@billny334 жыл бұрын
@@fromulus absolutely. The Brandon Jacobs 4th and 1 rush to keep it going. The Asante Samuel near-pick. The Tyree catch. There was an oddball play where Eli threw to Tyree and it went through his hands, then was nearly picked off by a Patriot defender but fell incomplete. Eli got tackled trying to run and appeared to fumble but he was already down. He found Steve Smith on 3rd and 11 on the sideline all leading up to the Plaxico TD after he beat Ellis Hobbs. Plaxico who's ankle and knee were badly injured still had that last double move in him. Even after that, Brady threw deep to Moss on 3rd and 4th down and we had to hold our breath both times. The first time the pass was on target but Cory Webster went stride for stride with Moss and broke up the pass with an outstretched fingertip. If Moss catches either one of those, New England can tie the game with a field goal and force OT. It is just amazing how many things went right for the Giants in those final 2 plus minutes for them to win.
@dp2333323 жыл бұрын
A lot of things came together perfectly for the NYG...They didnt really have a great run defense but the Pats didnt really have a great rb-the07Pats running game depended upon being able to exploit defenses that had to overcompensate to cover the Pats WRs...The NYG def line was stocked wth great passs rushers they could get to Brady and did so consistently without using a 5th guy, Moss was rarely if ever given enough time to get downfield and with the Pats running game having nothing to exploit they were able to continually switch and mask their coverages as well as mix how they did so in order keep Tom guessing until well after the snap...The Pats needed to adjust sooner to the fact that they werent getting enough time to find Moss deep and utilize him in their short passing game earlier than they ended up deciding to... The Patriots werent competing merely against the NYG...they were competing against history and the league in a way they never had to even while defending back2back SB championships because outside of NE the entire nation if not world was at that point more united than at any point in time during the entire Brady/Belichick era in its hatred of and its desire to defeat them as that season wore on...They were not the same team by the time they got thru December let alone to the SB-they no longer had S.Morris or R.Colvin, Stallworth had lost his job to Gaffney...Vrabel had been playing the best football of his career througout the majority of the reg season, had been in DPOY discussions, but his play declined significantly once he suffered a shoulder injury against the Steelers...Their starting LT Nick Kazcur had suffered some injuries since joining the league, gotten self addicted to illegal painkillers/etc and gotten himself busted a month or so before the SB...He was essentially playing that postseason in pain and while going thru opiate withdrawals...Brady spent the weeks leading up to S42 in a walking boot after suffering a high ankle sprain in the AFCCG, and altho he played thru it he also broke the navicular bone in his foot during SB42 as well. The 2007 Pats were as good as any team Ive ever seen...Brady has never played better...They just didnt have lady luck on their side.

Giants fan here. One of the thrills of my life. However I could definitely understand the pain for Pats fans even though they had won 3 rings by then. I thought of it like this. As a kid, I used to play Madden and later NFL Quarterback Club, NFL Blitz etc. How many of us as kids would play a full NFL season with our team and try to go undefeated and win the Super Bowl? And if you appear to be losing one game, what do you do? You reset the game. You hope it doesn't come to that, but if it gets too close, you likely will do that before the CPU saves your one loss. If you get to the Super Bowl undefeated and you lose a close game in the final seconds and for whatever reason, you can't hit reset fast enough and can't reverse it, think of all the time, effort and work you put into making this dream a reality all ruined. I'd be absolutely beside myself. Now raise the stakes. Make it your favorite team actually doing this in real life. You've watched every minute of every game in absolute awe of their greatness. It's Brady to Moss, the greatest QB ever to the greatest WR ever, breaking records left and right, with a killer defense. Several of their regular season victories (Colts, Ravens, Eagles, Giants) were quite inspiring and appeared to show they had the toughness to overcome anything. And have them lose the Super Bowl in the final minute. They had the Giants down to a 4th down and 1, down to several near INTs, a near 4th and long if Eli gets sacked on the Tyree play, a 3rd and 11, and a near Randy Moss deep ball that would have saved the day. It was all so tantalizingly close to happening. And there's NO RESET BUTTON. You have to just swallow that forever. Greatest team ever, for what? I'd lose my damn mind.

@LukeR.51174 жыл бұрын
I really do believe the pressure of a potential undefeated season weighed down on that team. They vanquished with relative ease some really good teams along the way. But everyone could see how much they struggled against many of their opponents in their last 9 games or so (postseason included), some of which were the lesser teams on their schedule. Just one loss would've eased the burden, in my view. I think there were even reports of this fact afterwards. Now, that's not to discredit, for example, the Giants. (They matched up well against the Patriots--and football is predominantly about how teams match up against each other.) It's just to acknowledge the reality that the mental makeup of the team was not as... robust as it could've been without the additional pressure of being in such unprecedented standing.
