2008 - 2011 Ford Focus, Replace PCV valve, Remove Intake Manifold

I have a 2008 Ford Focus. 2008 - 2011 Ford Focuses have the same Duratec 2.0L, 4-cylinder engine. I wanted to change the PCV valve, which means removing the intake manifold. Here, I give you some tips and tricks that I used to make this process easier.

Doing the same thing right now. Left the fuel rail and psteer tank in place. Just can't seem to pry out the pcv valve from the oil separator

thanks for posting this - i wondered if or how you could do this on these 2008-2011 north american version of the focus'. How has yours been in general , have you had to do much to it? -Any oil burning ? -Any issues with auto transmission etc?

My little focus was high miles, 2008, and was going through a lot of oil. It's a manual transmission. Eventually the engine died and I had a different engine put in :)

What was the car doing for you to change the valve? I'm asking because I have a lot of blow-by coming out of where the oil goes in the valve cover. I don't have a check engine light on. Also, I had #3 coil pack go out. When I replaced them the sparkplug chambers on each end of the engine had a lot of oil in them. None in the 2 middle cylinder chambers. Do you think it's the PCV valve causing the blow-by? Any help of any kind would be awesome. Thanks!

I got the same problem and we replace the valve but didn't work the manifold it's just look like expanded from heat and its getting stuck so started shaking now after replacing works better

@@toonse3683 See that's got to be what's going on with this car too. Because it's shaking (vibrating bad). I really appreciate the reply! It confirms (to me) that it's the valve. Now I'll go ahead and get it ordered. I think O'Reilly's said $29.99. I didn't want to take down the manifold and all if I wasn't sure. And I might as well change the valve cover gasket too. And again, thank you for the help! (The hurricane didn't ruin my day too bad after all lol)

I was using a lot of oil, and I was getting engine light on and kind of rough performance. I know had also put too much oil in car and a stuck pcv valve can suck up oil like a vacuum. My engine was high miles. Eventually I discovered my catalytic converter was plugged, which led to very bad engine performance. My changing PCV valve was an attempt to use process of elimination to get to the problem.

There are many things that can cause shaking. Do you have an engine light on in the dash where you can read a code?

In terms of oil in the spark plug chambers, a lot of times that is because the valve cover gaskets are worn, there are gaskets on the valve cover that surround the spark plug chambers, and if those gaskets go bad, which mine did, then you get a boatload of oil in those chambers. Solution is to take off valve cover and put on new gaskets, you can get them at any auto store and they come in a pack. The big gasket goes around the rim of the valve cover and the other couple of gaskets go around the spark plug chambers. Once you take off valve cover you'll see what I mean.

There's no need to pull power steering reservoir..it's unnecessary.
