I replaced this on my GM 3.6 LLT. I was just driving one day, and suddenly my car went into limp mode, MIL flashing, and it was literally smoking like a freight train out of the tail pipe, and this was on a Friday after work in rush hour traffic on the interstate! I did the diag, and had to place HPFP. Pretty sweet job, so I decided to change the injectors while I was in there (this is a 2010 Lacroose btw) and getting fuel rail out took a lot of swearing! Btw, it says you are suppose to change those fuel lines since they crush in place, I changed all of mine just not to take any chances. I know you know that I was just saying for others who may not know.

@@automotiveinsight No, I am not a tech. i really love working my on own cars (well I have family that work on cars so I have always known a little something about cars) and Iearning really good youtubers like yourself. I just recently started learning how to use the picoscope and the first thing I did was back probe injectors and I had a blast doing it. I am a biochemist by trade, so I love the science aspcet of automotive. I have som automitve content on this channel, but I started a second channel just for my car vidoes. Herre is the vidoe I made scoping GDI injectors on my GM 3.6 (LLT) let me know what you think, I'd love to know your feedback! kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4achaaHnM2HqaM&ab_channel=OneandDoneDIY

Fantastic work! Great explanation of the theory and use of picoscope to demonstrate. You could easily be a master tech at any shop with your understanding and capability of learning what you have already on your own if the biochemist thing doesn't work out! That is advanced level diagnostics in our field and what separates parts changers from actual technicians. Keep it up. I've subscribed and will be watching from now on. I'm kind of lucky that Toyota has a ton of known good waveforms both in the repair manual and in the picoscope software they provide us. BTW, a good YT channel from a fellow Toyota tech is called voltage drop diagnostics. His name is P.J. and he's pretty sharp with pico too. I've picked up quite a few tricks from him.

@@automotiveinsight Thanks for the feedback! If I could go back in time yes I love to be a GM master tech! I have considered getting into diagnosis part-time once I learn more, and practice more. Great video . I have had several of these failures lately. 10 equinox (2.4l) , 12 Acadia ( 3.6l) and 15 Silverado (5.3l). All pumps failed AND had gas in oil. Definitely do oil change after this repair. Also had to replace ECM on equinox too( pump ran at full pressure 2400) when Ecu only commanded 600

It seemed that it was pushed past the notches it slides though and don't want to try starting it until I can find out if that's normal. Any help is appreciated

Thank you. The car would only rev up to about 1500-2000 rpm or so and was running poorly on top of that. It also had a “poor engine performance” message on display. I think you could probably do a loaner tool fuel pressure kit and test the low pressure side at the test port to eliminate that as a cause. I don’t recall the low pressure specs but I think it’s was like 50-100 psi or so.

Thank you. You need to compare desired pressure to actual pressure. Ours only desired 580 psi at idle. If yours does the same and has 1800, you’ve got some kind of regulator problem.

Your assumption that disconnecting the wires on the pump will bleed off pressure is severely incorrect. Those wires are the control wires for the pressure solenoid. Disconnecting them causes the pump to run at MAXIMUM PRESSURE.

I have a question. so long story short my check engine light came on, my cars engine power reduced. I was diagnosed by a mechanic that I needed to change the fuel rail pressure sensor. I changed that and my spark plugs. After I changed that I am still having the issue but also received codes for misfire. I received codes of P228C, P0089, P0151, P0157, P0300 and then I had a German mechanic/roadside assistance company look at it and they said that one side of my engine isn't getting fuel but he doesnt know why because hes not too familiar with my engine. So I'm not sure if changing the fuel pump is something I need to do. So before ordering the part I'm curious do you think this should be my next move? or maybe there is another issue? Thanks in advance!
@murknseasonn907
@murknseasonn907 Жыл бұрын
also he checked the front spark plugs but didn't have time to check the back ones and said it could possibly be wiring or the back ones...if that makes sense but i dont see it being the spark plugs because I did it exactly by the book/videos and none of them looked faulty.
@automotiveinsight
@automotiveinsight Жыл бұрын
It’s possible, but I doubt it. When I see one side dead, I’m usually thinking more like a clogged catalytic converter or a valve timing issue (which are both fairly common). I would also look at the high side fuel pressure, I suppose a stuck open injector may bleed off too much fuel on that bank. At the end of the day, unless you want to fire the parts cannon at it, you should probably have it diagnosed by someone familiar with these engines.

Rotate the motor by hand to do what?
@phishhaley
@phishhaley Жыл бұрын
@@automotiveinsight It allows that piece to sit further back into the motor. From what I was told by multiple mechanics that had to be done in order to not mess up the high pressure fuel pump. Maybe they were wrong 🤷🏽‍♂️
@automotiveinsight
@automotiveinsight Жыл бұрын
@@phishhaley the only thing I could think of is that if the fuel cam lobe was at the highest spot, then maybe putting the pump on would be difficult. I still wouldn’t think that it should be a problem as long as you slowly tighten each side, alternating from bolt to bolt. But I’ve only done 3 of these and I’ve never had any issues like that nor have I had to rotate the engine.

I have a 2009 Buick and I have it making a terrible whining noise when it tries to get up and go. It's shaking and telling me that all my spark plugs are firing. I just got done changing the high pressure fuel pump and it wasn't it. Have any idea what it could be? I don't have a tester to test it. It's not running good at all. It gets up to like 20mph and it's just loud and sounds like it's going to blow up.

If you don’t let the air out it would just take longer to start. If you don’t bleed the fuel pressure off you risk being injured by high pressure fuel spray when you loosen the nut.
