hell yeah. was gifted a 2.3l sedan with 153k miles, put a different trans in for about 2300 and did some simple fluid changes and brakes and whatnot, thing runs like a top for under 3 grand. couldnt be happier with my mazda

Depends on the year of the golf, for the years of this Mazda 3. There’s the mk4 golf n the 5. Depends on a lot of factors. The golf more solid driving, mk4 interior is cheap and basic compared to the 3 but the mk5 isn’t. Personally I’d only buy a Mazda 3 over the golf of either generation if the golf is a 2.0L. It’s just too slow, If I were to buy a Mazda 3 I’d try to get the 2.0L model for reliability you won’t miss the 5hp. Now if the golf is a 2.5 5 cylinder, in my personal opinion that’s the best over all option. But really it’s just preference, there’s not a big enough difference, they’re generally the same size, roughly as fuel efficient as eachother and I mean they both rust out equally as bad if you live where they use salt in the winter, I’d just get the one you like more because they’re honestly both pretty well as good as eachother.
