Excellent video, thank you! It’s been over 20 years since I’ve done drum brakes. Your video was super clear and easy to follow!

Thanks for this in depth video, you explained everything perfectly. The dealership wanted almost $700.00 Canadian $ to do the back 2 drums and shoes. You've saved me a bundle. Thanks !!

What an awesome freakin vid! It took me like 12 hours last time I did it from a crap video from some dude in India. This will make it a lot faster

There are 2 threaded holes on the drums and on rotors too. No need to hammer them off simply screw a bolt in the hole and they pop loose
@richierock1300 Жыл бұрын
Yes I keep forgetting about them so used to the drums being rusted onto hub you still need to break them loose then you have the rust ridge on the back side of the drum that gets hung up on the shoes when trying to get them off and just using the bolts in the threaded holes on the drum just don’t cut it most of the time

@@richierock1300 I agree 100% but there is a rubber access plug in backing plate to release the adjuster. In fact it's easier to adjust the brakes with drum on and spin drum to feel a slight resistance as it spins. Also like to adjust the parking brake when I do the rear brakes too. Great video. I know how to do them but video is a great refresher. Sometimes you can pick up little tricks like how you centered the shoes through the hub bolt holes. Slick trick for sure. Thanks again.

Yeah, but I can never remember the size/thread to go get the bolts from Home Depot. M8, maybe? It think that's what it was on my Corolla but I lucked out and had the bolts on hand already.

You can put a bolt in the face of the drums and tighten that until it pulls the drum forward off the shoes . Saying that hammer works well also.

Use a sharpie and mark the horizontal clips that are attached to the wheel adjustment... one side is shorter than the other... just mark what side should be facing u

Thanks for the clear explaining of the small details, like where the adjuster ends fit. A bonus that you happened to be working on the same side of the car I was today. Other side should be a cinch (I hope). A tip I got from my son is to use a bar clamp to keep the shoes together from moving around and being difficult. Really helps!

@@richierock1300Hi Rich, after my drum shoe change, I went to adjust the E-brake with a screwdriver. When I was rotating that star gear looking piece, it make any clicking sounds it just rotated. Any clue why this would be?

I have a question bro I just did my read my drum breaks on my 2006 Prius looks exactly like this one an it seems I did it right by your video but on the passenger side when I was manually testing my breaks by spinning the wheel to see if it would spin still it kept spinning on one side any idea why ?
@richierock13002 жыл бұрын
Did you adjust the self adjusters up snug when drums is on basically u can pull off the drum and then tighten a little bit more and the drum is hard to pull off but still spins
