Thanks for the video i was trying to help a coworker out he needed a push button start replacement i thought it was odd that i could start the vehicle with the push start button removed simply push your finger in the hole 😂 hold down till it starts the i dont know where the original button is but obviously i had a key fob with me

Appreciate the video, have had to start the Jeep past two weeks with the FOB inserted. Are you saying that replacaing the start button fixed this issue on its own? (Batteries on the fob are freshly installed as well) Thank you for the video and information on the item purchased.

Hello Ifti and thank you for the comment. If the 'Push to Start' button is the root cause then, yes, replacing it will correct the problem. If the FOB is the suspect, I think that you would get some kind of 'FOB not detected' message on the dash when you push the 'Start Button.' If when you push the button, you get a 'Failed to Start' message or something like that, I would pop the button out (if you can) and use the FOB key (in my case I could on the Jeep Grand Cherokee) to start the car. If that works, then the button is more than likely the problem. Cheers!

can a new button take care of "damaged Key " message on the display? I can drive it with the fob inserted, but I really like the push button start.

I am not 100% sure. The damaged key message more than likely is about the key and not the button. The button itself is mechanically quite simple. The FOB and the car kind of have a "handshake" process. The car has a signal to the FOB and the FOB has a signal (which has special information in that signal) to the car which, when it matches the car data, allows the car to be unlocked and started via the FOB. It sounds like the FOB is damaged in some way. Even though you don't have the message, I would try a fresh battery in the FOB and see if that "fixes" the issue. Otherwise you will more than likely need to replace the FOB. Thank you for watching the video and good luck! -Dutch

I replaced a push start button for a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, and it was working fine. However, in the morning, it wouldn't start. I tried disconnecting the battery, but it didn't help. Also, the push start button remains in the "run" position and won't go back to "off."

Hello and thank you for watching the video. I don't know in the newer Cherokees if the button is similar. I suspect that they aren't. Did the button stick or did the mounting bracket inside fail and cause the button to get pinched? Probably with it staying in the run position, the circuit isn't able to "reset." In other words the computer probably has to see the button not pushed prior to applying the brake to start. I would start by going back into the replace steps and get back in to the back side of the button to see if something else has failed e.g. wiring connection, button bracket or the button itself has failed (which can be possible). Hello and thank you for the question! No. The pushbutton itself is a basic electro-mechanical switch that doesn't have anything to do with FOB programming activities. I didn't do any programming. Just installed and have been using ever since!

no. the button is defective. ACE, Ford FMT master level 2 tech. Just FYI. Ran into this same issue on a 2011 Jeep G/Cherokee.

Hello Josette! No there wasn't a message like that. The FOB was completely okay, the problem was the physical push button. This is an item that I imagine will eventually fail in every "push-to-start" vehicle because of "wear and tear." It is used tens of thousands of times over the lifetime of the vehicle.

I've got the same massage (damaged key) but I think the problem is like what he said because I removed the start button and I tried to turn it with my finger and it start probably. I have ordered the part and I will post an update later.
