Thanks for sharing this explanatory video Nathan. Did you replace the cam belt tensioner (flange locking) nuts or you used the old ones ?? I think they are supposed to be replaced every 2nd belt change.

No I didn't replace them this was this bikes first time belt replacement you are correct they should be replaced at least on the second usage.

Kawai So you can put the bike in 1st gear and turn the rear tire and that will spin your engine. It's much easier with the tool it's cheap to purchase

Does service manual recommend to turn engine over than to re check belt tension again? To take out any slack in belt.That is the way i always do csr timing belts

I was told if you set your belt tension and turn the engine over you will get a different reading. When you install your belts initially tighten belts by hand and then turn your engine a couple times to remove any binding, and then set belt tension. This isn't rocket science set your belts and ride!

Hey, Brotheus! My bike has low mileage, about 2k, but belts are still from the factory. It was mostly sitting in the garage. Do I need valves adjustment aswell, or belt replacement will suffice? I mean, 2 years passed long ago, but the valves' adjustment mileage is still a long way from coming..

Since your bike was sitting the valves shouldn't need adjustment as there is no wear and tear. The belts are different story it depends on the environment I would replace belts every 3 years if you haven't hit the mileage.

Hi mate ! Is it an engine whine or is it a bearing whine ? (i think they're called bearing - french person right here) You see, the pulleys and tensioner pulleys are mounted on bearings and these need to be replaced sometimes. They're held by circlips in the back, just get the pulleys off their mounting stud. You'll just need circlip plyers, a hammer and a couple sockets to get the bearings out. If the whine doesn't come from the bearings, then i have no clue

Thought you might know how to help me since you look like you’ve got some knowledge! I have a 2008 1098s and while riding today after about an hour, it started cutting out really bad and finally died. It’ll start back up but doesn’t last long. I’d love some thoughts on it if you don’t mind. Let me know how you want to communicate and I can make that happen. Thank you in advance.

Make sure you can hear your full pump prime when you turn the key on. Also make sure you have a full tank of gas. If its intermediately running it sounds like a fuel issue.

I know and your right, I would not be able to do what you did in the vid... Respect. I have had my 848 for over 9 years and just think the 2 year rule for the belts is mad and overkill. people with the bike in the garage who have done zero miles end up changing the belts. Surely it must depend on humidity climate environment ect, belt tension or reliability would not change or the change would be negligible. the two year rule is a money-making exercise. the mileage rule makes sense
