I have a JGC 2007 3.7liter v6 with 156,000 and have never personally changed my tranny fluid a shop has. I’m thinking it’s time I do this myself. This is a very easy to follow video, great for the first timer!!!

We were at 122,000 miles...Jeep 2010 GC....lightly used...no hitch and no towing. Fluid was getting quite dark and the smell was off. I placed a new filter and gasket and my drain off and refill was 4 quarts (3.8 anyway) leaving me at roughly 40% new fluid. I can tell a very slight difference in sound and the shifts are a tad smoother. Very happy to have done this myself with ATF4 and GREAT to see my magnet and pan were relatively clean. It is all good. - Update - 300 miles later, I dropped the pan again - kept the filter and gasket this time but I did replace another 4 quarts. I would estimate we are at roughly 64% new fluid at this point. Shifts and smoothness are incrementally improved again. I will run this for roughly 5000 miles and perform one more pan drop. I am considering a new pan with a drain plug.

Hi. Very good video. Thank you for posting it. I could never understand why Jeep called for ATF+4 in a Mercedes transmission though.

I have 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 and my automatic transmission has a dipstick.how else would you check fluid levels replacing what you took out is all good but you still gotta check the levels . if I were you, I’d put a dipstick in there. Go to wrecking yard pick- a -part

I flushed the transmission with 'Trans Lube' to clean the gears 3 times over 6 months. Yeah It was neglected. It's running better now. we also replaced a lot of sensors and a solenoid inside the pan too. In summary, the fluid is still dark red. I plan on doing engine & transmission flushes till the fluids look cleaner. Its a 1996 Jeep. Any suggestions, the processes are getting costly.

I wish I had a drain plug...you should put it back in before dropping the pan though.

Great video. I just bought a 08 Loredo with 113,000 miles on it. Transmission shifts great but the pan has small amounts of fluid around it. Should I get a whole new pan, gasket and filter? Thanks!
@trialspro3 жыл бұрын
Most filter kits come with a new gasket. That should be all you need. Unless the pan is rusted through or damaged I don't think you need to replace it.

Yup tranny fluid and filter is about 4 liters

Proof the manufactures don’t want DIY’s to save $$ when they don’t provide you with a Fkn dipstick! Not just for servicing but how about for road trips? Really disappointing to see Jeep doesn’t think about this from the consumer perspective
@trialspro Жыл бұрын
Yeah the whole procedure is absolutely ridiculous. I did a follow up video using the dipstick and scan tool. Hopefully that will keep the DIY folks going. It's a shame manufacturers make these simple tasks so complicated

Man that looks like my fluid ! Did it help ?
@trialspro Жыл бұрын
Didn't really make a difference. Just did it for peace of mind and maintenance. I've always found this transmission to shift pretty soft compared to other automatics. It also needs a taller 5th gear. From what I hear they're reliable though so they've got that going for them
@billjames1127 Жыл бұрын
That was a lot of metal in the pan that's from the fluid not being right is the life of the transmission having the right amount unless you bought it new don't trust the person before you to have it right dipstick is only 30 compared to 3000 for a rebuild
@trialspro Жыл бұрын
I did a follow up to this video with a dipstick and the fluid was the correct level. I can't comment on how much material should be on the magnet and I don't know when it was last changed. I'm at 200,000 km now and no issues yet.

Did u face any issues with the transmission after changing the oil? I heard that transmission might go bust when changing the oil if the oil hasn't been changed for a while (150k miles +)
@ZacsAutosports3 жыл бұрын
@@nometalgearr no problems, your transmission won't blow up from new fluid.

@@nometalgearr *Hey I know it’s a year later but I heard to avoid doing “flushes” with the transmission oil which can disrupt the trans especially if it hasn’t been changed appropriately. And to instead slowly incorporate new oil via changes like this every so often. The immediate flush can dislodge already fragmented pieces of metal within the transmission from long term use without change. Best to gradually add new oil and cycle it through that way.*

How's the transmission holding up? Heard that it's not advised to change transmission oil if it's a high mileage 150k miles +. Any advise?
@trialspro3 жыл бұрын
No changes, it still drives the same. I've always had a bit of a flare up between 1st and 2nd. Not sure if that's a flaw or programmed in. Basically it slips a little before grabbing 2nd. Have spoken in a few forums and heard that's common and may actually be normal.
@nometalgearr Жыл бұрын
@@trialspro that's odd. I don't have that flare. It's normal. Sometimes when I'm slowing down and the car down shifts I get a small bag when it changes from 2nd to 1st especially if I press the gas again as its changing gears
