2009 2.5L Nissan Altima NO CRANK NO START

I have a 2009 Nissan Altima No Crank No start problem. It is intermittently getting worse (increasing no crank attempts). It sounded almost nothing like a starter, but I threw a new one on it anyway. The problem still exists. There is no check engine light. When trying to crank, it makes this weird sound that does NOT sound like a bad starter solenoid. You will hear me in the background count down 3, 2, 1 and then try to start. I do this twice. Any ideas would be great!

Guys, today is 18.2.13. I Thank each and everyone of you guys for your suggestions as I was having a bad day stuck with this issue. I thought it was my starter with the 'no cranck' issue as it previously happened to me with a 2001 Jaguar S-type. So I went and hit the starter to make it 'loose' and did not worked with the 2009 Altima. I read you'alls comments looking for clues. I stepped on the brakes hard and did not work (or did it?) then I noticed my steering wheel was not aligned. I put this joke of a car in neutral, fixed the steering wheel's alignment, gave it a go, and Voilá! THANK YOU MICHAEL SCHWARTZ, THANK YOU 'THELIVINGDEADONE'! Mercí a toi!

Its the brake switch. Pop it out and cleab it or you may have to replace it. I had the exact problem

Okay people I just had this exact problem. Turned out to be the ECU fuse. ECU Fuse! I changed the Brake Light Switch, The Battery, The Key Fob Battery, and beat on the Steering Wheel Lock Mechanism. Then I had her towed to Nissan. They Blessed me. ECU/ECM was not communicating...ECM/ECU Fuse was blown. They only charged me for diagnostic and the fuse. $93.

I had a crank, but no start issue today. I went into WTF mode. Tried like 5 times, it cranked and nothing. But I heard it cough. So I did an unconventional, give it gas at the gas pedal move, which you don't do these days, and it coughed, sped up and started. It sounded like the "Choke" was stuck, (like in the old day carb) but I don't know what to think. Needless to say, that's why instead on me enjoying my Saturday evening, I'm researching this crap. So far, I've found the "Steering lock" issue fix, and a "Brake pedal switch" issue fix. At least I now know what to look out for while I look for a new car before I have these issues.

It's all electronic now. Even if you pushed the gas pedal, it sould not matter as the car is going to do what it can to get it started on its own. There is no direct mechanical linkage from the gas pedal to the throttle. If it's choking, aounds like clogged injectors or weak fuel pump. The gas pedal has a position sensor but it does not matter if it is 12% pressed or 93% pressed, if the computer is ignoring the position sensor anyway.

Add me to the people who had a bad brake switch. It was as easy as looking for brake lights behind the vehicle and disconnecting the switch and jumping it to prove. We had already replaced the starter and were stumped when it kept failing intermittently like a bad starter does. Thanks for all the comments that set us on the right path.

Here's the insanity "FIX" after blowing $100's at the dealership ($400 for parts/labor). The faulty part was the brake switch and harness leading up to it was replaced. This makes a LITTLE sense. As I was getting a little frustrated toward the end, the car would actually start when I slammed on the brake pedal a little aggressively. The crappy part is that if the switch was faulty, I SHOULD NOT HAVE EVEN GOTTEN A NOISE!! The circuit should be either open or closed, not this in-between BS where you get this funky noise. Furthermore, the "push brake stupid" light should have stayed illuminated on the dashboard instrument panel. Regardless, I hope this helps someone else in their "fix" before their wallet gets RAPED by Nissan service. We have not had a problem with this particular issue. Premature corrosion (rust) is starting to appear in spots everywhere on the car AND we had to utilize Nissan's transmission warranty extension because the CVT concept is a pure pile of crap! Engineers have spent DECADES trying to reduce friction. I don't care how much lubricant you think you have, why did anyone think even for a second that this concept is a bright idea?? I understand the "continuously variable" part and the slight possibility of saving an ounce of gasoline, but using a friction concept application to smash cylindrical cones together in order to create "gear" ratios was just dumb! Of course, what do I know.. I still think a brake switch is a simple on and off switch! :(

+Michael Schwartz Renault's transmissions have always been bad cvt or no cvt. Even the 4 and 5 speeds in 2004-2006 Renault-Nissan Maxima were junk.

Michael Schwartz Hey Boss Man I have a question was your brake lights still working because Im have the same issue and I saw this was an issue with Nissan but I was told if my brake light comes on it couldnt be this switch.. I personally dont know what to believe anymore I've wasted so much money trying to get this fixed the stupid way by mobile mechanics that eventually tell me that they don't know what it is it's a ghost issue and still charge me and now I'm out of money and don't know what the hell this could be.. but I do know my starter alternator brand new battery and not the issue if you can help you would be God sent please let me know if you have time. I was driving today and my car puttered then stopped about 5 seconds down the street my car died out on me. I was able to coast to a parking lot but now it’s doing the exact same thing in video. I changed brake switch. Still nothing. Note about 5-6 days ago I changed the spark plugs. Don’t kno if that has anything to do. But I am so puzzled

Mine was the connectors on the harness at the brake switch bent the tabs a little bit and started up

Michael Schwartz she probably means the fan will blow and her dash lights are on so she's thinking the ac light on with fan blowing means the ac is working.

BLOWN ECU FUSE! Swap it with the 10A horn fuse if you’re in a pinch
