Excellent production. I earned my living for 25 years as a Ford drive-ability tech, so I installed more of these than I ever wanted to. Left the trade in '97 and at 70 years old now there are some holes in my memory and of course lots of things have changed over the years. Your video took an hour off my R&R time and so grateful for that. Good job!

As a 32 year college teacher, I have to chuckle at what a natural teacher you are. About half or more of the peers I taught with could profit by watching you. Not that they would ever be as good, because they lacked the natural talent to begin with. Clear, complete explanation that flowed nicely. Well done for sure. Second time I have watched this. Ahh?---- Second regulator i have replaced! Thanks,

This is by far one of the best tutorial how to videos I have seen. I successfully installed a new regulator in the front driver's side of my 2011 Ford Expedition. Your instructions were perfect-I followed them to the tee and it took me about 2 hours-I purchased the part for $90 and saved $500 versus what the dealers wanted to do this work. Thank you VERY MUCH !

This is THE BEST instructional video I’ve ever seen !!! No sales pitch, no self-indulging bloviating, just detailed instruction that ANYBODY, and I mean ANYBODY, can follow (provided you have the basic tools needed). Took me about 1.5 hrs to complete the job, and that’s only because I would rewind the video when there was any part I didn’t understand the first time I saw it. Great job guys !!! Keep up the great work !!!

If you follow along you can do the repair too. I'm no serious car guy but do like doing my own work if possible. Watch this video a couple times and you CAN do the repair. Took me 2 hours.

Hey Brian. You are a life saver ! Great video. My 07 Expedition dropped a passenger window yesterday afternoon just hours before a major storm hit my area. (No longer have access to a garage.) Watching your video allowed me to remove a broken regulator assembly to gain access and grab the fallen window and tape it up before the rain swamped us. Late model vehicles sometimes scare me with the latest technology which is why I used to fancy my older toys like my 68' Mustang, 65' F250 and 72' F100 and my favorite, 59' F100. Toys closer to my age. They are easy like me. Thanks again for the great video. Very well done.

I just did my driver side this morning. We had the passenger side done last year, but damn, it was expensive. I thought I'd tackle this one myself. Thanks to your video, it was a success. Sort of.... After I had everything back together the inside door handle wasn't working right. After some head scratching and a little cussing, okay, a lot of cussing, my wife found that little tension spring thingy that goes around that pin in the handle at the edge of the flowerbed beside the drive way. The pin fell out while I was taking things apart, and I didn't notice the spring had fallen off too. After partially disassembling the door, putting the spring in, and reassembling it all, again, it all worked perfectly. Thank you. Liked & subscribed !

Thanks to your video I was able to disassemble the door, prop the window closed with a "frame" made from some 100 year old hardwood flooring my Mom had in the attic of her garage (did you know the groove in tongue-and-groove flooring fits the window glass exactly?) and make the drive home with no worries. Fed Ex just dropped off the new regulator so I'm off to the garage to apply the permanent solution. Thanks again!

@conorpsr6 жыл бұрын
It's almost like doing actual labor in a shop costs actual money! And not everyone knows how to do this work or has the tools to do it. Nor are they willing to blow a whole day learning to work on the window regulator of their car. It's fine if you can DIY, but there's no need to crap on professional mechanics. What do you think the customer vehicle in the video was? Book labor guide time is 1.3 hours for this job. So you are accusation that a mechanic would charge 2 or 3 hours is pretty unfounded, too.
@mikemd26972 жыл бұрын
@@conorpsr Apparently you have not watched Brian's other videos of Dealerships charging for repairs where the factory installed bolts/markings and factory sealant were never touched on "repairs" that the customer was charged for several hours of labor. Following his step-by-step video with excellent views and tips, if you have any level of mechanical ability with basic tools you can absolutely perform this repair. He even tells you the torque specs (in inch pounds...be very careful here) and the socket/torx sizes. Cannot stress enough to follow his tips....I almost bypassed getting a flashlight and ensuring the window was actually in the clamps. Glad I took the time and followed his advice because it was most definitely not! The clamps come with the screws installed...have to back them out just a bit and it slides easily into place. Great video! Thanks!

Bill Grund I'm counting on what you said Bill Grund and I agree about the video detail. I'm going to be extra careful to look with the flashlight and also follow all the other advice in addition to the well done video. I am going to confirm this is the problem tomorrow (Monday 6/9/2015 and then order the part on amazon. There are a few specific things that seem to go wrong on Ford Expeditions and this is one of them. I did well following another KZbin video on replacing the T in my Coolant Radiator Hose so I was inspired to tackle this problem next and this video and the remarks gives me the confidence I can do it. It's terrible how much they try to rip me off whenever I go into the autoshop, especially being a female. The last fix they wanted almost $500 at Ford dealership and it took me $6.99 to fix with a part from pep boys. Fortunately they can't computerize hoses and clips so that we can sometimes fix our own cars they put weak plastic or junky parts in they don't want to last so they can get us on the service costs

Thank you so much for this video and the link to the part. It took me about 2 hours for the whole job including my coffee break. The one thing I would tell people is to make sure the glass seats all the way down into the rubber holder (on both sides) on the regulator before you tighten the clamps down. It’s easy to believe it’s all the way in when it’s not. This is a straight forward job anyone can do you just have to take your time and think it through.

Thank You! I think this is exactly what is wrong with mine and I'm going to double check tomorrow and buy from the amazon link you gave. I just fixed my leaking Radiator/Coolant or whatever T hose by watching a youtube video and spend just $6.99 instead of the $480 Ford wanted and $350 my local mechanic wanted. I am handy around the house but never worked on cars until now. KZbin is awesome and I appreciate people like you sharing what you do. I'm thinking of shooting a video of when i do this if I can. I know when I followed the "4 minute hack" for my T hose I ran into problems they didn't mention in that video and there was a bit of a hint of that when I replayed the video I saw they cut off when they stuck a screw driver in the hose to deal with the problem I ended up having. I figure since that 4 minute hack took me about 1-2 hours as a novice I will do this on a Saturday so i don't have to worry about stalls and missing work. I will let everyone know how it worked out. I've watched the video twice and after double checking tomorrow will then order the part but I have the same exact problem and think it's this. Thank YOU!

You are correct the newer model you show has reliefs in the door panel to remove/install the regulator A LOT easier. My 2008 is a bear to get out and in. I also noticed the amazon link you had is the version without the panel. I ordered the complete regulator, panel, and motor. Here in COVID Oct 2021 with supply chain issues, I had to order two different brands - a seemingly better (more expensive) passenger side one and a cheaper driver side one. That's what was immediately available, I know the logic would be put the better one on the driver side since that gets the most use.

very good video!!! I just did mine and it took me almost 40 minutes from the time I take the tools out and the time everything is done! Maybe i would add a little something, my main problem was that one track of my original regulator had a rusty cable and maybe the little wheel at the bottom was also damaged by the water/rust, I would suggest to add some silicon lubricant on every componant that can receive it just to protect it better and make your job last longer. An other thing too I would tigth the bolts for the track when the window is all the way down because there is enough play in the little holes and if the window is all the way up well the tracks could be a little bit off and it will force through misaligned tracks. I did the test, I let the bottom bolts loose and when My window came down I saw the distance of the tracks closing a little bit so if the distance of the track is to big well the guide will use faster and you can also damage your equipment faster.

At 7:19, Brian points out how delicate that top retainer of the door handle is. The problem I found in ordering an Asian-made replacement regulator is that the door handle post(pivot point) is bigger on the bottom than the top, and the manufacturer of the replacement regulator I received made the hidden bottom hole as small as the hole for the top of the door handle post. If you aren't careful, and you won't notice that it is impossible to fit the bottom post into the bottom hole with drilling it out to the correct size. Instead, you think the end is in sight, and you add that extra little bit of pressure to force the top of the door post into the retainer, which will not happen if the bottom hole has not been checked and drilled out, so you break the top retainer instead, just like he said would happen. A fairly new super adhesive is Loctite HY 4070, which will hold when nothing else will, and cures in 5 to 7 minutes - I have glued my retainer back on, and added more of that adhesive, as insurance, after I put it back together. Asian-made regulators don't come with mounting bolts of any description - only the two 10mm bolts for the window clamps. Hope this tip helps somebody dealing with these replacement regulators.

On my fourth set of forward regulators. Drivers goes out first then the passenger front next 6-9 months later. It’s 2020 now and it’s a 2007 Expansion so every 4 years. this thing built like a tank on wheels. You got anything on the weather stripping on the door jams. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the video. In my case I only needed the first 3 minutes, I am going to install towing mirrors on our '14, just wanted to see how to get the door panel off.. after that, it's pretty easy and straight forward for what I need.

Great video, very easy and accurate. Used it to replace the driver side regulator on my 2010 Ford Expedition EL Limited and everything was exactly the same. Only weird thing is it won't go down by on auto and if you make it go auto up, as soon as it hits the top it goes back down 3 inches on its own.

Perry Ausbrooks You have vent shades in the window track? Otherwise pull up on the window switch and hold it for 3 seconds after it get to the top then roll down and hold 3 seconds same thing so the motor learns the upper and lower limits.

I’m about to try this on the drivers side of my 2010, same issue but mine is going about half way down after replacing my regulator. No vent shade. Thanks for the video.

Dude... THANK YOU. This video was very comprehensive and helped me save a ton of money by following your instructions and doing the work myself. I really appreciate the little tips and intricacies you point out. I found a replacement part on Amazon for $50. It worked great, just had to bore out the crash sensor holes a tad. Thank you!!!!
