Absolutely brilliant Scott. A real life vid of a real life problem. I couldn't stop watching! I recently did the head on my Kia Sorento diesel and have experienced those same frustrations and doubts; but also that amazing rush you get at the end when it all works. I am sure factory workshop notes are prepared in a lab far removed from the real workshop. They leave so much important info out, or assume you have all the hoist gear and special tools. Great to see a home garage workaround. Thanks to you... and your assistant.

davow8 I'm looking at buying a 2007 santa fe 2.2 diesel (very similar vehicle) that has a bad engine knock, probably due to lack of oil. I am having trouble finding any info on engine swaps or rebuild info anywhere. Are you a mechanic or did you find tutorial that helped you? Any info or resources that you could point me to would be much appreciated. Also what symptoms lead you to doing the head on your kia?

Great video. I bought the haynes manual and your video included allot more insight and detail about the process. For example the trans dip stick tube, steering column, and power steering are all absent in the book. Everything else is pretty much to the tee, however your starter removal method seems easier.

Very thorough video. I'm experiencing the same shudder symptoms. Have replaced wheel bearings, pads, rotors, passenger CV Axle, cleaned up the carbon on intake valves, replaced pcv valve, camshaft position sensor (was leaking oil), plugs and coils. Still has a shudder. Went to dealer they said it's torque converter and cracking motor mounts on my 2012 Sorento EX. No codes thought it was a misfire so had diagnosed for that.

Great video and information. I'm about to do one of these. My expertise is in rear wheel drive vehicles. When I install an automatic transmission I'll bolt the torque converter to the motor and position the two notches or flat spots at 3:00/9:00 positions. I'll will then align the pump tangs in the transmission at the same position. (20yrs no issues ever) at this point I'll get under the engine with transmission bolts on each side of me and I'll roll the transmission up on my stomach then pick it up an slide it on, it'll require a (little) lite right to left to right turning and it'll go right on. This is with 350 and 400 turbos mostly but have done it with ford 5r55s, 5r55w and the fmx transmissions. This way eliminates a big amount of weight due to the converter. I have a transmission jack but I can get it done way quicker the way I posted

On the side of the transmission there is a Black cover pan. Inside that pan are the actuators for the transmission gear selector and some circuit boards and pressure sensors. I am not an automatic transmission expert so you really need to ask Elsewhere for more detailed information.

I need to replace the solenoid and the speed sensors while I’m at it. Once I remove the air filter box and the tubes from the air filter is the front cover on the tranny be accessible? I just need to get off the cover and the solenoid and sensors are all right there. The mechanic I went to just threw on the computer didn’t even pop up the hood and said he would need to drop the whole tranny and it be a minimum of 1200 and I’m better off replacing it for 1500
@themarginalmechanic59284 жыл бұрын
You can get to the speed sensor with no problem. it's on the back side of the transmission. As for the solenoids just try taking the cover off. the worst case is you have to lower the engine cradle a little bit to get that access pan off.

Was it shooting any codes as a result of the bad conponent?
@kristopherhasenbuhler53936 жыл бұрын
Components don't throw codes. Units do! You only have two units unless it is a RWD,4wd, or an all wheel drive (Units) include Engines & Transmissions as well as transfer cases and rear differentials!!! "components" on the other include Starter Alternator water pump fuel pump AC compressor Power steering pump ext!
@kristopherhasenbuhler53936 жыл бұрын
In addition to that is not the unit itself that throws the codes it is the sensor attached to the unit for monitoring purposes that throw the codes!
