Just installed UEL's off a 06 WRX onto my 2.5i (with OBX catback). I will make a better video once I get my CEL cleared

OP if you need to clear your code the best way is to get a tactrix 2.0 cable, and disable the P0420 DTC in the DTC section of you stock map. Will not affect emissions or ability to pass inspection.

Did you noticed any power loss with the uel header? compared to the stock elh?

Mason Patterson they are oem wrx headers I bought used for $50. Requires some custom work to make them connect to the stock exhaust once bolted to the motor.

@@BarelyLegacy_Legacy Nope, all ej headers are interchangeable 9except ej22 single ports). Only difference is turbo and NA take different routes, so the turbo header will need to be modified to clear the NA subframe.

How did u get wrx headers to fit the NA exhaust? Don't the UEL wrx headers point upwards/above subframe towards the turbo while the EL NA 2.5i headers stay below the subframe?

chop the headers where it turns up and weld a pipe in to connect to the rest of the exhaust.

I used oem wrx headers with some custom fabrication work. Any STI/WRX headers bolt to the 2.5i, just exhaust routing is different because turbo vs NA. You need a pipe made for the mid pipe to reach the headers, the headers have to have a couple inches taken out before the the flange to avoid the subframe, and 2nd o2 sensor needs to be relocated behind the 2nd cat to avoid cel's because the UEL's delete a cat.

dude im on the fence getting this car. not a LGT but a 2.5i and doing this too it. i cant afford a wrx and insurance and i lovde the uel header sound.

Go for it if you love the sound. There isnt much performance gains to be had from it, but to me when I had mine the sound was worth every dollar (and I got overcharged on labor compared to others). Would do it again if I had another NA.

I've been looking into doing this to my 08 Liberty wagon. I had a set of 06' WRX OEM UEL headers but the problem is that they are cast iron. So cutting and welding them is a pain in the butt. How did you go about this?

Great sounding subie! Do you find much drone from the exhaust on the highway? Thinking about doing the uel header swap for my 2.5.

This setup had no drone whatsoever. A nice sound when you got on it, but quiet when you coasted on the highway or around tonwn.

One Lap Kings Media that is the sound I'm going for because I find most are too raspy and drones so I want something nice and clear. I looked at muffler deletes but are way to loud for my personal taste.

Same. This setup still has a big muffler in it, a resonator and a cat in it so the rasp is kept to a minimum.

That sounds awesome! I have the same exhaust and was wondering if you would have pictures of how you modified the WRX headers to fit onto the mid pipe. I was planing on buying Rallisport racing headers, but they are so expensive compared to this alternative. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I got an 08 like yours but I just have one cat (the one built in the headers) wanna get an aftermarket wrx but the question is O2 sensors can be placed to the headers without a cat and get no CEL?

you have to relocate the 2nd o2 sensor behind the 2nd cat in the system. If you have no cats, you can have your tuner shut off the 2nd o2 (only there for emissions).

Mind sharing how you fit headers for a 2006 wrx for a 2.5i? I read the other comment but I wondering if you have written this up on a forum or if you knew of a write up already? any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've posted on NASIOC about it, but I can't seem to find the threads atm. Basically I had a couple inches of the header before the flange and after where the piping joins cut out so there enough room to get some piping between the crossmember and the headers and had the flanged welded back on (only need to do this if you want to keep the headers removable). Next I had the shop I went to fabricate some piping with flanges from the cat pipe to the headers. Lastly I had the 2nd o2 sensor relocated behind what would normally be the 2nd cat (now the only cat). It was a 5 hour job at the shop I went to.

They're stock wx headers. Any 2002-2014 wrx/sti headers will bolt to the engine, you just need someone to fab up a midpipe that will connect to them.

You don't get the rumble unless you have UEL headers. Our cars have equal length headers from the factory, and thats what makes them sound closer to a honda than a Subaru.

when I had the headers done, I had a custom tune done on the car, so hard to say what the gains of the headers alone are.

back in the day there was a super limited production run from a 3rd party tuning company of cobb accessports for 06-08 2.5i's. I just happened to find one 2nd hand (apparently less then 1000 were made) and had my tuner tune the car through the cobb software. Open source tuning is a much easier and accessible option for these cars these days

Yes you can, subaru ecu's are great for tuning. Open source is the way to go!

i got a 2005 sti uel. will this fit a 2011 n/a?

TEETEE BIRD It bolts on to the motor, but you need fabrication work done to connect it to the rest of the exhaust and clear to clear the subframe. No OEM UEL's are a direct bolt on, but almost any EJ series header will bolt up to almost any EJ series motor (only exception I know of to this is the single port headers on the older EJ22), the problem comes with the differences between the routing of the exhaust with a turbo vs NA car. Clearances are slightly different and routing is very different so this is where the fabrication comes in. Not a hard job to an experienced fabricator and lots of threads on forums for how to do this.
