It'll still happen. I've seen them do it. And you can keep it going, it just requires some pedaling. As long as it doesn't shift, it will burn them till you hit metal.

I will say that a SS impala can get a stock cobalt on the top in, but I don't think it can beat it on the initial acceleration.

5.3L/0.016387064 = 323.4258 so a normal 5.3L is 323ci. Sometimes auto manufacturers round up to a certain number. Back in the old days Ford used to make 5.8L engines because 5.7L engines weren't exactly 350ci (they were 347ci, but 350 when rounded). The 5.8L engines translated to 354ci (rounded). A 327ci block is actually 5.35L which they would have rounded to 5.4L. GM's official rating is 325ci/5.325L (325.1ci/5.328 L) for the SS.

trust me, i totally agree with everyone when they say that rwd is better for racing purposes/sporty driving. i just like fwd cause i can drive mine whenever; good or bad weather. also, i usually don't turn corners at 90 mph so the ebrake thing doesn't apply to me lol :) but for someone who is oober into drag racing, than it does...

if you do have a gto, think about what ur comparing: 6.0L vs 5.3L 400hp vs 303hp 5/6 speed vs 4speed rwd/fwd End Result 4.8sec vs 5.6sec The fact that the impala does only .8 sec slower than a gto isn't bad considering what it's up against...

@Membrane556 It doesn't really matter where an engine makes it's power, it just matters how much and over how wide of an rpm range. The Nissan Altima 3.5 SE is a low 14 second car and it doesn't even make 300 hp. The V6 powered Accord, Camry, etc are also 14 second cars.

@worldofwilfred They only did it so it wouldn't suck in the winter time, they still want the impala to be practical for the regular people, its not a muscle car by any means so it doesnt need rwd.

They almost the same. The LS4 has an aluminum block and has ls6 heads and a slightly shorter crankshaft because the engine was modded for transversal mount.Maybe the ls4 won't have LIM gasket problems as the vortec 5.3 are prone to have.

0-60 in 5.3 and a quarter mile in 14.2 with good tires, actually faster than I thought it would be especially since it's so heavy, even faster than the new Maxima, base Charger, base Camaro, and Scion/Subaru FR-S/BRZ.

@idontcare80 Where in the power band the engine makes power is just as important as how much power it makes. An engine that has a lot of low end of torque and a wide power band will generally out perform an engine in a car of the same mass with similar output but with a narrow high rpm power band. These run mid 14's stock not bad for a FWD car with an automatic. It does not take much to get one down to 12s which means be able beat 370Zs.

@jwippel Ha Ha - the same holds true for a .44 mag. The only real difference between mags and specials is the length of the empty shells. The mags are app 1-2 mm taller ergo more powder. And kick. .380 is a 9mm in a shorter shell. 10mm is .40.

@azfiandazfar The 3.4L won't do a good burnout, but if you turn the trac off and punch it, it will squeal the tires a bit. I do it in my 04 with a 3.4L, especially at the Autocross events. You can probably apply a bit of brake, and try to get it to make some smoke, but the 3.4L isn't as powerful as the other engines GM put in the Impalas.

@Toxicmatrix You have explained the reason the model exists. Who would want a FWD v8 for year round seasonal use? All policing agencies throughout the country in any capacity, including federal. Large FWD cars ride nice and a light v8 puts more zip into it. It is the only other car made for that niche - the Ford Crown Vic is the other. Cadillac has made big FWD v8 cars for years.
@cheezgrated
@cheezgrated 13 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't understand what the BFD about RWD vs. FWD is for a daily driver. You still have to be smart with the gas pedal if you have a powerful engine hooked up to either. Otherwise, you're still hitting that lamp post. The only difference is whether you're caving in the hood or the rear doors.
@sideburns2009
@sideburns2009 16 жыл бұрын
I was saying the same thing. I wouldn't want a V8 FWD and this car looks nice but it doesnt have the mean V8 look to it. Thats why I'd prefer a challenger srt8 with a trimec6060and 6.1 hemi. They look very mean.

@Joseph9536 "E" as in emergency/parking brake? You can't do a burnout with the parking brake on as it basically locks your rear brakes, the ones that are doing the burnout. Most people power brake, which is holding the brakes while holding the gas down. The best burnouts are done using line locks but that's a lot of trouble to go through just to make tire smoke. The real way to do it is to have enough horsepower to turn the tires with the gas pedal only.

Sorry, that was a typo, G8GXP is 0-60 in 4.9 1/4 mile in 12.9. Well, the LS4 is actually newer then the LS1 but either way there both LS series. Ofcourse the interior in the G8 or 4 door GTO whatever you want to call it happens to be better quality than the Impala, Impala in comparison to its Rivals isnt behind, Impala in comparison with its own company GM which has recently raised the bar, is behind.

So, for all those people who want to "piss all over the FWD V8", 1) if a PORSCHE uses an "over the drive wheels" engine design, why is this Impala sooo much different? Just because its over the BACK wheels (which, by the way, causes an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS "pendulum" effect if you break the car loose), and 2)Because the weight distribution for the Impala is 62/38 front-to-rear, as opposed to the Porsche's more "50-50" design, doesn't the weight over the front steering-wheels make the car safer?

So, then, please enlighten me as to whether or not it is in fact the 50/50 split that makes the difference (which is primarily for handling sake), *or* the fact that the engine can sit WHEREVER so long as you accommodate the weight distribution. As Porsche does.
