07-17 Expedition Front Window Regulator Replacement + Lincoln Navigator

A Ford Expedition or Lincoln Navigator front window regulator replacement, applies to years 07-17. If your Expedition or Navigator window moves slowly or won't open or close at all, it's time to replace the regulator. The cables on the regulator are a week point, they crack and bunch up, and then the window regulator is bad. Another problem could be the window motor. The motor and regulator are separate pieces, so you don't need to replace the entire assembly; you can replace one or the other and transfer the good parts to the new part. If the window motor stops working then it's an easier fix, 3 bolts hold the motor to the regulator, unplug it, and bolt the new window motor on.

This is a GREAT how-to video. I followed his instructions closely and from start to finish it took me all of 1 hour and 12 minutes from start to finish. A buddy who worked at a Ford Dealership told me his techs take up to 2 hours to do this repair, maybe I should work for Ford😎!

Great video! Easy to follow easy instructions! I do have a question. My expedition has an auto button and when I go to raise my window up it reaches the top and then comes halfway down and he fixes anybody else running into this problem?

I have seen where you need to reprogram your window by holding the down button for 15 seconds when down all the way and then push the up button all the way to the top and hold for 16 seconds. But this doesn't work for me on my 2015 Navigator. Mine goes almost to the top and stops. If I pull the button it will continue to the top and stay but I can hear wind so it must not be all the way. Anyway this reprogram trick did not work for me.

I realize how old this post is, but I just replaced the regulator in my 07. The window goes down smoothly, but it is very slow and strained going up. Did I overtighten something or what can it be?

The tracks might need to be aligned better, 13:12, or you might be able to adjust the glass with the bolts that clamp the glass, I don't remember if the glass is adjustable from those points, but it sounds like the glass or something is misaligned and binding as it goes up.

The Dorman 749-542 works on the driver side of the 2011 era Navigator. I ordered the wrong one by accident on Amazon, and the rails were too short. Call out to my local Autozone, who had it IN STOCK for immediate pickup on a Saturday afternoon, instead of Tuesday night (if I was lucky) with Amazon!

Unbolt the window from the regulator if you can, or remove the motor and try to turn the cog by hand, or cut the cables if the cables are already damaged. Hopefully one of those would work

@@isidroprudente2830 If it's not attached to the regulator anymore the window will fall down. The regulator might be getting in the way of it going all the way down. Are you trying to replace the regulator?

a DIY Car Guy I’m done doing everything the windows is back on but when i click it up it comes back down a little and when I make it go all the way down it won’t go all the way down like it use too

For anyone else wondering, one cable pulls the window down, and another pulls it up. On my wife's car, the "up" cable rusted and snapped, the rusted solid inside the cable housing. I was going to replace both cables with bicycle cables for $10 or $15, but the plastic part of the window clips was cracked, so I replaced the whole thing. Honestly, I shouldn't have worried about those cracks because it is VERY tough plastic is not load bearing. Short answer: replace the broken cables, or cut the others and lift the window by hand. Then tape it until it falls anyway and and maybe breaks. Gorilla Duct tape works well, until the glue melts on a hot day. Guess how I know?
