I may be wrong but doesn’t that look like the exact size of either of the license plate lights? It just seems odd to me that they would have that big rectangular piece holding it in when other kits for reverse camera is just the camera and much smaller profile.

The camera mount is supposed to replace the left hand reversing number plate light.

you could have easily replaced it with the licence plate light. idoing or other sellers sell that and honestly it doesnt affect the camera either. at night it improves the quality actually

How is it holding up? I just installed mine. Already having issues… it doesn’t turn on, it did before I reinstalled all the panels, now I can’t figure out the issue. Everything seems plugged in and wired properly…

Should’ve just ran the wire up the right side A pillar and across the headliner to the back. Would saved taking a lot apart and would’ve gave you plenty of wire to the rear hatch.

I thought the camera would be replacing one of the rear license plate lights by the looks of it. Is that not the case?

I definitely could have gone that route, however I replaced my license plate lights with full Diode Dynamics replacements. I didn’t think the light supplied with the backup camera would have matched or been bright enough. Since I don’t plan to keep that particular camera long term, I mounted it separately.

Yeah that's definitely what that camera does replace your licenses plate light one of the I had it on my 2013 wrx I have a sadan his licenses plate lights look different than mine maybe it doesn't fit

What if you cut a rectangular cut-out to hide the chunky block on top of the camera so that it only shows the black part/camera... It'd be a huge hole but would look super discrete and clean imo. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for watching! And that’s definitely a good suggestion. I had actually thought about that or possibly separating the camera from the base and finding a mounting plate with a smaller footprint. Honestly, if the generic camera looks this good, a nice aftermarket like an Alpine or a Kenwood will probably blow me away. That’s probably the route I’ll go since those both have more discrete mounting plates!

You need to go in factory settings and change TVI to AHD ON. The password for that should be either 3368 or 1818

I mounted my camera under the wing of my hatch under the third brake light. Works well in that position. You had mentioned adding an on/off switch to activate the camera when not in reverse, I’m going to do this mod. I didn’t see a plug and play option for this, is there one? I was going to tap it in from a constant power source, I was thinking the clock display, and connect to the same “reverse in” lead on the back of the head unit.

Great thinking on the positioning of the camera! I definitely think I’m going to swap out the camera for a lo-pro option. The constant on option is really nice and it’s something I’ve had in my newer vehicles. I actually haven’t looked for a PNP option, but it would be easy enough to do with raw materials. I’m not sure what I would tap into, but the clock display is close enough to the head unit and seems just as good as any!

Go to settings, select “factory”, input password (mine is 3368), select “sing video format”, turn on “TVI”.

I understand that’s a license plate light, however I had purchased a set of the Diode License plate lights and the color doesn’t quite match (OCD). I’ll be replacing the camera with a more compact option. I only made a few holes in a piece of plastic that no one will ever see. It doesn’t bother me all that much now that it’s done, but if you don’t like drilling or cutting then the tag light option is the route to go.
