2007 Grizzly 125 Starter Clutch Replacement

Thanks for video, just did my starter clutch on my son grizzly, it was a huge help thanks. For those reading for info on what might be wrong with your bike, the started motor works fine but only will start the bike every so often, the starter clutch is a $30 part on eBay it has spring which is over come when turned by the starter, over time it craps out. This video helped me identify that’s what was wrong with my bike. Got the part and was able to swap it over in a couple of hours. It’s so easy to think it’s the starter motor When it’s this cheeky part. Cheers again for helping others out.

So to replace the starter clutch that means you don't have to mess with the bearing at all right? Unless you're changing that gear?

This was the first person to talk about the washer that goes between the large gear and the one way starter clutch. I looked at the schematic. I was going crazy. Could not get the thing to work right. Watched this vid and THANK YOU very much. Got it right.

Great video. This engine looks exactly like the quad that Yamaha replaced with this it’s called Breeze 125. The engines look identical. Great video. I have parts ordered for the exact same job on my 03 Yamaha Breeze 125. Awesome quads 👍

Great video! If you freeze your bearings before you press them in they shrink enough to make pressing them in MUCH easier.

Idling too high will cause it to grind gears and not engage.

Took mine all apart and manual freed up the starter clutch and lubricated it. Haven't had any issues since

So does that mean you didn't have to mess with the bearing at all?

@@CovidFart I think I sprayed some lubricant but aside from freeing it up didn't do anything. Granted my machine had sat for years. If yours is regularly used it may need more attention. Just take it apart and check it out. They are pretty simple.

What exactly was wrong with the clutch? Since you started mid repair, I don't know what your symptoms were. My starter is spinning, but not engaging. Great vid btw.

My starter spins doesn't engage either. I'm still trying to get the case off. I can't figure out what's holding it on. Maybe one of those hidden screws that needs a super long driver?

Yea that would be the starter clutch not working correctly, you'll need to replace it

I had an 05 givin to me that starts and runs great but when you put it in gear it makes a grinding noise like the gears are grinding coming from the clutch case and it loses momentum as if the clutch or belt is slipping i pulled the cover and none of the gears seem to have any damage or markings and the belt seems fine so im curious if anyone else has experienced this or knows what the issue may be before I go buh another clutch just doing discovery work? Any input is much appreciated.

Hey i bought a grizzly 125 for cheap bc it wouldnt move so the nut on the sheave was loose and the washer with the hooks was ruined i was wondering if the sheave is suppose to have splines in it or a bearing it seems like something is missing on mine

is it normal for the idler gear to be wobbling around, or should it be snug and have little to no movement? mine is very loose and isnt engaging properly when i go to start it.

Wobbling no. Maybe a very little play in it but no wobbling. I’d replace that all together.

The starter clutch I purchased did not come with the bearing rings so I had to move from old to new. You don't need to replace the sheave (I broke mine) and the idler gear, but everything on mine was very worn and since I was in there anyways figured I'd just get it done. I do not know if the starter clutch is serviceable.
