haha. Screaming always works. Now Im wondering whether its more effective to cup your hands together to direct the sound, or just clap? I have a friend who went to a sound lab and did a comparison between pompom shaking and clapping though. He said he created 10 more decibles by clapping.

I'm a huge penn state gfan but its going to be a tough season because our two biggest gamesa are on the road but im confident because both qbs are good and stephon green is a beast, and lets welcome rodriguez to michigan this year

oh yeah for sure. The pom poms look really sweet when the band plays rock n roll. or "we will rock you" is playing. no doubt that they hold a significant role in helping the student section be the best student section in the country.

our qb situation scares me some, but not as bad as our secondary situation scares me. we lost king from a mediocre secondary. I'm glad t. davis is moving back to corner, but mark rubin at safety scares me. d. lynn better be pushing for playing time asap.

2008 will be nuts, but there really isn't a change in the way they are doing tickets this year. the only thing that this new system ensures is that ticketmaster doesn't crash. since we have to preregister, psu will be able to accurately determine ticket allotment/class percentages. therefore you'll haave pretty much the same probability of getting tickets that you had last year. two years from now when the put in the id card/loyalty point system things will really improve

One of my friends said last year that Beaver Stadium is a church to Penn State football fans, and they go there to pray during Saturdays in the fall. There's no better way to explain it.

Mvillani- Thats a big if, two tough away games. Plus we also have to beat Michigan and not slip up anywhere else, to be honest, 10-2 or 9-3 regular season is all I'm hoping for.

Michigan has only really wiped Penn State in Beaver Stadium twice. In 1993, you needed a goal line stand to preserve a win. In 1999 you won a come-from behind game where you were getting wiped for awhile. In 2006, the high powered Michigan offense and brutal defense barely escaped Penn State with a 17-10 win. This year, you don't have Hart, Henne, Manningham, Woodley, Branch, or Biggs. And we DO have most of our starters returning. Penn State wins by THREE, yes THREE, touchdowns.

well i take some of what i said back. psu isn't going to have incoming freshman pre register and is going to base that class' figure on the university park enrollment number for freshman. that means that most likely, the percentage of ticket alloted to freshman (total from all campuses) will be less than i originally thought. so i guess that means upper classmen have a slightly higher chance of getting tickets because more should be allotted to them

9-3 only if we slip up against Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Oregon State. But I think we squeak past Oregon State 35-34, pull off a miracle against Ohio State to win 31-27 at the last minute, and beat Wisconsin 23-21. I think Illinois will give us some trouble, but we hang on to win 35-29. I don't think we have to worry about Michigan. They'll be in disarray and in Beaver Stadium and will likely finish 8-4. We'll blow them out in 2008 with a score something like 45-0.

Which one of Penn State's rivals are you a fan of? If you're a fan of Pitt, Michigan, or Ohio State, there's no doubt you'd love to see the team you love to hate do poorly. Thing is, Penn State is not going to go 3-9 or 4-8. The loss of Sean Lee will hurt, but we won't do any worse than 9-3 and we'll finish no lower than #17 in the polls at the end of the year.

I actually agree with you that Penn State will probably end up in the Capital One Bowl, but I think they lose to different teams. Illinois, Wisconsin, and Oregon State. I disagree about one thing, though, I don't see Michigan winning the Big 10. RichRod will be using Lloyd Carr's players, so the adjustment will be rough for 2 years, but I also don't see a total implosion like what happened with Notre Dame and Minnesota. Michigan still is Michigan, and I predict 8-4 and the Outback or Alamo.

I agree, another 8-4 year for Michigan, and they will lose something like 45-25 in Happy Valley (with the score 31-0 at halftime). I want to see Michigan get blown out like that after 9 years of beating us. I think we beat Ohio State with a 31-27 come from behind win and Iowa in Kinnick Stadium for the first time in years. But I see us losing to Wisconsin, Illinois, and Oregon State, unfortunately. But I'd be happy with a 10-3 year, winning the Capital One Bowl, and finishing about #16 or #17.

I see us upsetting Ohio State, Illinois possibly, but I'm not so sure. Wisconsin has been rough on us in Camp Randall, so I'm not sure about that one, but we will score more than 3 points. I see us tripping up against an inferior team like Iowa. Can't wait to see how this season goes. I bet we start off with a meaningless 77-0 win over Coastal Carolina. Oregon State will be a test, but Syracuse and Temple shouldn't be that much of a threat.

Well by bouncing every play, I don't mean play zombie nation every play. Instead, just 'popcorn' like students do at basketball games. I've heard from opposing players personally that seeing the crowd jump up and down is incredibly intiminating.

38-24 isn't exactly a blowout, and Penn State WAS keeping pace with USC, but fumbles and penalties did them in. USC was the better team that day, but you didn't exactly manhandle us.

Drowing out a team with a color has a tendancy to backfire when playing Alabama. just ask Georgia. (I still hope they do it anyways, I've always wanted to see Happy Valley decked in white)

i completely disagree. Sure pom poms are sweet in pregame and in between plays, but making noise would be MUCH more effective in distracting the other team. Do you really think the players are looking up in the stands as the play is about to start? No. half of the time the vistors are driving the other way anyway. Making noise is really the only proven means by which to distract opponents. Why are lsu, vt, florida all considered tough places to play? Because they are loud as hell.

Penn State will enter Wisconsin undefeated. With Iowa being the only team that isnt a nationally recognized powerhouse in a really really tough 4 game stretch. Everything Ive read on Michigan has declared a down year for the wolverines, but I dont think that can be taken for granted. However they will enter the loudest stadium in the country with an untested quarterback, and if we can rattle Troy Smith, we can scare the shit out of whoever Michigan shows up with. Beat Michigan!!!

It definitely is not as loud as beaver stadium. there is just no arguing this. Ask any expert or any rational fan who's been to both (like myself). and the greatest team in college football?? I'm guessing you mean historically because you might have a case there, but currently? absolutely not.
