the bike the key can be turned to the off position and the bike continues to run while all of the dashboard electrical power is off. The idle is also eratic. Turns out that the immobilizer unit had failed. Replaced and fixed the issue.

can you just replace an immobilise or do you have to reprogram keys?

Did you fix this yourself or dealer? was this a dealer part or purchased elsewhere?

I work at a dealer. We replaced the immobilizer unit which was located behind the left fairing. Later models have the immobilizer unit made into the ECM.

@@dorkodestrukto Hey man I've got an 07 tuono. Bike runs and starts fine but I have NO lights on the dash and the headlights are extremely weak. Tacho works, but no screen or lights. Any tips?

@@stustockwell I'd check the connector between the main harness and the front harness for any green corrosion or weak terminals. It's a good place to start and I think it would be more likely to see something like that than any kind of controller issue if everything else is working ok.
