What's up y'all! This video will be a bit different than what I normally put on my channel, but I hope you enjoy it!
If I'm not working in the electronics lab, there's a good chance I'm working on my partner's 2008 Toyota Sienna with ~240k miles. I've put alot of work into this car myself; brakes/rotors, wheel bearing/hub, spark plugs, ignition coils, starter, battery, belt & pulleys, valve cover gaskets, VVTI line, hoses, radiator, water pump, thermostat...
In addition to working on electronics, I really enjoy working on cars as well! But there's still a few more things to do on this van, including the power steering system. The rack & pinion has a torn boot on the passenger side that has been that way for years. It wasn't causing any symptoms, but recently the steering pump started making a loud, water hammering type sound only when the steering wheel all the way to the he left or right. So I decided it was time to replace the pump and rack. In this video I replace the pump, fluid reservoir, and a section of the return hose.
But of course the 1st time I decide to record one of my car repairs, I make the biggest mistake I've ever made working on this car. It was pretty devastating. I was embarrassed and almost didn't finish the video. But I decided it would be a good cautionary tale to share with the DIY community if you decide to do this repair yourself. Don't make the same mistake I did!
