Hi Willem, great video! Indeed, if you had to go through all the specs of a CL it would take you the entire day but there are two points/specs that are crucial for ppl to know. 1, the CL is fully voice controlled, making it easier for the driver to control and navigate the computer system. 2, as an extra option you can opt to install an external hard drive that slides in at the CD/DVD opening for extra multimedia functions. The CL as well not only has mp3, CD and DVD capability but TV capabilities as well, ranging from SABC1,2,3,etv but as an extra as well, DSTV. My father has the CL63 AMG mansory 5.5L V8 that he shipped from Germany with all extras added as well as fingerprint scanners and a fridge at the back for the 2 passengers that holds 2 bottles of champagne and 2 glasses. The CL63 AMG is faster than the C63 AMG as well as the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo. Drag videos of the above mentioned are on KZbin as well. The CL is mostly compared to the Bentley Continental GT. Fun fact, the first CL was introduced in the 1990s, and was called the CL500 Lorinser.

Just bought a 2010 CL63. Love everything about it except the power steering wheel fluid started leaking on mine lol Hope it's an easy fix. I used to have an F12 BMW M6, it's a lot faster than the CL63 on paper. In fact, on paper the F12 M6 is even faster than the new S63 coupe. But when I actually drive the CL63, I feel that it's as fast as the M6. The CL63 is a lot more comfortable and better handling, it's really a fun car. If you want a faster car than this, you better get AMG GTS (which looks really ugly to me). Now I'm planning to keep this car for a long time.

Keep in mind there was a mid-life update from the naturally aspirated 6.2 liter M156 to the turbocharged 5.5 liter M157. You owe it to yourself to test drive both types - there is a distinct difference between the two. I passed on the M157 due to a slight "rubber-band" effect when mashing the throttle and obtaining full boost. Throttle response on the M156 is instantaneous, and it revs a bit higher (7,200 RPM). Also, the M156 was unique in that it was an in-house AMG design and not derived from an existing MB engine, like the M157 and subsequent AMG engines. The downside to the M156 is a problem with the original style head bolts cracking and allowing coolant to leak into the combustion cylinders. There's a lot of information on the Internet regarding the symptoms and DIY fixes. Common to both is properly maintaining the ABC hydraulic system, which can be difficult for a DIYer to fix, and expensive. Other than that, the W216 AMG is fairly reliable, very unique, and a blast to drive.
@Veryperceptivecat4 жыл бұрын
@@zf4hp24 I test drove the M157 variant about a month ago and also decided to pass on it exactly for that reason. Until the boost kicked in the engine felt mute and blunt, while the M156 felt special even on idle. I share your opinion on the uniqueness of the in-house design of the M156 vs its replacement. Since I'm based in Europe I'm hunting for Japan-imported examples of the M156 CL63 which have extremely low miles (usually under 40k miles) and interesting configurations (OEM carbon, designo leather, black headliners etc).

I truly enjoyed your review. You brought up the pillarless design of these cars. I have a 2003 CL 55 AMG and it is my dream car. This is the same car that was built to be the Formula 1 safety car. As such Mercedes only built 55 of those beauties. While they were my dream car, there was not a chance I would be able to buy one due to the rarity. However, I did find my aforementioned, 2003 CL 55 AMG. The car has a 5.4 liter, supercharged V8, pushing out nearly 500 horsepower and 516 ft-lbs. Aside from being the most technically advanced car of its time, that I won't list here, but that's something you are welcome to seek out yourself. This car is a monster. It plants you in the leather seat firmly, which is so much fun for a mmiddle-aged age guy. So, if you own one, please take the time to drive this car hard. They seem to have as much fun as you do when you apply the loud pedal firmly, you then hold on and have fun. These are great cars. Luxury, power, and reliability too. If I wished for more from my daily driver, I can't think of a bloody thing I'd want in a car. Not one more bloody thing is necessary to satisfy all of my desires. The W215 is also differently designed than any other Mercedes. We have Herr Bruno Sacco to thank for the unique looks of the cars. And not a B-Pillar in sight. Phew, what lovely lines she has. The car is sensuous, bordering on the erotic. Then, the leather seats have a massage function. See, I told you the car is nearly erotic. 👍👍👍👍😎

2003 : I guess you havethe coupe version of the 4 doors of Lady Diana limousine …. Was a terrific coupe at that time a huge one 😅
@kiasax2 Жыл бұрын
@Kassiusday Yes, that's right. I have loved the car since it was the Formula 1 safety car in 2000 and 2001. And yes, my beast is BIG. So BIG that the Mercedes engineers had to design new hinges for the doors so that they didn't slam into the doors of other cars, but allowed the occupants easy ingress and egress. The greatest thing about the 2003 CL 55 AMG is that the engine boffins decided to supercharge it. After the "Kompressor" was integrated into the M113 the monster under the hood produced an unholy 493 bhp and 516 ft-lbs of torque. Even with all of the luxury and weight, it still gets from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. In my beast, I hit 62 mph in 4.4 seconds. After some discussions with mechanics who are experts in AMG cars, the thinking is that Mercedes fudged the numbers on the bhp and torque. It's a bit like running slow laps in the preliminaries, but just fast enough to qualify for the final race. Then, at the final race you explode from the blocks like your hair is on fire and blow your competitors off the track. Perhaps it's something like that. The other thing is that I won't change anything on my car. It is BONE STOCK. It is still the same car that left the factory. That's just the way I am regarding my "BABY." If you do a search on KZbin for CL 55 AMGs you'll see cars that have been modified. Some more modified than others. The last I heard there's a CL 55 AMG that puts out 1000 bhp. Wait. WHAT? Check it out, you might enjoy some of the madness that these "German Muscle Cars" can induce in their owners. 🤔🤔 It happens. The suspension systems are unique, and they're known for unreliability. However, if the system is well maintained, then there's usually no problem. Besides, it's still great fun for my wife and I to drive around our rural area. We live on a 60-acre farm and have a couple of mile-long driveways, with gates. Our preferred driveway isn't much more than a path through old growth trees that have canopied over the top. To drive out I put the car up as far as I can with the Active Body Control system. Then, upon reaching a blacktop, I push the button, and the car settles down to its lowest level. Often, a kid in a ________ , fill in the blank with Mustangs, Chargers, Camaros, Challengers, etc., will be at a stoplight and look over and see my wife and I, a couple in their 60s in an older, but fashionable car. Then, the throttle blipping begins. The 2 of us have to stifle our giggles, since we know how this always ends. When the light changes, suddenly the only thing the kids in the "fill in the blank" cars is the taillights of my CL 55 AMG. I might be older but I still have fast reflexes and my muscle memory from racing Formula Fords and sports cars is still very present in me. The concussions I'd gotten while serving in the military have given me a gift that keeps on giving, an intractable migraine. Crazy, right? So, I don't drive on bad days. The 2003 CL 55 AMG is an outstanding product. Luxury, technology, and POWER. They were truly wonders at that time. As my wife said, " I love this car! I can drive 150 mph and have the seat give me a massage while going that fast." Oh, and my wife got her 2009 CLK 550 two years before I found my dream car. They have the same M113 engines, but her's doesn't have a supercharger on her's. That makes a tremendous difference in the performance. Her CLK 550 was a black cabriolet with cream color leather interior. It was gorgeous and she loved putting that 5.4 liter engine to work. She loved it, until she drove my beast. Not too long after that she sold her car and bought the fastest Mini Cooper she could find. She's funny like that. 🤔 She's been like that since she was 15. She gets bored easily. Know what I mean? 👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎

I had a same year 500. Absolutely wonderful car. Would love to try that monster supercharged 55 (though the 500 had plenty of power itself!). I never realised the CL was the F1 safety car - I know the CLK was at some point but that is interesting - searching for some videos on KZbin now!
