Granted I live in a warm climate and it’s 2wd so no off road but it’s doing good for it’s age and does it’s fair share of towing and hauling with no major issues like what you have. Just have to tap the steering column to get the windshield wiper to work and the trans temp light comes on but otherwise no issues like on the Chevy, hope it can be saved

I''m a chevy tech and I can tell you that the headlight connector melting is extremely common. I saw it on plenty of trucks, suburbans, tahoes, pretty much any full size truck chassis vehicle. The daytime running lights, which obviously run in the day time (you know, when its hot), get hot from the excess heat and melt.

Have a 2010 f-150 I bought from my dad. Has 205,000+ miles... changed spark plugs due to a serious misfire issue found out it was still running original plugs:/ changed rear diff fluid, and installed a new driveshaft after my hanger bearing blew to bits. Otherwise been a sexy, awesome truck that I have so many memories of. Only appearance mod is a window sticker... might change that with some fx4 head and tail lights, maybe an exhaust but that's all I would want.

I own a 2009 Silverado with the 5.3 motor and I cannot say anything bad about it even after 160 k of hard use. It’s something about these year of Silverado trucks that looks and feels great to drive. I think that it’s not too sophisticated but it’s functional. I feel that the new trucks are too busy looking and don’t feel as fun to drive as the 07-13 however that’s just my opinion. I will soon be leveling the truck with Bilstein struts to match the rear shocks to fit 33’s. I love the video and hope to see more like it in the future keep it up my friend :-)
@FuzzyDiceProjects6 жыл бұрын
Cool! Just a warning about fitting 33's, I left the rear height alone and used the spacers on the front (got an extra 1.5-2"), but because of the offset of the Mickey Thompson Classics, they rub on the steel at the rear of the fenders when turning. I bet it would be okay (barely) with a more stock offset, or maybe on a Z71, but expect that they might rub a bit! Most of the research I did before going with those tires said they would fit fine, but that wasn't quite my experience. Hope everything works out for you!

07-13 chevys were the "Bankruptcy" Gen of chevy trucks. I had an 09' with the 4.8l. I cant tell you how many thousands of dollars of parts I had to put into that truck between 65k-100k miles. Massive list of electrical issues. (powerlocks, radio (2x), and many others) Fuel pump control module. 2x- 4L60E rebuilds. (planetarys ate themselves) Entire front suspension rebuild. (CV axles twice, bushings were whooped in control arms,) I had to replace the EVAP purge valve atleast 3 times. I did all the work except the transmission. One thing I loved about that truck was the engine. Plenty of power, and incredibly reliable. Any fullsize vehicle with a 4L60e needs to have a serious cooler in the system. I could not haul or tow anything without those trans temps climbing to 215+F on the regular.

Wheel bearings and ball joints are pretty common wear items on those trucks, I would say the bigger tires had more of an impact then going through all the water. But its good to see you actually use it as a truck not a jacked up pavement princess like other people.... Looking forward to seeing the upcoming vids! PS. Thats a pretty typical low optioned work truck, the government around here had lots like that back in the day.
@FuzzyDiceProjects6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that PS! I always assumed as much. I can't seem to get ball joints with boots that don't disintegrate after a few years, so the water definitely got into them and rusted them to hell. You're probably right about the wheel bearings, and driving on the bad ball joints didn't do the bearings any favors!

I can wait to watch you tear the trans apart me and my dad are gonna have to take that trans mission out of our Widow Maker(2000 Cadillac Escalade) and rebuild it. I am 13 almost 14 year old and i have helped work on or work on cars my self sence i could walk(around that time i only helped get tools for him). So know how to do this is one of the only thing i need to know when i get the truck, and i can't wait. Soon, i will have to be the one who does the work on my familys cars due to my dads health declining. Which trans missions are more or less the last thing i need to know. Luck for me, our 2005 GMC Yukon has a 4L60E in it too so... thats helpful so if there is an issue, i can take care of it. And during the past winter my mom wrecked the Yukon, her and my brother was alright and the Yukon had only a broken mirror, majorly dented finders(thankful not ripped or anything like that) and quarter panels, dented hood and passenger hood. The truck was drivable and didn't have any bent framework, but it was totaled out. Even so, we still are able to drive it, and we do. With you adding videos like that, that can help me alot.

At 7:19, it's a loose connection. When wiring isn't properly secured together, the electricity will "arc." The light will continue to work, but every time you use it, the electricity will arc and burn a little bit more of the material off. As more material that get's burned off, the worst the arcing gets, it becomes hotter, and more severe, (this is how electrical fire's happen). This is also why some electrician's are almost OCD about how organized their wiring is.
@FuzzyDiceProjects6 жыл бұрын
Ah, good point! Experienced something similar with the S10 Blazer and a fuse, though it hasn't been shown in a video yet. It is strange that the reports I read online said it is only an issue with the passenger side connector though, not sure why it would only happen on the one side. Maybe the wire loom isn't as well secured on that side or something.
@paulklein57636 жыл бұрын
I do find it interesting that it is just that one side as well, I'm not sure if that has more to do with stock quality control, but the ceramic one should hold up better! Just check it every now and again and make sure the arcing doesn't start back up. P.S. I just found this channel a week ago and I've already watched through the entire S10 playlist, I've loved all of these build's! Keep up the good work!

@FuzzyDiceProjects6 жыл бұрын
The wheels are Mickey Thompson Classic III's, 17x9" with a 4.5" backspacing. They rub fairly badly when turning even with the cut front end and leveling kit unfortunately. I wouldn't do the cab lights again given the chance, though they haven't given me too much trouble. The cheap aftermarket lenses do leak and I haven't managed to stop that, but some RTV on the mounting screws and wires going through the roof has kept it from becoming a problem so far.
@stewpuddy41616 жыл бұрын
I plan on using LOTS of rtv!
@FuzzyDiceProjects6 жыл бұрын
@@stewpuddy4161 Good idea lol. Best advice I can give is to take a lot of time positioning them how you want before drilling anything. Use painters tape on the roof and mark positions and holes to drill, measure to make sure everything is straight and triple check that they are where you want them. A good idea to take a paintbrush and paint the bare steel after drilling and before applying RTV, too. I ended up using different (stainless) sheet metal screws and rubber washers under the heads to try to help them seal. And don't over-tighten the lenses, just snug, I cracked one of them a bit the third or fourth time I reinstalled it.

I had a similar problem with my k5 blazer. It is a transfer case issue. The plastic guides wear out on the synchros and the transfer case tries to shift out of gear. Mine would do it when I came to a stop to fast. It would try to shift into four wheel dive.
@FuzzyDiceProjects6 жыл бұрын
Yep, it did turn out to be a transfer case issue, it will be covered in future episodes. Rebuilt the trans while it was out and then the transfer case as well. The plastic guides failed but so did the rear bearing which allowed the shaft to walk forward, not sure which came first though.

*sounds to me like you got your money's worth out of t hat poor truck already. but wait there's more! depending on how much you really do love the truck, dumping a little more into the trans repair (hopefully you got the upgraded and stronger internals) and give that transfer case a good overhaul while you're at it and you should be able to get twice the use out of the truck that you have so far. i've loved every chevrolet i've ever warmed the seat of because to me if it cranked up without any issues, that was always the unspoken bond between me and the truck, that mutual agreement that i wouldn't try to kill it and it would always get me back home safely again. i've always developed those special bonds with my vehicles and with GM it's just always been easy to grow comfortable knowing that while things may happen from time to time, the GM trucks are always the ones you stand the best chance of completing your journey the safest and cheapest with and there's something to be said for that kind of dependability, peace of mind and security. Not so sure with the newer trucks that security and peace of mind will remain though being that they are now merely copies of Ford trucks*

It's a fleet package. Chevy has a few of those that you as a regular person can't get new at the Dealer. Pretty much the only way you'll find them is used. My Ranger is kind of similar, although Ford does make their fleet packages available to the general public if you ask for it specifically. The problem is the cost savings are so miniscule for a single truck that it's usually not worth it, unless you're a fleet company buying in bulk. Or a weirdo like me that would buy manual locks and crank windows even if it cost the same or more.

Dude my truck is the exact same. Mines blue granite. 07 4.8 manual windows, ext cab, 6 foot bed but I have carpet floors. Which is weird and the tailgate says LS but it’s a WT so it has some LS features so it’s a special order
