Just an fyi, I would have loosened that fill bolt before doing anything else.. Did that when I replaced my rear diff fluid on my F. Good video though

Great callout. 😊I always check the fill bolt first to make sure I can even complete the job in the event there is an issue with the bolt. I will add it to the description as it's always hard to remember everything when you are recording. Thanks for sharing.

@@btbuildthings I’m such a mediocre “mechanic” I have to have a bunch of failsafes in place lol. I’m digging the set-up too man, I don’t really want to do my pan drop on my back, but it may come to that!

We all have our mechanic issues but the important thing is we are enjoying what we are doing! Failsafes and all. 😄

Hey brother, btw dont use an impact to remove the bolts, they snap because theyre rusted shut and using the impact breaks the bolt in half

I never use an impact wrench, I always loosen the bolts by hand first.

Had the same issue with my bolts snapping I was able to get it out with a vise grips and replaced them with Stainless steel m6x1.0 20mm bolts. I would highly suggest everyone else do it as well.

Well we know for sure that these bolts should be replaced after some time. If it happened to both of us, then it's worth swapping out as you suggested for sure. 😀

Thanks a lot for the useful video! Planning on doing mine soon. Just one question. when the atf oil is warming up, do you keep going through the gears or just one time and let it idle? Thanks a lot in advance!

Thanks for the video. Very clear and helpful. Do you recall how many crush washers are needed for this job?

How's that filter working out? I'm debating on going with it or just sticking to OEM from Lexus.
@btbuildthings
@btbuildthings Жыл бұрын
The filter has been working fine. No issues considering when I went to the dealer the first time for transmission service they never even changed the filter. As far as sourcing parts, I typically use rockauto.com and they currently have 4 manufacturers that supply the filter. It is very highly likely that the OEM filter is coming from one if not more than one of those companies listed.

Hey bro I went to the Lexus dealer they said these use "lifetime fluid" and the trans is sealed so they don't ever service them. They said they don't service any Lexus transmissions. Pretty crazy
@btbuildthings
@btbuildthings Жыл бұрын
So when I first came across this "lifetime fluid" discussion I was like there is no way the fluid is lifetime. The first time I took it to my local Lexus dealer and they changed the fluid. The advisor said it should be changed around 100-120k miles if I remember correctly then something like every 30k after that. Not sure why all dealers are not on the same page but as far as I know, I want my car to keep running so I'm changing the fluid. Lol!

how does it drive after this, were you having issues with it before you decided to change
@btbuildthings
@btbuildthings Жыл бұрын
When I initially got the car, my assumption based on mileage was that it hadn't been done before. So first time I had the dealer do it and it did run much smoother. Since the initial change, this is the second one which I did myself and it gives me such confidence knowing the fluid, filter, and gasket were changed so that I can continue to enjoy this car. 165k and counting everything is running smooth as ever. 😁

@@btbuildthings yes I had 2010 and now a 2014. I am very weary on doing transmission fluid change had some terrible failure in past for fooling around down there. I like to hear feedback from owners to see if it starts to slip. your the third person who says it smooths it out I may be in minority but I like the hard immediate shifts of the F. do you loose the punchyness with the change. I like the stabby up shifts
@btbuildthings
@btbuildthings Жыл бұрын
You shouldn't be weary! 😄 Fluids break down over time and not to mention the metal shavings that are also inside. The job isn't that bad and I know I feel better knowing that this maintenance will prolong the life of my investment.

@@robstyles2675 Mine works fine but sounds a bit different at idle and low gears. 2013 IS-F, 42K miles. Getting this done soon.
