If the 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series and 2007 BMW M6 could talk trash, things would get ugly in a hurry.
The big-bore Benz would snort something about its 465 pound-feet of grunt, the kind of power that would leave the Bimmer's flame-surfaced sheet metal in a smoldering pile on the road. The high-strung M6 would make a remark about the Benz's boy-racer fender flares, silly bodywork vents and decidedly uncivilized exhaust note.

that m6 had the SGM shift as well. the black clk is completely tuned. there is nothin else to do to bump up the performance..it even looks like the GTR version. imagine if the m6 sportscar is half as tuned as the black clk (race version)!! m6 wins hands down

2008 BMW M3 - 60-0mph brake does it in 98ft, skid-pad 0.95g, slalom 73.3mph. Its $ 54,000 msrp is less than half of the Mercedes and gets better numbers. Compare them. The Merc brakes longer, slalom slower, and grip is .01g better than the M3.

@planchik You have no idea what you're talking about. The Merc AMG cars are designed to compete with BMW M cars. Small amount of performance? How about double the power and torque with significant modifications to the chassis and brakes? In straight line performance alone, a C63 AMG will beat an M3 and keep up with an M5. The AMG engine makes more power but BMW counters with better handling. Black series is another step beyond that with even more power and weight savings.

it is highly unlikely that mercedes would copy bmw's interior... it is true that bmw started iDRIVE tech... ok, let me ask, who started ABS system in cars? and the interior design of the new S500 is totally diff from 745. S500's dashboard is far simpler, neater and luxurious... i've driven both merce and bmw... bmw focuses on performance while merce focuses on comfort, safety, style. both merce and bmw are good carmakers... it's just that i always have a soft spot for mercedes that's all...

This is a silly comparison really... This is a Mercedes-Benz CLK63 "BLACK-SERIES".. not your regular benz... this merc is completely performance orientated!!! Until BMW release a "completely performance orientated" vehicle, like another CSL.. The M6's more suitable competitor would be the regular CLK63 or a CL63. Simple as that.. It'd be wonderful if BMW released a M6 CSL... that'd be the day, until then the black-series is better tested side by side with the E36 M3 CSL.

But since Daimler was a bit too Germanic, they used Mercedes instead hence Mercedes-Benz in 1926. Since then, the company has expanded acquiring other companies like Steyr Magna and Puch,etc. So then they decided to manage all their subsidiaries under one umbrella brand Daimler AG. But Mercedes-Benz is the one true original brand.

The 8 Series supercar offered the first V-12 engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox on a road car. This was in the late 80s until late 90s. On another note, the SLR and the SLS are NOT supercars. They are GT class cars like the M6. Mclaren has used both BMW and Mercedes engines to build their supercars, but Mercedes-Benz has NEVER had a supercar.

@vili567 BMWs are known for having a Clutch Delay Valve that slows clutch engagement and is a common upgrade for those that choose. The part is under 50$. I'd modify a manual before I'd ever buy an auto . The looks of the MB in my opinion is too racer boy for me. I'd prefer the subtle aggressive design of the M6. @legohalo99 really? i thought i tried as hard as i could to clear this up. reliability and longevity have nothing to do with each other. longevity has more to do with owners than anything. it's not my opinion that german cars are less reliable, every major automotive ranking organization shows german cars are the worst, you even saw for yourself. this reflects nothing in build quality etc., just that on average you spend more time at the dealership compared to almost everyone else.

@legohalo99 i don't know what you're looking at, i searched the top 100 of the last decade, before the spiral of top 3 german cars, and the first german car starts in at #25, not very good considering the premium they charge. and of 2010, the top 5 manufacturers for reliability include mercury, buick and lincoln, 3 american ones, others are japanese. and yes the german car makers may make a few good models, but half of their lineup is considered below average reliability, kind of bullshit.

@daddyjack18 Not true, I have 2 MB's. The C-Class stands for C-rappy construction and the E-Class stands for E-lectrical problems. The interior chrome has peeled, speaker grill and plastic woodgrain cracked. The seats creak. and I really like the superior plastic used in the headlights, the standard bulbs (P21W) generate too much heat and melt the sockets. The E-Class has seat control modules that kill the battery. That is superior in every Mercedes.

One of our estimators has now been head at the Mercedes body shop for 6 years, and we are #3 in our state. I do like Mercedes, but I would never say the build quality is better than BMW. I havent met anyone in the industry that would, honestly. Believe me though.. I would love to have an AMG Black, very much.

Some are arguing about what AMG is. AMG threathened to never put a badge on a Mercedes again until they were building the entire engines, suspension etc. That is when you saw the 6.2 Liter come in, which is badged as a 6.3 on the fenders. The reason AMG did this was because of Mercedes build quality not being what AMG required. An AMG is no longer a simple modified Mercedes Benz.

Almost every Benz is AMG & even had a 800+Bhp Barabus S600. Almost every BMW is M. New ZR1 Corvette, Porsches & the occasional Ferrari & Lamborghini. I have been in the automotve industry for 25 years now. We also have a body shop. So, I know the build quality. None of these brands meet the build quality of BMW.

Well what you're saying is understandable, but you have to consider that the M3 CSL has a 1300 lb weight advantage on SL65 Black. And even though it is the fault of Mercedes anyways for making the car so heavy, you're still comparing a Mercedes SL-class to a BMW 3-series, both of which are in completely different classes. It would simply make more sense to compare it to the CLK63 Black. But, if you're looking to compare it to Mercedes' top car, then look to the new SLS

This young man doing this video needs to leearn that the M6 is a Bimmer, not a Beemer... Beemer is a BMW motorcycle.... The new 2008-2009 Turbo Cobalt SS from Chevy out slaloms these two cars and is mid pack between these two in the skidpqad at 0.93 g....... Retune the cobalt turbo for $300 and 0-60 drops from 5.4 sec to 4.5 sec and the 1\4 drops from 13.9 sec @ 104 mph to 12.7 @ 111 mph I'll take the cobalt for it's German haritage and 25 mph city that I get though....

M3 CLS is BMW's fastest car on Nurburgring. SLR is Merc's fastest car on Nurburgring. SLR is faster than M3 CLS on Nurburgring. I know they are not even. I am comparing the two company's strength, I am talking about the brand image, not a specific car. BMW doesn't have a car to compare with SLR. What a about S65 AMG? S600 Brabus? SL 65 AMG BS? Actually it's street legal, which negates it being a racing car of any sort. I don't consider the 6 series a "touring" car... 5 series is a touring car to me, and I would pick the M5 over an M6. However an M3? I would gladly take one of those over the Black Series, I don't care if the Black Series is faster. The M3 is just gorgeous both E46 and E92 models, I would take one of those over the Black Series anyday.

the black series is just epic, forget comparing bmw to mercedes, they build different cars, different visions, bmw is a racer, it's a drivers car and only that, mercedes makes cars for when you just want to cruise and feel relaxed, sure the AMG black is much more expensive, but put it this way, you get the power and excitement of a racer and the refinement of a cruiser if you just want to take it slow, and that I think is enough to justify the price tag

I own a 650i and i eat cl63 for lunch. not many amg versions driving around because they are worthless once you drive them off the lot. BMW owns. and look at the craftsmanship over the benz. The benz is what $30k more it better have adjustable suspension for that much more. and you get some mexican fenders will holes that are not even functional.

About the SUV's, jeep, you know, the off road company? They make an SUV that's faster than any BMW/M.B. SUV.

the question is, what is the most difficult. A simple straight line accelration or circuit car? A car with or without compromises? What is the best? Everything is easy if you don't have limits. Look at X5, the first time they make a SUV and they overclass GM totaly. If ford makes a good durable car is is designed in Germany. (ford GT) Harley davidson the same story, fat and cool but is was a mechanical disaster. and if you think RZ1 is good, ckeck at the SLR 730 or ferari 599 GTB.

ok, let me explain something to you...anyone can pick their favorite aspect of a car and shine a light on it, aka be a babbbling moron like speeddeamon. Example: most Euro car fans always talk about "Hp/liter" or "luxury", American fans talk about "drag racing" and Japanese fans talk about "hp/L" and "gas mileage"...why? Yes and u must be kidding yourself or dreaming about the handling and weight of the m6. The m6 is not the best handler of the M series. Actually its horrible for an M car. You should driver an M3, now that is what BMW is all about the handles. As far as being faster off the line....Mercedes Benz is faster off the line and to the finish line. LoL, just to prove you are chasing and dreaming to be as great as Mercedes Benz. Last time BMW won a MAJOR GT race, was in 1989 in the DTM. Mercedes Benz has dominated BMW since. Mercedes Benz are the DEFENDING CHAMPIONS TODAY. No to mention the old GT-R circuit's in thlate 80's and mid 90's. Mercedes Benz DOMINATED that racing league SO MUCH, that the GT-R LEAGUE is no longer around because Mercedes Benz with its CLK MADE RACING History! Something BMW has never done, yet. Once again, Mercedes Benz tops BMW in every category. Oh ya to all you BMW owners that are still doubting this independent 3rd party evaluation. Mercedes Benz has more 1st place conductor and driver tropheys than BMW will ever have. If you look at the actually numbers, its ALARMINGLY amazing how many more 1st place finishes Mercedes Benz has over BMW from Formula 1 to CART. Nothing beats a Benz

what a fucked up test, a freakin clk dtm (might as well be) with a standard luxury sports coupe. and u merc owners think ur the shit. think about this. they had to get the best of the very very very best benzes to beat a stock m6...that speaks highly of u doesnt it? maybe thats y AMG in german sounds like "i emm ghey" BMW is always a more driver oriented vehicle. but what i love is allll that customizability, and its not that much faster at all...fuck benz BMW ftw lol

If BMW made a car that cost that much, in the same size and weight bracket, the BMW would kick ass. This car is on a chassis that is a competitor to the 3 series. The M6 is slower and heavier in every way, it's a completely different class of vehicle. Not to mention it is cheaper than the Merc. Don't get me wrong, that Merc is a beast and a hell of a car. But this comparison is bullshit.

i met one of the product managers for MBUSA and he was telling me about this Black Series line of cars way before they were officially announced and i was trying to imagine what they final product would look like. i must say im impressed. mercedes is good at producing beautiful and powerful cars but the only ones that are fun to drive cost well over 100,000. ill keep driving bmws they offer an unmatched level of excitement for far less money
