I absolutely love this video. My Mom died two weeks before her beloved 2007 Daytona 500 and was a Harvick fan due to Dale's influence. For those who think that racing is NOT a sport, you're quite wrong. The stamina and mentality alone makes it a sport, and even more importantly the unseen members of the team.

I'm so glad this is still on YT. It reminds just how much is going on in a superspeedway race. When you watch it on TV it just doesn't look as intense as it does from the perspective of the driver. Constantly changing throttle input, cars dancing all around you, constantly bumping and getting bumped in a car that you have to turn to the right to go straight. I only wish it was shorter. 500 miles every weekend is a little much.

Matthew Kowal it was actually two U shape pipes welded together at the center of the bends, kinda like an x pipe. a friend of mine named Mark Giles used to be the fan guy for Morgan McClure motor sports back on the 90's when they won Daytona a lot. that team was the pioneers of that sound. search "mark Giles camaro" on KZbin and you'll see s video of his car on a TV show with that exact sound.

Also, this was the final Cup race that my late maternal grandfather saw before he passed away on March 1st, 2007. Even though he was still alive when they got to ACS of CA for the second race of the year, he didn't watch that race, and died the Thursday after during the off weekend between ACS of CA and Las Vegas. He said what a finish, and having a finish like that as the last race you saw in your life, that's how I want to go. What's weird is that he died on 3/1/07 and Matt Kenseth won ACS of CA a few days before, and Kenseth was born on 3/10/72. The first four digits in his abbreviated birthday match the date of my grandfather's passing!

Im going to be honest and say. I always thought this was racing for weenies, and that it never looked that difficult to do. BUT, Im now going to say RESPECT! It takes skill to keep this car in the direction you want it to go. Can anybody offer some insight as to what speeds these cars are doing? Whats the engine rpm's on these? Flippen awesome!
@Buynot5 жыл бұрын
Not sure what the RPMs were like on the Gen 4 cars, but on super speedways, they were doing anywhere between 180 and 195 MPH. Today the cars are in the 205-206 MPH range. The engines don't run at full power at Daytona or Talladega. Since 1988 restrictor plates (a plate that reduces airflow to the engine) are used to slow the cars down after Bobby Allison went into the catchfence at 212 MPH in 1987. In 2019, restrictor plates were replaced with tapered spacers (essentially the same thing but weaker) and are now used at all tracks in an attempt to improve the racing quality (which was pretty hit or miss this year). Hope this helps!
