I think the era of buying cheap old trucks is slowly coming to an end. You used to be able to buy old trucks pretty cheap, but new trucks are so expensive, that sellers wised up, and they want a crap load of money for their old trucks now. The good thing is, that they are still way cheaper than a new truck, but they are not cheap like they used to be.

Hi there!! I write to you from Northern Italy and I have loved watching your video!! I relate to so many of the things you have said!! In Italy, pickup trucks are not as popular as in the US because they are rather expensive to own (crazy Italian rules and regulations), so the Italian equivalent of the pickup truck as a work horse for personal use is the classic station wagon!! My main ride has always been a model you've never had in the States, a 1996 Fiat Tempra SW, which has an incredible cargo space!! I have done crazy things with her and still do a lot of works including gardening, carrying house furniture and car parts!! Perfectly in line with your philosophy, my car has no ABS, no invasive electronic sensors and no annoying "dinging"!! From a mechanical point of view, I do most of the work by myself because everything is accessible and I only leave the most complicated stuff to my mechanic, who LOVES my car because there are no major complications whenever he has to take on the job!! Funny note, that thing of the seat belt, my Tempra doesn't ding when I drive without it (which I only do for brief moments when moving at low speed)!! In every other vehicle I drive, when the reminder goes off, I plug the passenger seatbelt to the driver's side because I freaking hate it!!! XD That sound, even for a few seconds, drives me mad!!! I lived in Utah some years ago so I had the luck of driving some American pickup trucks as well!! Crazily enough, I drove a circa 1980 Dodge RAM pretty similar to yours, albeit in a much worse condition!! It was super fun anyway because it had no power steering, no electronic crap and it drove on the side of a huge crater in the Utah desert as if it was a picnic ride!! It was such a memorable experience with one of my dearest American friends!! So, I am very lucky to say that I have experienced the best of both worlds, the European and American universe!! This video has made me smile so much and I congratulate you for your Dodge truck because it looks GORGEOUS!!! I really love it!!! Best regards to you from Varese, Northern Italy!! Gabriele

I can get behind what you are saying to a point. Problem is people that buy these old trucks, and slam them to the ground and do an LS conversion on an old truck. I’m not saying it is wrong or they should not do it, as it’s their truck to do with as they please. But when you do all that to an old truck, you are taking any usefulness of having an old work truck out of the reason to have an old work truck. And that’s to prevent having to use and abuse your brand new $80,000 truck sitting in your drive way. But my hats off to those guy’s who buy them and restore them, as they deserve to be kept around.

Am out in SE Idaho. Recently picked up a 1980 K20 for $1800. There are still good deals out there on old trucks, especially if you can make a drive to an agricultural area. This was an old farm truck which also has bad brakes and needs a lot of TLC, but an old truck of most any sort is an investment. Yes, as folks find out about a new investment opportunity, the cost to get into the investment will go up. But that doesn't change that these vehicles are a good investment due to the utility offered when properly maintained. Bonus points for the manual transmissions being a theft deterrent in an era where folks can't even make it a whole day without smart phones. XD

The old dodges are very under rated. I have a 92 I’ve been riding around in since I was 12 years old. My friend’s dad owned it. After years of trying I finally ended up with it myself. The 318 in it doesn’t have a lot of power. However it’s been incredibly reliable over the years. If it wasn’t for my business and its needs for heavy duty modern truck demands. It would be my absolute go to. Perfect for home owner diy projects and small acreage properties. Cheap to purchase, cheap insurance, cheap to maintain.

I've had old trucks and new trucks I've gotten rid of the new trucks went back to older ones now to use and enjoy. Bought a 1975 GMC K15 4x4 for less than $3000. Great truck and way cheaper than any new GMC today.

I used to have a 1974 D200 heavy 3/4 ton camper special crewcab 2 wheel drive. It had dual tanks on it. It rusted out in the cab roof just above the sun visors. The speedo needle would flop around like a wet noodle. It had a drain plug in the torque converter. I miss that truck.

This is like an adventure channel ! Adventure to the tool store. Adventure to the garbage dump ! Yes, old trucks are beautiful !

I have my Dad's 1987 Power Ram 150 4x4. Will pass it on to my son. 109,000 miles. No problems. It does get compliments. I also have a 2004 Ford Super Duty. Been through a new transmission at 124,000 miles. Now the alternators shot. I like the Dodge cause it's easy to change parts yourself.

I bought my neighbors 1997 chevy 1500 for $2,000 last year. Her husband passed away and she wanted to start selling everything she won't use. It has over 200,000 miles on it but the engine runs great. It needs steering components replaced, a new windshield/fixed and a few other things. It also needs a new bed as the current 8ft bed has rusted holes through it. I have a coworker who said he can give me one though! I plan on fixing it up this year to keep long term.

I got a 2003 work truck (Silverado 1500 4.8L) a couple weeks back for $400 from a friend that wasn't running... I changed the fuel pump for $143 and it runs perfectly fine now. Not 1970s, but highly recommend a simple vehicle. They just last!

The main issue with vehicles 15 years and older is finding parts. It was a guy that couldn’t find a valve cover gasket for 86 Chevy Cavalier so he had to get rid of the car.

I love my old trucks. Back in February I bought back a 96 Chevy Silverado that I sold to a friend 12 years ago. It was in really bad shape from neglect, but after a ton of work and money it's back on the road. Although I did spend a fair amount on it, it was still tens of thousands less than buying a new truck. As a hint for your Toyotas, if you really want to hear less dinging from them, get a higher end scan tool, like Xtool, so you can turn those features off.

Interesting! I might look into that. Not an issue with the 4Runner, but the Tacoma can be very annoying.

Nice truck. Don't overlook one of the best features....wing windows! My wife and I sure enjoy our '95 Ford F250 LB, 4x4, Powerstroke...with wing windows! And no, we don't smoke; just nice to roll with a grip on that pillar. Thanks for your video. Xlnt reasons to own one.😊

I still have my 2000 Dodge 2500 4x4 SPORT (ext cab short bed, Gen 2 Cummins). It’s not quite as old as probably some people are considering (but these are basically just good ole trucks). I nearly traded it in about 3 different times on my newer replacements always Dodge RAM or JEEPs There is no place or time, I still won’t jump in it and go. I have had it so long now, that friends & family still ask if “the Goat” is still around and running? It’s become an icon (or extension of me) that reaches from right before college till now, so there are so many memories & even pics of it @ high school graduation, my dogs in it, out at the farm working it hauling hay, at the lake, building stuff, and yeah even me passed out “asleep” 😂😂😖 in the bed… out in the middle of no where bonfires. Yep, newer trucks are great, but yep they ding, lock you in, have all sorts of issues with the technology glitches… 😰🤮. I have a newish Power Wagon it’s great but I’m just as likely (as with all the prior replacements) to go jump in “the goat” & roll. I just did it unexpectedly at Thanksgiving… I guess everyone will see my newest truck at Christmas or next year… It still looks good, runs good, gets excellent fuel mileage for a big ole diesel (about 17 average). It’s still mostly stock, (different exhaust, turbo, tune, but no lift kit, no huge wheels, & at this point… that’s probably what makes it stand out because it’s not all modified & crazy looking. Plus, I have gave it a very good life. It still has its original paint & even the cool 4corners Dodge/Jeep, Farmington, NM. dealer emblem on the tailgate. I plan on “the now old goat” being around for a long time to come. 👍😖

Thats a sweet truck. Ya, i agree old trucks are much better than new ones. Cheaper to repair and maintain as well. God i hate the dinging bells on new vehicles!

I love your truck! But I love mine too. It's a 1989 Chevy C 1500 with a 305 engine, Cheyenne trim level. I picked it up for $ 1,100 CDN. To be honest though, I spent a lot of money on parts and a lot of time in the driveway. But this truck now works really well and people constantly ask if it's for sale. You probably know the answer to that 😉

Cool little fact. The friend I bought it from and I have an agreement that if I ever want to sell it I need to offer it to him first.

I absolutely love old Dodge Rams in the Cummins variety and my wife even bought one. I noticed in your video you replaced the underhood insulation with something that said “Dodge”, were did you find that?

I fixed up a 1959 Dodge W300 Power Wagon. It was a one ton. Had a 10,000 # PTO winch on the front. Had the famous Flathead six. I turned it into a portable welding rig. I enjoyed it very much. There was a solidness about it. I have a '65 F100 now. Turned it into a portable welding rig too. It is a 2WD, I put a 8,000 electric winch on the front bumper. It is good truck...only half a truck compared the the Power Wagon. I am running the 300 cubic inch six. That is one bad engine. This F100 has been my pal since 12/23/82. The older trucks are great for many reasons...one I like...there are no foreign metriq bolt sizes.
